OIL CITY, Pa. – District 9 and the KSAC will be losing teams in various sports after it was announced Friday, Feb. 9, that Venango Catholic High School would close at the end of the 2023-24 school year.

“I share in the pain of all who are affected by the decision,” the Most Rev. Lawrence T. Persico, bishop of the Erie Diocese, said in a media release by members of the Venango Region Catholic School Association via the Diocese of Erie.

Venango Catholic had varsity teams in girls’ volleyball and boys’ basketball this season. Girls also had the opportunity to play basketball in a co-op at Cranberry.

The YDL Sports Network has asked the PIAA to clarify the status of student-athletes who transfer to other schools next year.
