Favorites Largely Hold Serve in Advancing to Semifinals on Day 1 of D9, D10 Wrestling Championships Powered by Luton’s Plumbing, Heating, A/C

CLARION, Pa. – There was very little in the way of drama on Day 1 of the District 9 Class 2A wrestling championships, as the top seeds in each weight class all held serve to advance to the semifinals.

St. Marys is in the lead in the team race, but barely, with 71.5 team points, followed by Clearfield (68.5), Cranberry (63), Brookville (57), and Brockway (46.5)

Action gets underway on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the semifinals, followed by the third and fifth-place matches at 3 p.m. and the Parade of Champions and finals at 5 p.m.

DISTRICT 10 CLASS 2A

                              

SHARON, Pa. – A total of 23 of 26 wrestlers who won their sectional weight classes last week advanced to the semifinals at the District 10 Class 2A wrestling championships on Friday.

With that, the team standings have gone pretty much according to seed through Friday’s action, with Fort LeBoeuf leading the way at 73 points, followed by Reynolds at 65, General McLane at 57, Corry at 48.5, and Sharpsville at 45.5.

Action gets underway at 9:15 a.m. with the semifinals and consolation matches, with the third, fifth, and seventh-place matches at 3:30 p.m. and the Parade of Champions and finals at 5:30 p.m.

CLASS 3A NORTHWEST REGIONAL

                          

ALTOONA, Pa. – At least one District 9/District 10 wrestler is alive in the semifinals in every weight class at the Class 3A Northwest Regional.

A total of 21 D9/10 wrestlers are alive in the semis, including three each at 114 – McDowell’s Logan Sallot, Punxsutawney’s Dysen Gould, and Cathedral Prep’s Amir Johnson, and at 127 – Hickory’s Mike Reardon, DuBois’ Samson Deeb, and Prep’s Sam Stabb.

Other wrestlers in the semis include Meadville’s Ben Fuller and Hickory’s Brody Bishop at 107, Meadville’s Caleb Anderson and Prep’s Keegan Oler at 121, DuBois Brendan Orr at 133, Prep Brandon Byrd and Hickory’s Connor Saylor at 139, Bradford’s Jordan Thompson at 14, Meadville’s Brighton Anderson and McDowell’s Artis Simmons at 152, McDowell’s Caleb Butterfield at 160, Punxsutawney’s Grant Miller at 172, Hickory’s Ty Holland at 189 and McDowell’s Troy Petterson at 215 and Jack Sroka at 285.

Central Mountain leads the team standings with 78 points, while Hickory is third at 53.5, McDowell seventh at 49.5, and Prep eighth at 49.
