Sept. 29, 2020 Golf, Tennis Recaps: Swan, North East Win Meadville Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. – North East’s Lydia Swann shot a 73 to help the Pickers edge Hickory, 230-231 for first place at the Meadville Invitational.

Anna Swan shot 73 for North East and McKenzie Gustas 75 for Hickory.

The Hornets’McKenzie Gustas and Sasha Petrochko shot 75 and 77, respectively.

TENNIS

HICKORY 5, OIL CITY 0

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Daphne Borowicz (6-0, 6-1), Isabella Frangakis (6-3, 6-1) and Nicolette Leonard (6-2, 6-1) won their single matches over Payton Bunk, Emily Russell and Kayla DeShazo, respectively, as Hickory beat Oil City, 5-0.

The doubles teams of Abbie Bender-Ava Spielvogle (6-2, 6-1) and Nora Logue (6-2, 6-0) were also victorious for the Hornets.

MCDOWELL 4, FAIRVIEW 1

ERIE, Pa. – Brooke Lowrey (6-2, 6-0) and Nabiah Bhatti (6-1, 6-1) both won singles matches as McDowell topped Fairview, 4-1.

At No. 1 singles, Fairview’s Trinity Fox edged Samatha Becker (7-5, 1-6 6-3).

McDowell won both doubles’ matches.

GROVE CITY 4, SHARON 1

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Jane Coulter (6-1, 6-1), Macy Matson (6-0, 6-0) and Abby Aument (6-2, 6-1) all won their singles matches to send Grove City past Sharon.

The doubles team of Katie Feng-Cara Severson was a 6-3, 6-2 as well for GC.
