BASEBALL: Johnsonburg Rallies Past Smethport; Punxsy Topples ECC

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – A 5-run fourth lifted Johnsonburg to a 7-2 win over visiting Smethport.

The Rams did all their damage in the fourth with two outs. Cameron Larkin drew a bases-loaded walk to get the first run on the board. Eric Hoffman followed with a 2-run single. Nick Myers and Rocco Delhunty then hit back-to-back RBI singles to put Johnsonburg in front, 6-2. The Rams tacked on an insurance run in the fifth.

Hoffman finished with two hits, a run scored, and two RBI. Isaiah Jackson scored three runs without officially registering an at-bat (he walked twice and was hit by a pitch three times).

Hunter Beeler got the win allowing two unearned runs on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts in four innings. Luke Zimmerman walked three and struck out six in three scoreless innings.

Evan Ruffner took the loss allowing five earned runs on four hits with two walks in ⅔ inning. Cole Szuba allowed one unearned run on one hit with three walks and three strikeouts in three innings. Brentton McDowell gave up one earned run while walking six and striking out one in 2 ⅓ innings.

   

                  

PUNXSUTAWNEY 6, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 1

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Punxsutawney scored two runs in each of the second and third innings on its way to a 6-1 win over Elk County Catholic.

Ty Limrick got the scoring started with a 2-run double in the second. Parker Stahlman hit an RBI single and Luke Miller drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Chucks ahead 4-0.

Nevin Day and Brody Stouffer each had a pair of hits in the win. Day scored once and drove in a run, while Stouffer scored twice. Miller and Limrick each finished with two RBI.

Day picked up the win with four scoreless innings. He didn’t allow a hit, walked one, and struck out nine. Stahlman allowed one unearned run on one hit with three strikeouts in two innings. C Martino threw one scoreless inning, walking one and striking out the side.

                          

Charlie Geci had ECC’s lone hit and RBI. He also gave up one unearned run on one hit with a walk and a strikeout in one inning.

Shawn Geci took the loss allowing four earned runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 2 ⅔ innings. Matthew Gilmore gave up one unearned run on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 2 ⅓ innings.

CENTRAL MOUNTAIN 5, DUBOIS 2, 5 INNINGS

MILL HALL, Pa. – A 4-run fifth lifted Central Mountain to a 5-2, 5-inning win over DuBois.

               

The Beavers took the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. The Wildcats answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. DuBois scored three runs in the top of the sixth, but because the game was called before Central Mountain batted in the bottom of the inning, the score reverts, by rule, to the fifth inning.

Hunter Allman and Trey Wingard each had an RBI, while Danny Dixon and Talon Hodge each scored a run.

Allman gave up five earned runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout in two innings. Noah Farrell didn’t give up a hit, walked four, and struck out seven in three innings.

REDBANK VALLEY 12, WEST SHAMOKIN 1, 5 INNINGS

RURAL VALLEY, Pa. – A 6-run first inning propelled Redbank Valley to a 12-1, 5-inning win at West Shamokin.

Mason and Owen Clouse each had two hits, including a double for Mason. Owen drove in four runs and scored one. Mason scored twice. Ty Carrier had three RBI and Brock George had two RBI. Breckin Minich scored three runs, while Braylon Wagner and Drew Byers each scored twice.

Carrier got the start and allowed one hit and struck out one in two scoreless innings. Jaxon Huffman gave up a hit and struck out two in two scoreless innings, while Wagner allowed one unearned run on one hit with two walks and a strikeout in one inning.
