Lucky 13: Fields Repeats as 2A Girls Basketball Player of the Year; 13 D9/10 Players Earn All-State Honors

For the second consecutive season, Kennedy Catholic’s Layke Fields is the Pennsylvania Sports Writers’ Class 2A Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Fields led Kennedy Catholic to its second consecutive state championship, scoring 29 points in a 42-40 win over Marion Center in the state title game, including the game-winning bucket with 5.1 seconds left.

Averaging a season double-double of 20.6 points and 12.0 rebounds per game, Fields added 2.9 blocks, 2.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 68.9% (250 of 363) from the field.

She recorded 23 double-doubles in 29 games including a double-double in all five PIAA playoff game. She averaged 26.6 points and 14 rebounds per game in the PIAA postseason.

Fields, the YDL Sports Network’s District 10 Player of the Year powered by TapNPay+, will enter her senior season with 1,503 career points and 896 career rebounds.

                                      

Fields was one of 13 players from District 10 and 9 to earn all-state honors, joining, among others teammates Bella Magestro (second team in Class 2A) and Monique Vincent (third team Class 3A).

Class 5A state runner-up Cathedral Prep also had three players selected, as Jayden McBride and Addie Biel were first-team selections and Lena Walz was second team.

In Class 4A, St. Marys’ Jayssa Snelick, who led the Lady Dutch to a D9 title and a first-round PIAA win, was a second-team selection. Snelick was the YDL Sports Network’s District 9 Player of the Year powered by TapNPay+.

In Class 3A, Olivia Kulyk of PIAA semifinalist Mercyhurst Prep as well as Northwestern’s Makayla Presser-Palmer were second-team selections. Wilmington’s Lia Krarup was honored as a third-team choice in Class 3A.

In addition to the Kennedy Catholic players in Class 2A, Redbank Valley’s Mylee Harmon was second team and West Middlesex’s Caitlin Stephens third team.

                          

In Class 1A, North Clarion’s Lily Homan was a second-team choice.
