BASEBALL

BROOKVILLE 10, PUNXSUTAWNEY 9

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Hunter Geer’s bases-loaded single to center with two outs in the bottom of the seventh capped a six-run rally for Brookville in a 10-9 home win over Punxsutawney at Punxsutawney’s Kuntz Field.

The game was moved to Punxsutawney because of field conditions at McKinley Field in Brookville.

   

                  

The Raiders, making their season debut, trailed 9-4 going to the bottom of the seventh but used seven hits – six singles – a walk, and a hit batter to rally for the win.,

In seventh, Riley Smith got the rally started by reaching on an error, Geer and Rhoades then singled to make 9-5.

Rhoades then advanced to second on a ball and dirt, and when the throw to second went into center Geer scored and Rhoades went to third.

Rhoades then scored on a ground out by Bryce Rafferty to make 9-7.

Hunter Roney kept the rally going by drawing a walk, and Griffin Ruhlman doubled putting the tying run at second base with one out.

                          

A ground out by Carson Weaver scored Roney and sent Ruhlman to third, and Ruhlman tied the game when he scored on a single to left by Owen Caylor.

Logan Oakes pinch ran for Caylor and went to second when Kessler reached on an error before Smith was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Geer.

Brookville had led 3-0 after an inning before Punxsutawney tied the game with three runs in the top of the second and then added a run in the third and four in the fourth to go ahead 8-3.

The Raiders got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, but the Chucks tacked on a run in the fifth to push the score to 9-4.

               

Geer was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Weaver was 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Brookville offense.

Also for the Raiders, Rhoades went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Smith was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI and Rooney scored two runs.

Zeke Bennett paced Punxsutawney going 2-for-2 with two walks, a run scored, and two RBIs. Carter Savage was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored, and two RBIs and Jake Sikora went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Rafferty, Brookville’s third pitcher, got the win going two scoreless innings allowing one hit and a walk while striking out four.

Geer got the start and pitched three innings allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits, three walks, and a hit batter while striking out one. Ruhlman pitched two innings giving up five earned runs on five hits and three walks.

Coy Martino took the loss for Punxsutawney going 2 ⅔ innings allowing six runs, two earned runs, on four hits, a walk, and a hit batter.

Isaac London started for the Chucks and pitched four innings giving up four unearned runs on six hits while striking out seven.

DUBOIS 8, ST. MARYS 7, 8 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – Nate Tyler scored on an error after a base hit by Gavin Kaschalk in the bottom of the eighth inning, as DuBois edged visiting St. Marys, 8-7, at Showers Field in DuBois.

The Beavers forced extra innings with two runs in the bottom of the seventh with Colby Estrada’s two-run, one-out single scoring Billy Gray and Kaden Clark.

            

Estrada was 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and two RBIs to pace DuBois, while Gray and Clark were both 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Logan Mosier had a big game for St. Marys going 4-for-4 with a triple, a run scored, and three RBIs.

Christian Coudriet was also 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, an RBI, and three runs scored for the Dutch.

Tyler Chamberlin got the win for DuBois pitching two innings allowing one earned run on three hits and four walks while striking out four.

Tycen Roy started for DuBois and went five innings giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits, a hit batter, and a walk while striking out four. Brock Smith relieved and pitched an inning giving up two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out one.

Carter Redmond took the loss pitching 3 ⅓ innings allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits, and a walk while striking out two.

Charlie Coudriet started for the Dutch and went two innings giving up two earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out three. Alex Vollmer pitched two innings in relief allowing three earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one.

WEST MIDDLESEX 10, JAMESTOWN 3

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Richie Preston’s three-run homer spearheaded a five-run fifth inning and helped lift West Middlesex to a 10-3 win over Jamestown.

Preston’s homer came with the Big Reds trailing 3-2.

Blaise Fox had RBIs in both the fifth and four-run sixth inning for Middlesex, notching a run-scoring single in the fifth and a bases-loaded walk in the sixth. Devin Gruver went 2-for-4 for the Big Reds.

Fox got the win, going five innings and recording 12 of his 15 outs via strikeout. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and walked two. Gruver tossed two scoreless innings of relief with six strikeouts.

Peyton McElhinney and Aidan Hoyt each went 2-for-4 with a run scored for Jamestown.

Connor Doberiener took the loss for Jamestown, allowing six runs (four earned) in five innings. He allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out three.

SHARPSVILLE 12, KENNEDY CATHOLIC 4

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Luke Distler and Stephen Tarnoci drove in three runs each as Sharpsville powered past Kennedy Catholic for its first win on the young season, 12-4.

The Blue Devils struck early, scoring five runs in the second inning. Josh Divens, Tarnoci and Jack Leipheimer all drove in runs in the frame.

Distler, Tarnoci and Carter Dejulia finished with two hits apiece for Sharpsville.

Eli Eckles went 2 ⅔ innings for Sharpsville, allowing two runs on four hits and five walks, striking out four. Braden Scarvel tossed 4 ⅓ innings of relief, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks, striking out five.

Remington Hart had a big day at the plate for Kennedy Catholic, going 2-for-4 with a home run, double, two RBI and two runs. Stargell Fuhr was 4-for-4 with a pair of runs and Davey Cochenour also doubled and drove in a pair of runs.

Fuhr took the loss, allowing seven earned runs in 2 ⅔ innings on seven hits, walking three.

SOFTBALL

PUNXSUTAWNEY 17, BROOKVILLE 1, 3 INNINGS

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Being the visiting team on its own field didn’t slow Punxsutawney down, as the Lady Chucks rolled past Brookville, 17-1, in three innings.

The Lady Raider’s home game was played in Punxsutawney because of field conditions in Brookville.

Ciara Toven and Laci Poole each drove in three runs to lead the Lady Chucks with Toven going 1-for-2 with a home run and two runs scored and Poole going 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored. Karli Young added a 3-for-3 day with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI in the win.

Also for Punxsutawney, Kaylee Guidice (2-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs), Sydney Hoffman (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), and Brynn Hergert (2-for-2, 3 runs, 2 RBIs) each had two hits.

Toven got the win going two perfect games striking out six.
