Run to the Finals: Fort LeBoeuf to Wrestle for PIAA Class 2A Gold; Brookville Stays Alive Powered by Luton’s Plumbing, Heating, A/C

HERSHEY, Pa. – From second in District 10 to the state finals.

                        

Fort LeBoeuf will wrestle for a PIAA Class 2A championship on Saturday after wins over Chesnut Ridge in the quarterfinals and Burgettstown in the semifinals.

The Bison earned a 34-28 win over Chestnut Ridge and followed that up with a 31-23 win over Burggettstown in the semis to advance to the championship match. They will meet District 1 champion Faith Christian, a 40-15 winner over Berks Catholic in the semis.

The final is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The win against WPIAL champion Burgettstown was punctuated by a Connor McChesney pin at 172 to close out the match. The Bison led 25-23 going into the final bout after Burgettstown’s Rudy Brown got a pin at 160.

                              

The Bison won the first four weight classes, a 14-5 major decision by Ryan Welka at 189, followed by a pin from John Duran at 215, and a 6-4 decision by Brady Bowers at 107. Also included in that run was a 6-4 decision from Danny Church at 285, the 100th victory of his career.

LeBoeuf led 22-8 after decision victories by Noah Cuic at 127 and JoJo Przybycien at 133. Brody Beers earned a 4-3 decision at 152 before Brown’s pin.

The quarterfinal win over Chesnut Ridge had a similar pattern as, after Samuel Albright won via decision to open the match at 160, the Bison rattled off four straight wins courtesy of McChesney (11-3 major decision at 160), Welka (7-3 decision at 189), Church (42-second pin at 215) and Duran (38-second pin at 285).

Cuic also got a pin at 127 as did Jackson Bowers at 145, while Przybycien earned a 7-1 decision at 139.

BROOKVILLE STILL ALIVE

Following a 30-19 loss to Berks Catholic in the quarterfinals, the Brookville Raiders bounced back with a 27-26 win over Warrior Run in the second-round consolation.

The Raiders built a 27-9 lead over Warrior Run and would have tied at 27, but Warrior Run was penalized a point. The Raiders would have advanced regardless, however, based on the tiebreaker of most bouts won.

Easton Belfiore (5-4), Gavin Hannah (5-1), and Jackson Zimmerman (6-0) opened the match with decision wins for the Raiders at 172, 189, and 215, while Baily Miller followed with a first-period pin to make it 15-0.

Jared Popson won via a 4-2 decision at 114 for the Raiders, while Cole Householder got a 3-1 decision in sudden victory at 127 over Tyler Ulrich, followed by a Brecken Cielseki first-period fall at 133.

The Raiders actually won the first three bouts in the quarterfinal matchup against Berks Catholic, as Coyha Brown got a 15-4 major decision at 160, followed by a Belifore 7-5 decision at 172 and a 4-2 decision from Hannah at 189.

                           

Zimmerman fell 4-2 in sudden victory, but Miller came back with a 1-0 decision at 285.

Berks Catholic grapplers responded with a forfeit, major decision, and pin, however.

Householder also earned a 5-0 decision at 127 and Anthony Ceriani a 6-4 sudden victory at 139 for the Raiders.

Brookville will meet Notre Dame-Green Pond in the third-round consolations on Saturday.

REYNOLDS BOWS OUT IN 2A, CATHEDRAL PREP IN 3A

After losing its opener to Faith Christian, Reynolds bowed out with a 36-30 loss to Huntingdon on Friday.

Reynolds got four pins courtesy of Jalen Wagner at 172, Brayden McCloskey at 215, Chase Bell at 133, and Tino Gentile at 139, the latter of which tied the match at 30-all before Huntingdon’s Grady Clark won by pin to end it at 145.

Angelo Lomonte also won via a 4-0 decision at 107 for the Raiders, while Waylon Waite earned a 9-4 decision at 114.

Prep, meanwhile, dropped a 39-20 decision to Chambersburg in the first-round consolation after falling to Spring-Ford in the opening round on Thursday.

Brandon Byrd got a first-period pin for the Ramblers at 139, while Bo Martucci won by tech fall at 152.

Also for the Ramblers, Jaden Crockett (160), Keagan Oler (121), and Sam Staab (133) all won by decision.
