Hickory’s Petrochko Holds One-Shot Lead After First Round of PIAA Golf Championships Powered by Hunter’s Station Golf Club

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Playing at Penn State’s White Course, Hickory’s Sasha Petrochko is the leader after round one of the PIAA Class 2A girls’ golf championships.

Petrochko shot an even par 72, currently holding a one-shot lead over fellow D10 golfer Anna Swan of North Eas and Anna Zapletalova of Wyoming Seminary.

The leaderboard is loaded with District 10 golfers near the top, as West Middlesex’s Katie Sowers is tied for fourth at +2, while Hickory’s Luciana Masters is at +3. In addition, Hickory’s Ava Luburdi, Mercyhurst Prep’s Katie Caryl and Wilmington’s Kaitlyn Hoover are all at +8, in a tie for 12th. Also, Fairview’s Cora Hirz sits at +12 and Karns City’s Chloe Fritch at +15.

While District 10 is all over the Class 2A girls’ leaderboard, the next closest to the top of the leaderboard among D9/10 golfers is Warren’s Braddock Damore in the Class 3A boys’ field. Damore shot a 2-under (70) on the Blue Course that has him in a tie for seventh with Colton Lusk of Peters Township and Nate Radwanski of Governor Mifflin. Damore holed in for eagle on No. 18 to get himself into red numbers.  Aidan Farkas of St. Joe’s Prep and Wes Lorish of Plum share the lead at -6.

West Middlesex’s Caden Bender is the top D9/10 golfer in the Class 2A boys’ field, tied for 19th after a first-round 75 (+3). Clarion’s Devon Lauer and Fairview’s Anthony Laboda are at +5 after the first round. Wyoming Seminary’s Nick Werner is the clubhouse leader after shooting an opening round 68 (-4).

            

In the Class 3A girls’ field, McDowell’s Alexis Marsh is at +15, Bradford’s Payten Leet is at +17 and McDowell’s Analise Wolfe is at +18. Rhianna Goonderatne was the only player under par, shooting a 67 (-5).
