Pete Paces Brookville Boys in Win at DuBois; ECC Rolls Past St. Marys; Streich Leads Coudy

DUBOIS, Pa. – Behind a strong second-quarter performance from Jake Pete, Brookville continued to surge winning its third in a row and its fifth in six tries with a 47-42 D9 League victory at DuBois.

Pete scored 10 of his game-high 18 points in the second frame helping the Raiders (6-5 overall, 3-1 D9 League) all but erase a six-point deficit going to the quarter.

Outscoring DuBois (7-5, 1-2) 16-12 in the quarter, Brookville was within two, 23-21, at halftime.

The Raiders then took a 32-31 lead going to the fourth quarter on the strength of five Kellan Haines points in the third quarter.

                                      

Brookville then survived a 6 of 14 free-throw performance in the fourth quarter – Pete was 0 of 4 and Haines, who finished with 11 points, was 4 of 8 – to get the win.

Luke Burton was a big reason the Raider held on scoring all seven of his points in the fourth quarter.

Cam Thompson had a team-high 16 points for DUBois, which beat Brookville by 24, 64-40, in the DuBois Holiday Tournament title game on Dec. 28, while Tyson Kennis added nine points.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 55, ST. MARYS 31

ST. MARYS, Pa. – In the makeup of Friday’s postponed rivalry contest, Elk County Catholic got a combined 44 points from Wil Wortman, Jordan Wasko, and Colby Nussbaum to beat visiting St. Marys, 55-31, in a game that acted as both a D9 League and AML contest.

                          

Unbeaten ECC (13-0 overall, 6-0 AML, 5-0 D9 League) used a fast start to set the tone outscoring St. Marys (5-8, 5-2, 0-4) 19-3 in the first quarter behind 11 points from Wasko, who hit three 3-pointers in the quarter.

That was part of a 16-point effort by Wasko, who scored 14 of those tallies before halftime thanks in part to four 3-pointers.

Wil Wortman, who had a game-high 18 points, added six first-quarter tallies.

Nussbaum chipped in with 10 points.

Delvin Caskey scored 10 points, all in the fourth quarter, to lead St. Marys. No other Dutch player had more than three points.

COUDERSPORT 56, SMETHPORT 34

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Building a 32-11 halftime lead, Coudersport rolled to a 56-34 NTL victory over visiting Smethport.

Riley Streich had his second double-double in as many games since his return from a season-long injury with 16 points and 12 rebounds while adding three steals.

Micah Batson added 15 points for the Falcons (7-6 overall, 6-3 NTL) with Mason Roessner chipping in 10 points and four steals.

Carson Dunn had 12 points for Smethport (2-12, 1-8).

                                   

WEST BRANCH 73, CLEARFIELD 66

ALLPORT, Pa. – Owen Koleno had a game-high 35 points to lead West Branch to a 73-66 win over visiting Clearfield.

Joel Evans added 15 points and Isaac Tiracorda chipped in 13 points for the Warriors (13-1).

Parker Collins and Braison Patrick each scored 24 points for Clearfield with Collins adding six assists and four rebounds and Patrick four rebounds and two assists.

Evett Maines chipped in 10 points for the Bison (3-10).
