ST. MARYS 4, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 3, 10 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – In a game in which the 10th inning may or may not have been played under PIAA rules, St. Marys broke a 2-all tie with two runs in the top of the 10th and then held off DuBois Central Catholic for a 4-3 victory.

With the game tied at two going to the 10th, the umpires told both coaches that a runner would be placed at second base ala the MLB regular-season tiebreaking rule. But subsequent investigation into that shows that may not be the rule in the PIAA.

Nevertheless, the game was played with a runner placed at second.

Joey Lease was placed at second for St. Marys and moved to third on a bunt single by Mason Nicklas.

Ben Reynolds then hit into a field’s choice with Lease out at the plate but Nicklas went to third and Reynolds to second on the play. Tysen Beimel then doubled home both runners to give the Dutch a 4-2 lead.

In DCC’s half of the inning, Aiden Snowberger was placed on second and moved to third on a Carter Himes groundout. Bryaden Fox then walked on four pitches before a Blake Pisarcik single made it 4-3. But Andrew Green and Trenton Miller both struck out to end the game.

St. Marys took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before DCC tied the game with two in the third.

Reynolds was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored for St. Marys while Snowberger was 2-for-5 with two runs scored for DCC.
