AUSTIN 47, SMETHPORT 34

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Austin now controls its own destiny in the race for an NTL playoff spot after a 47-34 win at Smethport.

The Lady Panther victory coupled with a Northern Potter loss to Oswayo Valley leaves Austin (12-7 overall, 9-5 NTL) a game up in the loss column on both NoPo and Oswayo Valley for fourth place in the conference with four teams making the postseason.

Austin has two league games left – albeit against the top two teams in the conference Coudersport and Port Allegany – while Northern Potter still has four conference games remaining – Coudersport twice, Cameron County, and last-place Galeton – with Oswayo Valley having two conference tilts left – Smethport and Cameron County. The top four teams advance to the inaugural NTL postseason tournament.

OSWAYO VALLEY 28, NORTHERN POTTER 26

ULYSSES, Pa. – Outscoring Northern Potter by two points in the fourth quarter, Oswayo Valley kept its NTL playoff hopes alive with a 28-26 road win.

The Green Wave (12-7 overall, 8-6 NTL) and Lady Panthers (10-8, 6-6) were tied at 19 going to the fourth quarter before Oswayo Valley used free throws (5 of 10) and five points from Brooke George to get the important win.

With the victory, OV is a game back in the loss column of Austin for the fourth and final playoff spot in the inaugural NTL playoffs. They are also tied in the loss column for fifth place with Northern Potter, whom the Green Wave split the season series with.

The win also secured just the third .500 conference season since 1999 for the Green Wave, who were also .500 in NTL play in 1999 (7-7) and last year (8-8). A win against either Smethport or Cameron County would give Oswayo Valley its first above .500 conference season in at least 29 years. The YDL Sports Network has OV conference records dating back to 1996 without an above .500 conference mark.

If the Green Wave win out in the regular season, they also play Cowanesque Valley, they would be guaranteed their most wins since 1996 as well. Oswayo won 14 games in 2008 (14-11) and 13 in 2005 (13-12).
