WATERFORD, Pa. – The Fort LeBoeuf wrestling team had quite the postseason.

After a hard-fought 38-28 loss to Reynolds in the D10 2A dual championship match, the Bison made a run all the way to the PIAA final.

The Bison did, however, win the team titles at the D10 indvidual championships, as well as the Northwest Regional.

               

Fort LeBoeuf raced out to a 22-0 lead and got three wins by decision and three more by major decision on its way to a 33-24 win over District 4 champion Warrior Run in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A wrestling championships.

Opening the match at 172, Connor McChesney got a 12-4 major decision over Isaiah Bertz, followed by a 3-2 decision victory by Ryan Welka at 189, a Danny Church forfeit win at 215, while John Duran got a first-period pin over Hunter Hauck at 285 and Brady Bowers a 7-1 decision over Cohen Zechman.

The Bison went on to get wins from Jake Bennett via a 16-6 major decision over Gavin Hunter at 121, an 8-1 win by JoJo Przybycien over Samuel Hall at 133, and a 10-2 major decision victory from Brody Beers at 152.

The Bison earned a 34-28 win over Chestnut Ridge and followed that up with a 31-23 win over Burgettstown in the semis to advance to the championship match.

The win against WPIAL champion Burgettstown was punctuated by a Connor McChesney pin at 172 to close out the match. The Bison led 25-23 going into the final bout after Burgettstown’s Rudy Brown got a pin at 160.

The Bison won the first four weight classes, a 14-5 major decision by Welka at 189, followed by a pin from John Duran at 215, and a 6-4 decision by Bowers at 107. Also included in that run was a 6-4 decision from Church at 285, the 100th victory of his career.

LeBoeuf led 22-8 after decision victories by Cuic at 127 and Przybycien at 133. Brody Beers earned a 4-3 decision at 152 before Brown’s pin.

The quarterfinal win over Chesnut Ridge had a similar pattern as, after Samuel Albright won via decision to open the match at 160, the Bison rattled off four straight wins courtesy of McChesney (11-3 major decision at 160), Welka (7-3 decision at 189), Church (42-second pin at 215) and Duran (38-second pin at 285).

            

Cuic also got a pin at 127 as did Jackson Bowers at 145, while Przybycien earned a 7-1 decision at 139.

The Bison lost 54-12 to Faith Christian for the state title, ending a special team run.
