Warren Scores Win Over Prep; Franklin Tops Grove City in Battle of Defending D10 Champs; Kane, Moniteau Rally for Wins

WARREN, Pa. – Braylon Barnes scored 25 points as Warren overcame a hot shooting start by Cathedral Prep to earn a 70-62 win.

Prep scored 27 points in the first quarter and led by as many as 11, 29-18 early in the second quarter.

Trailing 37-31 at halftime, Warren went on a 19-8 run in the third quarter to go up 50-45 after the third. It was part of a bigger 40-18 run that ended with a Barnes layup with 3:30 to play in the fourth quarter that gave the Dragons a double-digit lead, 58-47.

“We just had to keep our energy going because we knew they were making a lot of shots,” Barnes said during the Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview. “We couldn’t keep our heads down. We knew they could shoot the ball.”

Barnes scored 15 of his 25 points in the second half, while Brady Berdine scored 11 of his 17 in the first half.

Nyquist was also in double figures for the Dragons with 11 points, while Logan Crissey added nine.

Prep’s Michael Thompson scored 11 of his team-high 19 points in the first quarter. Nano Mirarchi and Max Wallace added 15 points each for the Ramblers.

                          

KANE 42, YOUNGSVILLE 41

YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. – Down seven with just over a minute to play, Kane pulled off a stunning rally to beat homestanding Youngsville, 42-41.

The Wolves were down 41-34 when Brock Wensel nailed a 3-pointer to make it a four-point game.

Dane Anderson then came up with a steal and a basket while being fouled. He completed the old-school 3-point play to make it 41-40.

Another steal then led to a Connor Brown layup to put Kane ahead for good.

Anderson led the Wolves with 14 points with Brown and Wensel each adding eight points and Kyle Zook chipping in seven points.

Rylan Benton had a game-high 15 points for Youngsville, which led 33-26 going to the fourth quarter thanks to a 27-16 edge in the middle two quarters.

Nathan Lucks added nine points for the Eagles with Ethan Beer chipping in eight points.

FRANKLIN 59, GROVE CITY 52

FRANKLIN, Pa. – In a matchup of defending District 10 champions, it was Class 3A Franklin that topped Class 4A Grove City, 59-52.

                                   

Leading 44-43 going into the fourth quarter, Franklin outscored GC 15-9 over the final eight minutes.

Dreyden Payne scored six of his eight points during the fourth quarter, while Damon Curry score five of his game-high 21 in the fourth.

Jalen Wood and Cole Buckley were also in double figures for Franklin with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Nathan Greer led three Grove City players in double figures with 18 points, while Brett Loughry had 15 and Gavin Lutz 10.

MONITEAU 67, CLARION-LIMESTONE 65

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Moniteau rallied from an early 17-point deficit to beat visiting Clarion-Limestone, 67-65, in KSAC play.

The Warriors trailed 19-2 out of the gate but used a 21-10 third-quarter run to take a 51-47 lead going to the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, C-L rallied back and went ahead 64-62 on a layup by Jase Ferguson with 1:32 to play.

But Moniteau didn’t die.

Chason Delarosa-Rugg hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 1:15 left to put the Warriors ahead for good, 65-64.

Delarosa-Rugg then hit 1 of 2 free throws with 18.4 seconds left to make it 66-64 before Jack Craig went 1-for-2 from the line to make it 66-65 with 9.4 seconds left.

But Craig missed the game-tying free throw, and Rugg answered with 1 of 2 at the other end.

The Lions had two chances by Craig in the final seconds but neither went down.

Moniteau won the game at the line going 22 of 28, while C-L was just 17 of 27 from the charity stripe.

Delarosa-Rugg led the Warriors with 20 points with Andrew Zepeda adding 17 on 8 of 8 from the line. Aydan Jackson chipped in 10 points.

                                  

Ferguson, who picked up his third foul in the second quarter, led C-L with 18 points with Craig adding 17 points and Jack Callen 11 points.

SMETHPORT 47, SHEFFIELD 45

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Visiting Smethport held off a frantic last-minute rally from Sheffield to pick up a 47-45 win.

The Hubbers led 46-40 with under 50 seconds to play before Sheffield got back in the game.

A Jack Chapman jumper in the lane with just under 45 seconds left to close the gap to 46-42.

The Wolverines then got a steal on the inbounds, and Allen Eaton hit a 3-pointer from the corner to make it 46-45 with 32 seconds left.

Brentton McDowell then made one of two free throws for Smethport with 27.6 seconds left.

Following a Sheffield timeout with 23.1 to go, Dylan Harwick drove the lane only to see his layup go off the mark. Colby Barr, though, grabbed the offensive rebound and tried a putback that rattled in and out.

Cole Burdick got the rebound for Smethport and was fouled with 7.6 seconds left.

Burdick, though, missed both free throws, and the Wolverines got the rebound and pushed the ball up the court.

Hardwick’s contested three, though, from the top of the key was a little short hitting the front of the rim, and Smethport got the rebound as time ran out.

McDowell led Smethport with 17 points with Colin Okerlund adding 14 points and Burdick eight.

Leihden Wotorson had 17 points for Sheffield while Hardwick added 13 points.

FORT LEBOEUF 49, SENECA 47, overtime

WATTSBURG, Pa. – Ronan Dorler scored 17 points as Fort LeBoeuf outlasted Seneca in overtime, 49-47.

Dorler scored seven of his points during the fourth quarter and overtime, with the game tied at 36 apiece after regulation.

Carson Papay added 16 points in the win for Fort LeBoeuf.

Lucas Rupp scored 11 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead Seneca. Nolan Seabury was also in double figures for Seneca with 12 points.

BRADFORD 41, EISENHOWER 37

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – A 13-7 third-quarter edge helped Bradford top Eisenhower, 41-37, in the opening round of the Randy Stebbins Memorial Tournament at Otto-Eldred.

Chase Winberg scored six points in the third quarter and Jake Franz added five to help the Owls take a 30-25 lead at the end of the quarter.

Wineberg led Bradford with 16 points with Franz chipping in nine tallies and Brendan Warner adding eight points.

Austin Hanson had 11 points for Eisenhower with Kyler Black adding 10 points.

Bradford will take on host Otto-Eldred in the title game on Saturday, while Eisenhower will face Portville Central (N.Y.) in the consolation game.

CLARION 79, NORTH CLARION 36

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – It takes a village to get the job done for the Clarion Bobcats, and so far so good.

Clarion moved to a 3-1 on the season with a 79-36 thrashing of homestanding North Clarion, as 13 different Bobcats scored.

“We know the job can’t be done with just one guy,” senior Bryce Brinkley, who was named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game said on the Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview. “It takes a village to get this done. Our bench, and all of our starters, we all know that it isn’t going to be one (person) who does it. It is going to be the whole team that contributes to this push here to the playoffs.”

To Brinkley’s point, Clarion scored 56 first-half points despite not having one player reach double-digits in the half.

For the game, only Devon Lauer with 12 points reached double figures while Brinkley added nine points, Daunter Girvan, Tanner Miller, Gabe Simko, and Dawson Smail each chipped in eight points, and Owen Kriebel had seven points.

North Clarion, which faced the Mercy Rule the entire second half after trailing 56-25 at the break, got 17 points from Ethan Carll and eight points from Hunter Irwin.

GIRARD 73, TITUSVILLE 28

TITUSVILLE, Pa. – Ryan Carr scored 16 points to lead three Girard players in double figures in a 73-28 win over Titusville.

Kenny Godoy netted 15 points for the Yellow Jackets, while Nate Edwards added 12.

Ten different Girard players scored in the win.

Isaiah Colon had a game-high 17 points for Titusville.

ST. MARYS 66, RIDGWAY 43

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Anthony Nedzinski led four St. Marys’ players in double digits with 16 points, as the visiting Dutch rolled past Ridgway, 66-43, in AML action.

Quin Gavazzi added 15 points in the win with Matt Davis chipping in 13 and Dan Schutz 10.

Alex Merritt had a game-high 18 points for Ridgway with Jackson Kilpeck adding 11 and Hunter Beeler chipping in nine.

HARBOR CREEK 47, MERCYHURST PREP 45

HARBORCREEK, Pa. – Braylen Wilson had 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Harbor Creek outlasted Mercyhurst Prep, 47-45.

Tucker Chwatek scored 15 points to lead Harbor Creek and knocked down a pair of key free throws with 20 seconds to play to help lift the Huskies to the win.

Mercyhurst Prep trailed 33-22 going into the fourth quarter before outscoring Harbor Creek 23-14 to nearly rally for the win.

JT DelSandro was also in double figures for Harbor Creek with 12 points.

Tanner Ashton keyed the fourth quarter rally for Mercyhurst Prep, scoring 12 of his 14 points over the final eight minutes. Shaun McCausland and JJ Ganska scored seven points each for Mercyhurst Prep.

CORRY 57, CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 55

CORRY, Pa. – Corry built a 48-41 lead after three quarters and was able to hold off Cambridge Springs, 57-55.

Kamdyn Moon hit a pair of three’s in the third quarter to help Corry extend its lead. Moon finished with a team-high 18 points.

Markus Lambert, who had 13 points, hit a key triple to help Corry extend its lead to five with just over a minute to play after Cambridge Springs had got the lead down to three.

Rylan Smith finished with 16 points for Corry.

Tyler Troutman and Parker Schmidt combined to score 38 of Cambridge Springs’ points, with Troutman netting a game-high 21 and Schmidt 17. Both had five points in the fourth quarter.

Owen Riley added eight points for Cambridge Springs.

MCDOWELL 55, CHARTIERS VALLEY 52

ERIE, Pa. – Tyler Grove scored 23 points as McDowell held off Chartiers Valley, 55-52.

The Trojans built a 43-36 lead after the third quarter in the season opener and were able to hold on down the stretch.

Kamden Kramer added 18 points for the Trojans in the win.

Hayden Davis led Char Valley with 18 points.

SHARON 65, LAKEVIEW 36

SHARON, Pa. – Derek Douglas connected for 20 points as Sharon powered past Lakeview, 65-36.

Mister Ham was also in double figures for Sharon with 11 points, while Lamont Austin had nine, Santinio Piccrilli eight and Owen Schenker seven.

Keyton Urey led Lakeview with 13 points.

HICKORY 70, ERIE FIRST CHRISTIAN 49

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Trevor Borwicz and Ryan Robich scored 11 points each as Hickory toppled Erie First Christian, 70-49.

Rylan Dye was also in double figures for Hickory with 10 points. The Hornets had 12 different players score in the win.

Robich and Borowicz also had four rebounds each in the win.

GENERAL MCLANE 70, JAMESTOWN 35

JAMESTOWN, Pa. – General McLane put up 54 points in the first half in a 70-35 win over Jamestown

Greyson Rhodes led three General McLane players in double figures with 21 points, all of which came in the first half.

Cohen Beachley and Jacob Ziets were also in double figures scoring for GM with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Gage Plavansky led Jamestown with 15 points.

OTTO-ELDRED 66, PORTVILLE CENTRAL (N.Y.) 30

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Landon Francis had 20 points to help Otto-Eldred to a 66-30 win over Portville Central (N.Y.) in the opening round of the Randy Stebbins Memorial Tournament at Otto-Eldred.

Shene Thomas added 16 points in the win while Manning Splain had 11 points and Brax Caldwell 10 points.

Aiden DeFazio had 18 points for Portville.

Otto-Eldred will take on Bradford in the championship game on Saturday, while Portville will face Eisenhower in the consolation game.

GALETON 56, WILLIAMSON 47

GALETON, Pa. – Corey Anderson scored 27 points to lead Galeton to a 56-47 win over Williamson in the opening round of the Galeton Tournament.

Galeton will face Canton in the title game while Williamson plays Austin in the consolation game. Both of those are on Saturday.

CANTON 42, AUSTIN 39

GALETON, Pa. – Brayden Vroman and Ben Fitch each scored 11 points to lead Canton to a 42-39 win over Austin in the opening round of the Galeton Tournament.

Dawson Hooftallen led Austin with 20 points while Brennan Ogden chipped in 10 points.

CONNEAUT 67, UNION CITY 42

LINESVILLE, Pa. Shakiir Jordan and Alex Brady combined for 41 points as Conneaut notched a 67-42 win over Union City.

Jordan scored 22 points, 18 of which came in the second half, while Brady had 19 points, 13 of which came in the first half.

Tristan Shealatz was also in double figures for CASH with 14 points.

Trent Parkhurst led Union City with 13 points, while Bradley VanTassel added 11.

REYNOLDS 57, WILMINGTON 29

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Reynolds went on a 22-3 run in the second quarter on its way to a 57-29 win over Wilmington.

Zavier Zachrich and Andrew McCloskey combined for 47 points, with Zachrich scoring 25 points and McCloskey 22.

Will Bruckner led Wilmington with 17 points.

UNION 57, VENANGO CATHOLIC 34

RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Trent Fleming had 15 points to help Union to a 57-34 win over visiting Venango Catholic.

Max Johnson added nine points for the Golden Knights with Hayden Smith adding eight points. Dawson Camper grabbed 10 rebounds for Union and added six points.

Konnor Beichner had 23 points for Venango Catholic.

SLIPPERY ROCK 63, COCHRANTON 27

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock went on a 22-6 run in the first quarter and never looked back in a 63-27 win over Cochranton.

Josh Book led three Rockets in double figures with 16 points, while Levi Prementine had 14 and Braden King 10.

Gavin Sekerski and Brady Rynd had six points each for Cochranton.

CURWENSVILLE 69, ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC ACADEMY 45

BOALSBURG, Pa. – Parker Wood scored 24 points to lead visiting Curwensville to a 69-45 win over St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy.

Louie Tkacik added 15 points for the Golden Tide while Davis Fleming had 10 points.

DUBOIS 81, JOHNSONBURG 65

DUBOIS, Pa. – Cam Thompson and Maddox Bennett each topped 20 points to lead DuBois to an 81-65 win over visiting Johnsonburg.

Thompson netted a season-high 26 points with Bennett adding 22. Tyson Kennis, in his season debut, chopped in 19 points, and Rudy Williams also scored 10 points for DuBois.

Isaiah Jackson had 20 points for Johnsonburg with Luke Zimmerman adding 15 and Eric Hoffman 10.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 57, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 38

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Noah Weaver scored 18 points to lead Punxsutawney to a 57-38 win over visiting DuBois Central Catholic.

Jimmie Neese added 11 points for the Chucks with Noah Kenergsky and Beau Thomas each adding nine points.

Andrew Green led DCC with 18 points with Marek Hoyt adding 10 points.

ERIE 56, SHADY SIDE ACADEMY 46

ERIE, Pa. – Jaheim Mims scored 17 points as Erie picked up a 56-46 win over Shady Side Academy.

Jamarius Johnson added 12 points in the win for the Royals.

Eli Teslovich led Shady Side with 19 points.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 66, COUDERSPORT 19

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Ten different Elk County Catholic players scored led by 18 points from Wil Wortman in a 66-19 win over visiting Coudersport.

Timmy Brannock added 14 points for the Crusaders while Colby Nussbaum chipped in 10 points.

Mason Roesner led Coudersport with eight points.

MEADVILLE 69, FAIRVIEW 49

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Leading 36-34 at halftime, Lucas Luteran and Jack Burchard led a huge second half for Meadville in a 69-49 win over Fairview.

The Bulldogs went o a 24-9 run in the third quarter to take complete control of the game.

Luteran and Burchard were the catalysts, combining for 53 points, with Luteran scoring 27 and Burchard 26.

The duo combined to make eight shots from distance in the win.

Vinny Campoli led Fairview with 14 points, while Archie Murphey added 10.

REDBANK VALLEY 70, CRANBERRY 46

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Mason Clouse had 21 points to lead Redbank Valley to a 70-46 win over visiting Cranberry in the season opener for the Bulldogs.

Breckin Minich added 15 points while Ty Carrier chipped in 10.

Landon Baker and Cole Findlay each had 10 points for Cranberry.

A-C VALLEY 60, FOREST AREA 21

FOXBURG, Pa. – Jay Clover and Zah Levins each had double-doubles to lead A-C Valley to a 60-21 win over visiting Forest Area.

Clover had 16 points and 14 rebounds and Levins added 10 points and 17 rebounds.

Brody Dittman chipped in eight points and Joe Rapp and Henry Stevanus both chipped in seven points.

Colton Kuntz led Forest Area with eight points.

IROQUOIS 84, COMMODORE PERRY 32

HADLEY, Pa. – Kellen Burroughs scored 17 points to lead Iroquois to an 84-32 win over Commodore Perry.

Orlando Brown had 13 points for Iroquois, Cajohn Howard 12 and Roman Caporale 11. Ten different Iroquois players scored in the win.

Kyle Stringert and Xavier Williams had 10 points each for Commodore Perry

KARNS CITY 68, KEYSTONE 30

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Double-doubles from Taite Beighley and Luke Cramer helped Karns City roll past visiting Keystone, 68-30.

Beighley had 16 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds, and two steals with Cramer adding 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Dom Corcetti had 11 points for Keystone with Drew Keth chipping in 10 points.

NESHANNOCK 59, BROOKVILLE 56

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – A late Brookville rally fell just short in a 59-56 loss at Neshannock in a rematch of a PIAA Class 3A second-round game won by the Lancers a year ago.

The Raiders trailed by 15 early in the third quarter before rallying to make it a game.

Jack Pete, who was in first-half foul trouble, led Brookville with 15 points with Kellan Haines and Carter Mackins each adding 10 points.

Jake Rynd had a game-high 17 points for Neshannock.

GREATER JOHNSTOWN 70, CLEARFIELD 35

HYDE, Pa. – Amire Robinson tickled the twine for 29 points to lead visiting Greater Johnstown to a 70-35 win over Clearfield.

Braison Patrick had 21 points for the Bison.

BENTON 52, NORTHERN POTTER 41

BENTON, Pa. – Graydon Beishline scored a game-high 23 points to lead Benton past visiting Northern Potter, 52-41.

Nolen Smith had 15 points for Northern Potter with Ty Daniels and Malachi Lewis each adding eight points.
