Nedzinski Beats the Buzzer Again as St. Marys Tops Punxsy; Keystone Edges Curwensvillle

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Anthony Nedzinski’s second buzzer-beater in 10 days lifted St. Marys to a 46-44 win over visiting Punxsutawney in D9 League action.

With the score tied at 44 after the Dutch (9-10 overall, 3-5 D9 League) rallied from a five-point deficit going to the fourth quarter, Nedzinski, who beat the horn at Brookville Jan. 26, scored the game-winner with 1.5 seconds left. It was just his second bucket and fifth point of the night.

St. Marys was down 36-31 going to the final eight minutes before six points from Louie Nedzinski and five from Ben Paul got the game knotted at 44.

Quin Gavazzi led St. Marys with 16 points while hitting four 3-pointers despite not scoring in the fourth quarter.

                                      

Louie Nedzinski added nine points and Paul had seven.

Noah Kengesky pumped in six 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 21 points for Punxsutawney (9-8, 1-6) while Noah Weaver added nine points and Beau Thomas eight.

KEYSTONE 54, CURWENSVILLE 51

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Building an 11-point lead after three quarters, Keystone held off a late comeback attempt by homestanding Curwensville to beat the Golden Tide, 54-51.

The Panthers (6-13) led 41-30 going to the fourth quarter on the strength of 16 Drew Keth points.

                          

Keystone still led by seven, 51-44, with 2:04 to play before Curwensville (9-9) closed the gap to two, 53-51, in the final minute.

Keth then missed two free throws that could have sealed the victory, but Dom Corcetti came away with a steal and hit one of two charity shots to give the Panthers a three-point lead with 1.4 seconds to play.

Curwensville had the ball on the offensive side of the court with 1.1 left following a timeout, but the Golden Tide threw the ball away and Keystone dribbled out the clock.

Keth led the Panthers with 18 points with Corecetti, a freshman, recording a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds including going 4 of 6 from the line in the fourth quarter when he scored six of his points.

Fellow freshman Eli Nellis added 11 points for Keystone.

District 9’s leading scorer, Davis Fleming, scored 12 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter. Parker Wood added 10 points for the Golden Tide.

PORT ALLEGANY 65, BROCKWAY 39

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Visiting Port Allegany got 20 points apiece from ISac Amell and Braylon Button on its way to a 65-39 win over Brockway.

Nick Wilfong added eight points for the Gators (11-8).

Caleb Daughtery paced Brockway (2-16) with nine points.

                                   

REDBANK VALLEY 88, FOREST AREA 35

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Redbank Valley started off a busy and important KSAC week with an 88-35 home win over Forest Area.

Twelve different Bulldogs scored led by 17 points from Breckin Minich.

Ty Carrier and Mason Clouse each added 11 points for first-place Redbank (16-2 overall, 9-0 KSAC), which has big games against Union and second-place Clarion this week that will decide the KSAC regular-season title.

Mitch Bawden paced Forest Area (4-15, 1-8) with 12 points with Colton Kuntz adding seven.

CUBA-RUSHFORD (N.Y.) 69, OSWAYO VALLEY 56

CUBA, N.Y. – Braeden Wright scored 19 points to lift Cuba-Rushford (N.Y.) to a 69-56 win over visiting Oswayo Valley.

Kaden Bell added 10 points for the Rebels (12-6).

Oswayo Valley (2-15) had three players in double digits led by 14 points from Connor Resig. Gabe Mundy added 12 tallies, and Landon Flurschutz chipped in 10 points.
