Prep Wins Wolves Classic Opener; Slippery Rock Tops Oil City; Prep Softball Rolls Powered by N. Washington Rodeo

Cathedral Prep's Andrew Costello hit a 2-run home run in Thursday's win over Show Low (Ariz.).

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Cathedral Prep scored seven runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to earn a 19-5, 6-inning win over Show Low (Ariz.) in their opening game of the Wolves Classic.

Andrew Costello helped led the offensive charge for the Ramblers, going 3-for-3 with a 2-run home run, four RBIs and four runs.

Joey Spano Jr. was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, while Jason Fultz Jr. was 3-for-5 with two runs.

Mathius Sprickman got the win for Prep, tossing 3 ⅔ shutout innings and recording seven of his 11 outs via strikeout. He allowed three hits and walked one.

Kash Perkins suffered the loss for Show Low (Ariz.) allowing seven runs in one inning of work.

                  

SLIPPERY ROCK 12, OIL CITY 4

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A 7-run second inning helped propel Slippery Rock to a 12-4 win over Oil City.

Sal Mineo helped lead the charge for the Rockets, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs.

Isaac McCandless was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, three RBIs and two runs and Jacob Kunsman and Dominick Zandi also had two hits and two RBIs apiece.

McCandless got the win, allowing three runs in three innings on four hits, striking out six and walking two. Cade Bable tossed four innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits, striking out four and walking three.

                          

Wil McMahon, Casey Ryback and Justen Dunkle all drove in a run each for Oil City.

McMahon took the loss, allowing seven earned run in his one-plus inning of work.

ALLATOONA (Ga.) 10, MCDOWELL 4

ATLANTA – Allatoona (Ga.) scored seven runs in the first inning on its way to a 10-4 win over McDowell.

Eight different players had at least one RBI for Allatoona.

               

Hayden Glover got the win, allowing one run on three hits in four innings, striking out a pair.

Evan Stranko was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for McDowell, while Carter Cross also had a pair of hits and scored a run.

Tino Musone tooke the loss, allowing seven run in his one inning of work. Ayden Burkhardt was solid in relief for the Trojans, allowing one run on five hits in four innings with one strikeout.

GRACE CHRISTIAN (Tenn.) 12, NORTHWESTERN 6

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Makai Derry, Chase Collin and Luke Huskey drove in two runs apiece to lead Grace Christian (Tenn.) to a 12-6 win over Northwestern.

The Rams scored four runs in the first, and after Northwestern rallied to take a 5-4 lead, scored five in the fourth and four more in the fifth to go up 12-5.

Brady Smith got the win, allowing two runs (one earned) in three innings, allowing five hits and striking out three.

Nick Timm, Kaleb Glasl and Garrett Eddy had two hits each for Northwestern, with Timm and Glasl each driving in a run.

Joe Schauowitsch took the loss, allowing seven runs in 3 ⅓ innings, allowing seven hits and striking out two.

            

SOFTBALL

CATHEDRAL PREP 11, EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP (N.J.) 2

EGG HARBOR TWP., N.J. – Mackenzie Moore and Addison Baldi drove in two runs each as Cathedral Prep beat Egg Harbor Township (N.J), 11-2.

The Ramblers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, scoring five more runs in the sixth inning.

Five Ramblers – Madison Simmerman, Paige Simmerman, Moore, Baldi and Camryn Chimera all had two hits each.

Madison Simmerman got the complete game win, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out nine and walking two.
