ERIE, Pa. – The McDowell girls’ soccer team continued its D10 dominance with its 24th title, 9-0 over Erie for the Class 4A crown.
Trinity Bennett scored three goals for the Trojans in the win, two of which came in the first half.
McDowell led 5-0 at halftime, with Abriella Whatamore scoring both of her goals in the first half.
Carmel Frenn scored two goals for McDowell, while Kiera Spano and Grace Faulkner also had one goal each for the Trojans.
“The girls have been working hard all season,” said McDowell coach Jay Perkins. “Now we’re kind of getting it all together at the right time.”
With the win, McDowell will play Altoona, a 4-0 winner over State College, in a subregional on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the first round of the PIAA playoffs on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

ERIE, Pa. – A pair of second half goals rallied Erie past McDowell, 2-1 for the District 10 Class 4A boys’ title.
Trailing 1-0, Joe Blamo scored with 17 minutes to play to tie the game at 1-1.
Just over six minutes later, it was Gentile Kimanuka scoring to give the Royals a 2-1 lead the wouldn’t relinquish.
Andrew Danch scored in the first half for McDowell on an assist from Ahmed Agag.
With the win, Erie will face State College in a subregional on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the PIAA playoffs on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
