SMETHPORT – Smethport’s Elizabeth Hungiville reached the 1,000-point milestone in Smethport’s 58-38 loss to Kane on Tuesday.

Hungivlle needed two points for 1,000 and got it with a jumper at the 4:48 mark of the first quarter.

“It means a lot,” Hungiville said. “It’s been a goal to achieve that since freshman year and to be able to achieve it is pretty nice.”

Hungiville needed just two points coming in, and got to reach the feat in front of the hometown fans in Smethport.
In doing so, she became the first Smethport player to reach 1,000 points since Abbey Woodard achieved the feat in 2018.
“Liz has been a special player ever since her freshman year,” said Smethport coach Chad Goodman. “You know, there probably isn’t another player in District 9 that puts the time and effort into the game that Liz does on and off the floor. She’s always in the weight room. She’s definitely worked hard for this achievement.”
As for the game itself Kane (10-11) got 26 points from Maya Smith and built a 27-11 advantage en route to the win.
Smethport got as close as 12, 43-31, with 6:49 to go in the fourth quarter, but Kane responded with a 6-0 run of its own.
Leah Tigani added nine points for Kane
Hungiville paced Smethport (4-18) with 15 points, while Jaidyn Goodman added seven.
“I think I’ve developed leadership skills through basketball over the last four years and helping other people step up,” Hungiville said. “I’ll remember all the good memories.”
