Grove, Hanson, Fulmer Headline 2024 YDL Sports Network Boys’ D10 Hoops Awards Powered by TapNPay+

WARREN, Pa. – A skilled 6-6 forward who led McDowell to a District 10 Class 6A title, a PIAA playoff win and nearly more, McDowell’s Tyler Grove is the YDL Sports Network District 10 boys’ basketball Player of the Year powered by Tapnpay+. 

Joining Grove as major award winners are Eisenhower’s Austin Hanson (Rookie of the Year) and Franklin’s Jason Fulmer (Coach of the Year). A first, second and third team all District-10 teams were also named.

Joining Grove on the first team are Franklin’s Damon Curry and Jalen Wood, Girard’s Nate Edwards, Warren’s Brady Berdine and Farrell’s Danny Odem.

The second team consists of Cambridge Springs’ Parker Schmidt, Hanson, Franklin’s Cole Buckley, Meadville’s Jack Burchard, Hickory’s Rylan Dye, Grove City’s Brett Loughry and Slippery Rock’s Josh Book.

                                      

The third team is Cathedral Prep’s Nando Mirarchi, Girard’s Kenny Godoy, Erie First Christian’s Avery Collins, Meadville’s Lucas Luteran, Mercer’s Dae Mattocks, Sharon’s Derek Douglas, and Warren’s Tommy Nyquist.

2024 YDL SPORTS NETWORK BOYS’ DISTRICT 10 BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR POWERED BY TAPNPAY+

Tyler Grove, Sr., McDowellGrove averaged 22.6 points per game for the Trojans (611 for the season) and scored 30 or more points five times and 20 or more points 17 points. In the process, he surpassed the 1,000-point milestone. 

                          

The Trojans beat Baldwin in the first round of the PIAA Class 6A playoffs and took defending state champion Reading to overtime in the second round before falling 54-47.

2024YDL SPORTS NETWORK BOYS’ BASKETBALL DISTRICT 10 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR POWERED BY TAPNPAY+

Austin Hanson, Fr., Eisenhower – Hanson established himself as one of the top point guards in District 10 as a freshman, scoring 15.8 ppg to go along with 6.8 rpg, 4.2 spg and 3.5 apg.

The Knights finished third in District 10 Class 2A  and beat Northern Cambria in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A tournament, their first state playoff win in program history.

2024 YDL BOYS’ BASKETBALL DISTRICT 10 CHUCK DALY COACH OF THE YEAR AS PRESENTED BY THE CHUCK DALY FOUNDATION POWERED BY TAPNPAY+

Jason Fulmer, Franklin – Against a difficult schedule, Fulmer guided the Knights to a 24-6 record. After losing to Girard in the D10 Class 3A title game, the Knights rattled off four-straight wins, including over Girard in the semifinals to reach the state title game.

The Knights nearly struck gold, but fell 60-56 to Devon Prep in the state title game. Fulmer’s Knights also extended their region title streak with another this season.

About Chuck Daly: Daly was a 1948 graduate of Kane High School who started his coaching career at Punxsutawney High School (1956-63, 111 wins, D9 title in 1958 and league titles in 1958, 1962, and 1963) before moving into the college and pro ranks where he won two NBA titles with the Detroit Pistons. Daly also coached the 1992 United States Olympic “Dream Team” to a gold medal finish. He was inducted into the James Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame in 1994. In addition to coaching the Pistons for nine years going 467-271, he spent a little under a season coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1981-82 and coached the New Jersey Nets and the Orlando Magic in the 1990s. He was also the head coach at Boston College and Penn in the college ranks. The NBA continues to honor his coaching legacy with the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award given annually to a longtime NBA coach’s life in basketball and his “standard of integrity, competitive excellence and tireless promotion” of the game.

About the Chuck Daly Foundation: The Chuck Daly Foundation was formed in Punxsutawney in 2016 by 1960 PAHS graduate George “Butch” White, who played basketball under Daly. The foundation was formed primarily to create scholarships for both male and female student-athletes in both basketball and golf.
