Base: Great Start by Miller Sets Tone in Clarion Win over ECC; DuBois Ties Bradford in 7th, Beats Owls in 8th; Jburg, Punxsy Get Key Wins powered by N. Washington Rodeo

PAINT TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Clarion built an 8-0 lead on visiting Elk County Catholic before holding on for an 11-7 victory.

A five-run first inning highlighted by RBI singles from Derek Smail, Devon Lauer, and Wyatt Watterson put the Bobcats ahead 5-0 early and chased Matt Gilmore from the mound.

                  

Clarion then added a run in the second on a two-out RBI double by Tanner Miller before back-to-back home runs by Watterson and Dawson Smail in the third made it 8-0.

Watterson’s was an inside-the-park home run off the glove of a diving Frankie Smith in deep center, while Dawson Smail went over the right-center field fence.

Meanwhile, Miller was cruising on the mound throwing a perfect game threw three innings striking out seven on just 44 pitches.

Miller was named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game and talked about the victory and his outing on the Cole Orthodontic Associates Postgame Interview.

                          

But with three more games scheduled this week, Clarion manager Rob Jewett elected to take Miller out of the game for potential use later in the week.

That almost backfired, as ECC scored six runs in the next two innings off of Hayden Weber.

In the fourth, Colby Nussbaum had an RBI double before a fielder’s choice scored a second run to make it 8-2.

Then, in the fifth, a run scored on an error by shortstop Dawson Smail before three straight wild pitches made it 8-6.

Clarion answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning thanks to a two-out, two-run double by Bryce Brinkley.

               

ECC got one of those runs back in the sixth on a single by Wyatt Brem, but a Dylan Smail double, his first career high school hit, over the third-base bag set the score at 11-7.

The Smail brothers were then involved in a double-play in the seventh when, with Matt Gilmore at second, Nussbaum hit a grounder that shortstop Dawson threw to first baseman Derek to get Nussbaum. Derek then tossed to third baseman Dylan to get Gilmore going to third.

Dawson Smail added a double while also being hit by a pitch. He was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Brinkley was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Lauer went 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored and Watterson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Matt Gilmore was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for ECC while Brem was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Matt Alston got the win going two innings allowing one earned run on three hits and a walk.

Gilmore took the loss going ⅔ of an inning allowing five earned runs on six hits and a walk.

DUBOIS 3, BRADFORD 2

DUBOIS, Pa. – Trey Wingard’s walk-off single to right with the bases loaded in the eighth gave DuBois a 3-2 win over Bradford.

            

The Beavers had loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a hit batter against Talan Reese before Wingard delivered the game-winning hit on a 2-0 count.

DuBois tied the game in the seventh with two outs when Noah Farrell singled and Ricky Clark tripled.

Clark was 1-for-3, while Noah Farrell was also 1-for-3. Also for DuBois, Danny Dixon was 2-for-4.

Hunter Allman got the win going four innings in relief allowing one hit and two walks while striking out three.

Grady Galiczynski started for the Beavers going four innings allowing two earned runs on one hit and four walks while striking out seven.

Liam Haven was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Bradford.

Reese took the loss going seven innings allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits, a walk, and a hit batter while striking out six.

JOHNSONBURG 5, CLARION-LIMESTONE 1

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Derek Beimel and Luke Zimmerman combined to four-hit visiting Clarion-Limestone in a 5-1 Johnsonburg win.

Beimel got the victory going five innings allowing one earned run on four hits and six walks while striking out four.

When he left the mound in the fifth, he trailed 1-0, but Johnsonburg erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to reward Beimel for his efforts.

Zimmerman then nailed down the win allowing a walk while striking out three in two innings of relief.

With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth, Tommy Smith relieved Logan Lutz and promptly hit Isaiah Jackson with his first pitch to tie the game.

Zimmerman then unloaded the bases with a three-run double to center before Beimel singled to center to put a cap on the five-run rally.

Logan Lutz had been cruising going into the fifth allowing no hits and three walks before giving up a pair of singles and a walk to end his day. He went 4 ⅓ innings allowing three earned runs on two hits and four walks while striking out eight. Lutz took the loss.

Smith was tagged with two earned runs on two hits and a hit batter in ⅔ of an inning of work.

Paul Craig then threw a scoreless sixth allowing a pair of hits and hitting a batter.

Jesse Siwiecki was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI for C-L.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 5, REDBANK VALLEY 0

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – A strong starting performance from Parker Stahlman helped Punxsutawney run its team runless streak to 14 straight innings with a 5-0 win over visiting Redbank Valley.

The Chucks, who shutout DuBois Central Catholic Friday at home, haven’t allowed a run in their past 18 home innings.

Stahlman played a big role in that going six quality innings allowing three hits and a walk while striking out eight.

Coy Martino then pitched a scoreless seventh striking out two.

Stahlman led the offensive attack for Punxsutawney going 1-for-2 with a walk and three RBIs, while Cooper Hallman was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Also for the Chucks, Maddox Hetrick went 1-for-2 with a triple, a walk, and a run scored.

Jaxson Huffman was 2-for-3 for Redbank Valley with Mason Clouse going 1-for-3 with a double.

Mason Clouse took the loss going 2 ⅓ innings allowing three earned runs on two hits and five walks while striking out four.

CRANBERRY 7, CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 4

SENECA, Pa. – Trailing 4-3, Cranberry scored four runs in the fifth inning to rally past Cambridge Springs, 7-4.

Cole Findlay belted a 2-run home run in the fifth for Cranberry, while an error and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Hudson Galla allowed accounted for the additional two runs in the inning.

Aiden Herrell-Ward got the win in relief, firing 2 ⅔ hitless innings, striking out three and walking one.

Quinn Simmerman accounted for the lone RBI for Cambridge Springs, while Preston Gorton had a double and Josh Gorton scored two runs.

Matthew Ross took the loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) in 1 ⅓ innings, allowing four hits and walking three.
OTTO-ELDRED SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER FROM SMETHPORT

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Otto-Eldred swept a unique doubleheader from Smethport winning the afternoon game, 12-2, in five innings in Eldred before holding on for a 7-6 victory in the evening game at Smethport.

In the opener, Jaden Prince enjoyed a strong game at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and four RBIs.

Manning Splain, Davey Schenfield, and Shane Magee also doubled in the victory for the Terrors with Splain going 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and three runs scored, Schenfield going 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RI, and Magee going 2-for-3 with an RBI, and two runs scored.

Jared Obenrader was also 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI for Otto-Eldred, and Andrew Schenfield went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Zach Schuessler got the win going five innings allowing two unearned runs on four hits while striking out 11.

Cole Szuba was 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI for Smethpor with Bennett Harris going 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Szuba took the loss going 3 ⅔ innings allowing 10 runs, six earned, on eight hits, three walks, and a hit batter. He struck out two.

The nightcap under the lights in Smethport was a nailbiter with Logan Hurlburt’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh bringing the Hubbers within a run while putting runners on second and third with two outs.

But Prince was able to get Ryan Mason to pop up to Obenrader at first to end the game.

Otto-Eldred used a five-run second to lead 5-1 and still led 7-4 going to the sixth.

Prince had a double while going 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and two RBIs for the Terrors while Andrew Schenfield was 20for-4 with an RBI.

Splain also drove in two runs going 2-for-5 with a run scored, and Davey Schenfield walked twice and scored twice.

Obenrader got the win going 5 ⅔ innings allowing five runs, two earned, on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Prince picked up the save allowing a hit in a ⅓ of an inning.

Brentton McDowell and Zach Hungiville added doubles for Smethport.

McDowell was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and two RBIs with Hungiville going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Evan Ruffner was also 2-for-4.

McDowell took the loss allowing seven runs, six earned, on five hits, a hit batter, and seven walks while striking out seven in four innings.

PORT ALLEGANY 7, OSWAYO VALLEY 1

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Derek Smith and Nick Wilfong scattered eight hits while allowing just one run and striking out 11 in Port Allegany’s 7-1 home win over Oswayo Valley.

Smith got the win going four innings allowing an earned run on three hits, two walks, and a hit batter. He struck out six.

Wilfong got the save going three innings of scoreless ball. He allowed five hits and struck out five.

Wilfong and Smith both contributed on offense, as well, with Wilfong going 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored and Smith going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Aiden Bliss was also 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI for the Gators.

Isaiah Goode stayed hot for Oswayo Valley going 3-for-4 while Ethan Hackman was 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.

Hackman took the loss going 2 ⅓ innings allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits, a walk, and a hit batter. He struck out five.

BELLWOOD-ANTIS 4, CLEARFIELD 2

BELLWOOD, Pa. – A trio of Bellwood-Antis pitchers combined to toss a seven-hitter as the Blue Devils downed visiting Clearfield, 4-2.

Vincent Cacciotti got the win going four innings allowing two earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five.

Chris Walls then threw a scoreless fifth allowing a hit while hitting a batter before Curtis Shedlock tossed two scoreless, hitless innings to get the save. He struck out one.

Bellwood-Antis scored all four of its runs in the second inning on two-run singles by Chase Plummer and Connor Cobaugh.

O’Brian Owens was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Clearfield, while Hayvin Bumbarger went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Cole Bloom was also 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Hunter Rumsky took the loss going seven innings allowing four earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight.

BROOKVILLE 11, KEYSTONE 1, 5 INNINGS

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Using 10 hits, six walks, and six hit batters, Brookville rolled to an 11-1, five-inning win, over Keystone at Brookville’s McKinley Field.

Pierson Ruhlman and Jack Pete each drove in a pair of runs for the Raiders with Ruhlman going 1-for-2 and Pete going 2-for-2 with a run scored. Ruhlman was hit by two pitches and Pete by one.

Sergio Sotillo was also 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored for Brookville, Owen Fleming went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, an RBI, and two runs scored, and Kai Kaltenbach was 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Soittlo was also hit by a pitch.

Easton Belfiore got the win going 3 ⅓ innings allowing one earned run on four hits, three walks, and a hit batter. He struck out three.

Noah Weckerly was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Keystone with Gabe Deemer going 2-for-2 with a double.

Kord Stewart took the loss going three innings allowing seven earned runs on five hits, four walks, and four hit batter. He struck out one.
BROCKWAY 14, CAMERON COUNTY 4

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Brockway broke open a one-run game with a nine-run seventh inning on its way to a 14-4 win at Cameron County.

The Rovers led 5-4 going to the seventh.

Matt Brubaker, Andrew Brubaker, and Chad Young each had doubles for the Rovers with Matt Brubaker, Young, and Raiden Craft each driving in a pair of runs.

Matt Brubaker was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored, Young was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, and Craft scored a run.

Andrew Brubaker, meanwhile, went 1-for-2 with two walks, and an RBI, and two runs scored.

Also for Brockway, Jeremy Swanson was 1-for-4 with a walk, and an RBI, and two runs scored, and Gage Park walked three times and scored twice.

Young got the win going five innings allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits and four walks while striking out six.

Ryan Shaffer and Maddox Baughman both doubles for Cameron County with Shaffer going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored and Baughman going 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, and two RBIs.

Josh Beer took the loss going six-plus innings allowing seven runs, four earned, on four hits, six walks, and a hit batter. He struck ou five.

MONITEAU 15, NORTH CLARION 0, 4 INNINGS

BUTLER, Pa. – Dawson Cook and Connor Ealy combined on a two-hit shutout as Moniteau beat visiting North Clarion, 15-0, in four innings at Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park in Butler.

Cook went three innings allowing a hit and two walks while striking out eight, and Ealy went an inning allowing a hit while hitting a batter and striking out one.

Keagan Book had a triple of the Warriors while Dawson Wallace added a double.

Book was 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored, and three RBIs, while Wallace was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Ealy also went 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, and four runs scored, Ian Ross was 1-for-2 with three RBIs, and Alex James was 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored.

Ethan Carll was 1-for-2 with a double for North Clarion.

Drake Irwin took the loss going three innings allowing 11 runs, seven earned, on eight hits, six walks, and a hit batter. He struck out two.

KARNS CITY 22, FOREST AREA 0, 3 INNINGS

BUTLER, Pa. – Using an 18-run second inning, Karns City beat Forest Area, 22-0, in three innings at Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park in Butler.

Jacob Jones and Troy Nagel each had a triple of the Gremlins with Jones going 1-for-1 with a walk, three runs scored and three RBIs and Nagel going 2-for-3 with five RBIs.

Also driving in a pair of runs for Karns City were Jacob Callihan, who also scored twice, and Ethan McElravy.

Colton Kuntz was 1-for-2 with a double for Forest Area.

Nathan Dietrich took the loss going 1 ⅓ innings allowing 12 runs, five earned, on three hits, three hit batters, and four walks.

Mason Sherwin got the win going two innings allowing one hit while striking out three.
