EDINBORO, Pa. – From second in District 10 to second in the state.

Fort LeBoeuf scored a goal in the fourth minute of the D10 Class 2A title game against GM, which proved to be the only goal they needed in a 1-0 victory over the Lancers.

But boy, oh boy did GM respond in the PIAA playoffs.

Not only did the Lancers make a run to the state final, but they did so in dominating fashion, opening with a 5-1 win over WPIAL champion Avonworth, followed by a 3-0 win in the quarterfinals over District 9 champion Clearfield and finally a 3-0 win over WPIAL runner-up Mt. Pleasant in the semifinals.

Brooklyn Respecki and Sydney Rotko scored two goals each in the first round win over Avonworth. It was a game in which GM had little trouble, leading 4-1 at halftime.

In the 3-0 win over Clearfield, all three GM goals came off corner kicks, with Abby Walker and Kelsey Berger scoring in the first half to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, it was Walker again, putting the finishing touches on her night to make it 3-0.

Defensively, General McLane held Clearfield’s offense to only three shots on goal the entire night.

Behind two goals from Brooklyn Respecki, the Lancers beat WPIAL runner-up Mt. Pleasant, 3-0 in the PIAA semifinals to advance to the state finals for the first time in program history.

Respecki scored just over three minutes into the game to get GM on the board, a score that held until halftime. Ten minutes into the second half, Sam Johnson scored off a corner kick to make it 2-0. Respecki put the finishing touches on the historic win for GM with her second goal of the game with 11 minutes left.

And while they ultimately came up short in a 4-1 loss in the title game to Central Columbia, it was nevertheless a run to remember.
