Hungiville Leads Smethport to Comeback OT Win; Keystone Tops Ridgway in OT; Punxsy Wins 7th Straight D9 League Title

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Down 10 at halftime, Smethport rallied to beat visiting Johnsonburg, 56-51, in overtime.

Elizabeth Hungiville played a key role in the comeback scoring 20 of her career-high 32 points in the second half and overtime including four points in overtime.

Hungiville also netted 14 fourth-quarter points helping the Lady Hubbers outscore Johnsonburg 19-13 in the quarter to tie the game at 49 at the end of regulation.

Jaidyn Goodman added three points in overtime for Smethport, which outscored Johnsonburg 7-2 in overtime.

                                      

Hungiville, who hit 11 of 20 shots from the field, completed a monster double-double with 16 rebounds while adding four blocked shots, two assists, and two steals.

Abby Lutz chipped in 10 points, four steals, three assists, and a rebound for the Lady Hubbers who also got seven points, seven rebounds, and three assists from Goodman.

Maria Casilio had 13 points for Johnsonburg with Cadence Brechtel and Ella Lindberg each scoring 12.

Johnsonburg led 18-10 at the end of a quarter of play and 27-17 at halftime.

KEYSTONE 29, RIDGWAY 26

                          

KNOX, Pa. – Mia Traister hit 3 of 4 free throws in overtime to help lift Keystone to a 29-26 home win over Ridgway.

Ridgway forced overtime when Gabby Amacher hit a 3-pointer from the top of the circle with just under two seconds to play tying the game at 26.

Ridgway had gotten the ball back with 6.7 seconds to play in regulation after a mistake by the Lady Panthers, who following a deadball, tried to pass the ball from one player to another out of bounds on the inbounds play resulting in an inbounds violation.

But in overtime, Traister hit one of two free throws 54 seconds in and then hit two more with 1:36 to play to give Keystone a 29-26 lead.

Ridgway had a chance following an inbounds play with under five seconds left in overtime, but a desperation heave by Jenna Kasmeriski was well short as time ran out.

Emma Gruber led Keystone with 10 points with Amanda Reyes adding eight and Natalie Bowser seven.

Kasmierski finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, and four steals for Ridgway with Amacher adding nine points and Kristen Ellenberger chipped in eight steals and seven rebounds.

BROCKWAY 42, KANE 30

                                   

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Avenging a 27-point loss 18 days ago, Brockway rallied from a 1-point halftime deficit to beat Kane, 42-30, on Senior Night in Brockway.

The Lady Rovers trailed 17-16 at halftime but outscored Kane 16-11 in the third quarter to take a 32-28 lead.

Kalina Powell Reagan Gelnette, and Madelyn Schmader each scored four points in the third quarter.

Rheanna Spinda then scored six points in the fourth quarter to help Brockway pull away.

Madelyn Schmader turned in a strong performance on her Senior Night with seven points, seven steals, and seven rebounds, while Powell had a team-high 10 points to go with five rebounds and five steals.

Sophia Schmader scored nine points to go with 10 rebounds and six steals, Spinda scored nine points, and Gelnette had seven points and seven rebounds.

Maya Smith had 13 points for Kane, which beat Brockway 52-25 Jan. 20 in Kane.

KARNS CITY 58, WEST SHAMOKIN 55

RURAL VALLEY, Pa. – Down four at halftime, visiting Karns CIy outscored West Shamokin by six in the third quarter on its way to a 58-55 win at West Shamokin.

The Lady Gremlins were down 31-27 at the break but outscored the Wolves 15-9 in the third quarter to take the lead.

Brooklyn Taylor hit a pair of third-quarter 3-pointers, and Chloe Fritch, in her first game back since Jan. 20, scored five points in the quarter to lead the comeback for Karns City.

Fritch then added eight more points in the fourth quarter on her way to a team-high 18.

Taylor added 14 in the win with Savanna Prescott chipping in nine and Emma Dailey eight.

Lily Jordan had 15 points for West Shamokin with Mel Spohn adding 11 points.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 50, ST. MARYS 25

                                  

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – In dominating fashion, Punxsutawney secured its seventh straight D9 League title with a 50-25 win over visiting St. Marys.

A 20-2 second-quarter run was the difference in the contest, as the Lady Chucks turned a 12-8 lead after eight minutes into a 32-10 halftime advantage.

Chloe Presloid scored seven second-quarter points with Avary Powell adding six and Danielle Griebel five.

Presloid led Punxsutawney, which is 66-2 since the streak started in 2016 (there was no league in 2021 due to the COVID-19 bubble), with 15 points, three rebounds, and a steal.

Danielle Griebvel added 12 points, eight assists, and five rebounds, while Powell had 14 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Samantha Griebel chipped in seven points, three steals, two assists, and two rebounds.

Jayssa Snelick led St. Marys with 13 points with Olivia Eckels adding six.

FOREST AREA 42, ROCKY GROVE 24

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Amber Guzzi had 11 points, seven rebounds, and four steals, as Forest Area closed out its season with a 42-24 win at Rocky Grove.

Kaylie Rooke added eight points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and three steals for the Fires who also got 11 points and two steals from Jayden Colvin and six points from Tori Brown.

Jalynne Konetsky had seven points for Rocky Grove. .

MONITEAU 62, SLIPPERY ROCK 36

SLIPPER ROCK, Pa. – Behind 18 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals from Catherine Kelly, Moniteau rolled to a 62-36 win over homestanding Slippery Rock.

Kendall Sankey added 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals for the Lady Warriors with Davina Pry chipping in nine points and eight rebounds, Allie Pry adding eight points, and Abbey Jewart dishing out four assists to go with three points.

Madison Romanovich led Slippery Rock with 15 points with Julia Coffaro adding nine points.

CRANBERRY 55, A-C VALLEY 31

FOXBUIRG, Pa. – Kendall Findlay scored a career-high 24 points to lift Cranberry to a 55-31 road win over A-C Valley.

Mariah Wensell added nine points in the victory for the Berries.

Maddy Dehart had 13 points and 10 rebounds for A-C Valley with Mackenzie Parks adding eight points and nine rebounds and Keira McVay one point and three steals.

DUBOIS 44, BRADFORD 26

BRADFORD, Pa. – Teegan Runyan led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points, as visiting DuBois beat Bradford, 44-26.

Bree Weible added nine points for the Lady Beavers with Madison Rusnica scoring eight, Kam Fontaine seven, and Rylee Werner six.

Alanna Benson had 13 points for Bradford with Kalie Dixon adding eight points.
