Curwensville Baseball/Softball Sweep; Karns City Baseball, Wilmington, Titusville Softball Nab Season-Opening Wins

Wilmington's Ava Williamson drove in three runs and was also the winning pitcher in a 15-2 win over Karns City.

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Christian Fegert went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs to lead Curwensville to a season-opening 10-9 win at Brockway.

Curwensville trailed 6-4 after three innings but scored a run in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth to take a 10-6 advantage.

Ayden Sutika and Logan Kunkle drove in two runs each as well for Curwensville.

Sutika got the win, allowing two runs in three innings on one hit and two walks while striking out a pair.

Andrew Brubaker was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Brockway, while Dylan Bash was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

                  

Jeremy Swanson took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) in two innings, allowing three hits and two walks.

KARNS CITY 11, OIL CITY 2

OIL CITY, Pa. – Mitchell Waldroup drove in three runs as Karns City scored three runs in the first inning, five in the fifth, and three in the seventh in an 11-2 season-opening win over Oil City.

Michael Neff went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs for the Gremlins, while Mallick Metcalfe was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.

Neff got the win, going five innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out six and walking two.

                          

Alex Stevens took the loss, allowing eight runs (three earned) in four innings on nine hits, striking out six and walking two.

FREEPORT 11, MONITEAU 2

WASHINGTON, Pa. – At Wild Things Park, Zach Clark went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in Freeport’s 11-2 win over Moniteau.

Michael Hanz and A.J. Demharter both had a triple, two hits, and two RBIs each for Freeport.

Dylan Stonebraker got the win for Freeport with a pair of scoreless innings.

               

Moniteau actually led, 2-1 after the second inning, but Freeport scored three runs in the third and four more in the fifth to pull away.

Dawson Wallace took the loss, allowing four runs in three innings on nine hits, striking out two and walking one.

Connor Ealy had an RBI for the Warriors.

SOFTBALL

CURWENSVILLE 21, BROCKWAY 0, 5 innings

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Addison Butler, Teagan Harzinski, and Ava Olosky drove in four runs each as Curwensville beat Brockway 21-0 in five innings in the season opener for both teams.

Butler had two doubles and Olosky and Harzinski one each as Curwensville pounded out 17 hits.

The Golden Tide scored nine runs in the third inning and eight in the fifth.

Addison Siple went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs as well for Curwensville.

            

Siple got the win, allowing just one hit in her five innings of work, striking out 13, and allowing one walk.

Taylor Rhed took the loss, allowing 12 runs (four earned) in two innings on 10 hits, striking out three and walking two.

WILMINGTON 15, KARNS CITY 2, 6 innings

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Avery Harlan homered and drove in three runs as Wilmington beat Karns City, 15-2 in six innings.

Ava Williamson also drove in three runs for Wilmington, which scored six runs in the first inning and six more in the sixth.

Faith Jones was 2-for-3 with three runs scored for the Greyhounds, while Paije Peterson, Chloe Krarup, and Karah Deal all drove in two runs.

Williamson got the win, allowing two unearned runs in three innings on two hits, striking out five and walking three.

Jess Dunn had two hits and Nicole Taylor had an RBI for Karns City.

TITUSVILLE 15, A-C VALLEY 3, 5 innings 

DUBOIS, Pa. – Bri Wynn and Jordan Wynn drove in three runs each as Titusville topped A-C Valley 15-3 in five innings at Heindl Field.

Abbie Collie and Kasey Krepps drove in two runs each for Titusville, which had 18 hits, while Collie, Jordan Wynn, and Dani Fonzo had three hits apiece.

Jordan Wynn got the win, allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit, walking four, and striking out nine.

Kya Wetzel had the lone hit for A-C Valley, while Mackenzie Park and Bella Ielase had an RBI each.

Magen Walzak took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) in one inning on four hits, striking out two and walking two.
