Farrell Loses PIAA Appeal to Join WPIAL; Steelers to Remain in District 10

Farrell AD/football coach Amp Pegues discusses something with Eric Bell. Pegues and the Steelers had been hoping to rejoin the WPIAL but had the request rejected by the PIAA BoD

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The PIAA Board of Directors Wednesday, Jan. 24, denied Farrell’s appeal to leave District 10 and join the WPIAL.

Farrell started the process of leaving District 10 following a series of racial incidents, including some this past fall.

District 10 approved the request in December, but the WPIAL recommended rejecting Farrell at its January meeting.

That left the district one last avenue to move from District 10 to the WPIAL, an appeal to the PIAA.

But that appeal was denied Wednesday.

According to Chris Harlan of the Tribune-Review, the PIAA Board of Directors did, however, approve a motion to help District 10 address the issues Farrell raised in wanting to leave the District.

Farrell had a large history of success in the WPIAL before leaving the PIAA District also known as PIAA District 7 in the mid to late 2000s citing travel concerns at the time.
