Brookville Secures Ninth Straight D9 2A Dual Meet Title; Clearfield Falls to Williamsport in 3A

DUBOIS, Pa. – Making it nine District 9 Class 2A Dual Meet wrestling titles in a row, Brookville moves on to the PIAA Championships Thursday in Hershey after two wins at DuBois Area High School Saturday.

The Raiders, who have won every dual title since 2014, beat Curwensville 55-9 and then Brockway 40-23 in the championship match to earn a first-round spot in the state bracket.

Now 19-2, the Raiders face the winner of Monday’s Burgettstown vs. Fort LeBoeuf preliminary match at Giant Center starting at 2 p.m.

Brookville beat Curwensville, taking the first 10 bouts and building a 52-0 lead before giving up two wins, one of them a forfeit in the final bout. Logan Oakes, Owen Reinsel, Josh Popson, Gavin Hannah and Jackson Zimmerman had pins.

Meanwhile, in the other semifinal, the Rovers beat Port Allegany for the second time this year in a 40-12 rout. The first time around, the Rovers edged the Gators 37-36 thanks to two bonus-point wins including a pin in the final bout from Parker Pisarchick.

This time, it wasn’t as close as the Gators had a couple of wrestlers out from the first matchup and the Rovers won the pre-match coin flip allowing them to set their lineup much better. The end result was the Rovers winning eight of 11 contested bouts on the mat with both Weston and Blake Pisarchick, Mark Palmer, and Seth Stewart notching pins.

In the final, the Raiders took six of the first eight bouts to build a 28-6 lead. Logan Oakes and Brecken Cieleski won decisions, Owen Reinsel notched a major decision and Coyha Brown earned a forfeit win at 160 before Easton Belfiore’s pin at 172 extended to the 22-point lead.

Other wins for the Raiders came from Bryce Rafferty’s pin at 215 and a forfeit win for Chris Carroll at 106.

The Rovers got wins from Parker Pisarchick (decision) at 126, Blake Pisarchick (decision) at 152, Seth Stewart (forfeit) at 189, Gavin Thompson (pin) at heavyweight and Weston Pisarchick (technical fall) at 113.

The Class 3A final afterward featured Williamsport dealing Clearfield its first loss of the season in a 34-25 decision. In a battle of two state-ranked heavyweights, the Millionaires’ No. 8 (as per papowerwrestling.com) ranked Charles pinned Clearfield’s No. 4 Oliver Billotte to give the Millionaires a six-point lead with two bouts left, and with the Bison forfeiting one of them, it was the clinching decision.

In the semifinals, Williamsport beat Shikellamy 43-15 while Clearfield beat Selinsgrove 48-15.
