Punxsy Uses Big Third Quarter to beat Homer-Center Girls; Kennedy Catholic Falls to W. Va. Powerhouse; Clearfield Rolls

HOMER CITY, Pa. – Outscoring Homer-Center 21-11 in the third quarter, Punxsutawney cruised to a 52-42 win on the road.

The Lady Chucks led 27-20 at halftime and expanded the lead to 48-31 going to the fourth quarter.

Emily McMahan led Punxsutawney (18-3) with 14 points while Danielle Griebel added 11 points, three assists, and three rebounds. Avary Powell chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds, five steals, and three assists.

Alaina Fabin had a game-high 26 points for Homer-Center.

                                      

WHEELING PARK (W. Va.) 67, KENNEDY CATHOLIC 54

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Lala Woods and Lex Bordas combined for 40 points to lift West Virginia Class 4A powerhouse Wheeling Park to a 67-54 win over Kennedy Catholic.

The loss was just the fourth this season for Kennedy Catholic (16-4), with three of the four now coming to some of the top teams in West Virginia (Morgantown and University being the other two).

Wheeling Park (18-4) led 28-25 at halftime and outscored Kennedy 20-16 in the third quarter and 19-13 in the fourth.

Woods scored 15 points in the second half and Bordas 13. Natalie Daugherty also had 16 points in the win for Wheeling Park.

                          

Layke Fields had 23 points and 11 rebounds for Kennedy Catholic, one of three Golden Eagles in double figures. Monique Vincent finished with 17 points (five 3-pointers) and Bella Magestro added 10.

CLEARFIELD 73, CURWENSVILLE 27

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Mia Helsel and Sonny Diehl combined for 42 points to lead visiting Clearfield to a 73-27 win over Curwensville.

Helsel led the Lady Bison (14-8) with 24 points with the freshman Diehl adding 18 tallies.

Cayleigh Walker also scored nine points for Clearfield, and Hannah Glunt and Alayna Winters both chipped in seven tallies.

Briah Peoples had 12 points for Curwensville (1-21).

FARRELL 57, REYNOLDS 27

FARRELL, Pa. – Ja’niya Daniels and Damerra Thomas combined for 44 points as Farrell earned a 57-27 Region 1 win over Reynolds.

Daniels scored 23 points and Thomas 21 for the Steelers (7-12 overall, 5-8 Region 1).

Julie Wade led Reynolds (5-17, 4-10) with eight points, while Ava Murcko added six.
