Weber Grand Slam Caps Eight-Run Sixth as Clarion Rallies Past St. Marys; ACV/Union Shuts Down Curwensville

ST. MARYS, Pa. – An eight-run sixth inning helped visiting Clarion rally past St. Marys, 11-5.

The defending PIAA Class 1A champion Bobcats were in danger of going 0-2 on the season as St. Marys took a 5-3 lead into the sixth.

But in the sixth, Clarion sent 11 men to the plate and scored all eight runs after two outs.

In fact, the Bobcats didn’t have a base runner in the inning until Bryce Brinkley singled with two outs. Noah Harrison then walked and Derek Smail singled home a run.

After Tanner Miller walked, Devon Lauer hit a ball that ended up as an error that scored three runs to put Clarion up 7-5.

                  

Another walk, this time to Matt Alston, and then a passed ball on a third strike with Daunte Girvan, loaded the bases again. Hayden Weber then unloaded them with a grand slam.

Thanks to the grand slam, Weber drove in five on the day while Lauer was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Derek Smail was 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.

Givran got the win in relief of Tanner Miller going three scoreless innings allowing a hit and a walk. Miller gave up five runs, two earned, on five hits and four walks while striking out two.

Ben Reynolds was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and two runs scored for St. Marys while Lucas Bauer was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.

Reynolds took the loss going 2 2/23 innings allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits and five walks while striking out one.

                          

A-C VALLEY/UNION 13, CURWENSVILLE 0, 5 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – A six-run second inning helped A-C Valley/Union to a 13-0, five-inning win over Curwensville at Stern Field in DuBois.

Trey Fleming threw a three-hit shutout for the Falcon Knights while striking out four. He needed just 54 pitches.

Adrian Schmoll and Chase Ruth each had doubles for Union/A-C Valley with Schmoll going 1-for-2 with three RBIs and Ruth going 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, and two RBIs.

Colbin Elliott was also 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Falcon Knights, and Zach Cooper went 2-for-2 with two walks, an RBI, and three runs scored.

               

Lawson Neiswender took the loss going two innings allowing nine runs, six earned, on seven hits and three walks while striking out two.

ALLEGANY-LIMESTONE (N.Y.) 9, OTTO-ELDRED 2

ALLEGANY, N.Y. – A pair of four-run innings helped Allegany-Limestone (N.Y.) to a 9-2 win over visiting Otto-Eldred.

The Gators scored four in the first and four in the fourth.

Kyree Harmon was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs for Allegany-Limestone.

Manning Splain went 2-for-4 for Otto-Eldred while Jaden Prince had an RBI.

NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD SWEEPS NORTHERN POTTER

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Outscoring visiting Northern Potter a combined 34-2 in two games, North Penn-Mansfield swept the Panthers by counts of 15-0 in four innings and 19-2 in four innings.

In Game One, Karson Dominick and Jason Harer combined to two-hit Northern Potter.

            

Both pitchers threw a pair of innings allowing a hit each. Dominick struck out three while Harer struck out one and walked one.

Riley Oakes had a double for the Tigers while going 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored, and an RBI. Cody Hermanson drove in four runs and Cooper Shaw drove in two.

Mansfield used a 12-run first inning to set up the easy win.

Ty Daniels and Wyatt Bliss had hits for Northern Potter.

In Game Two, Easton Cleveland-Pequignot, Harer, Dominick, Liam Shaut, and Cameron Caldwell each drove in two runs for Mansfield.

Noah Cady had an RBI for Northern Potter by Bliss and Blyake Risser each scored runs.
