Sept. 15, 2022 D9 Volleyball Recaps: ECC Sweeps Sheffield; Bradford Tops Punxsy; Reynolds Gets Win

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Tori Newton, Reagan Bauer, and Madison Marzullo led visiting Elk County Catholic to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-12) win over Sheffield.

Newton led the Lady Crusaders with 10 kills with Bauer adding eight kills, six aces, and a block, and Marzullo seven kills and three blocks.

Bauer was named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Match and talked about the win.

            

Kassidy Orinko had eight kills, three blocks, and 13 digs for Sheffield with Emily Foster chipping in six digs and four blocks. Peyton Wotorson also picked up nine digs, and Lexi Goldthwaite served three aces.

Kadence Steffan ran the Lady Wolverines offense with 12 set assists and completed a double-double with 12 digs.

REYNOLDS 3, MERCER 0

MERCER, Pa. – Rylee Gearhart had six kills, six aces, three digs, and an ace to lift Reynolds to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-19) win at Mercer.

                          

Ava Murcko added four kills and two aces for the Raiders with Marissa Hillyer also recording four kills to go with seven digs. Addie Floch had four aces, and Annie Loposky had a strong overall match with 12 set assists, five digs, three aces, and two kills.

OSWAYO VALLEY 3, SMETHPORT 0

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Praylan Perkins and Olivia Cook each had nine kills to lead visiting Oswayo Valley to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-17) win over Smethport.

Perkins added 12 digs and a set assist with Cook chipping in eight digs, four blocks, and three set assists.

Avaree Kellert also had four kills, five digs, two blocks, and 23 set assists with Eva West adding three kills and a dig.

Alyn Thomas had four kills and two blocks for Smethport with Kaylee Swanson adding three kills and three digs and Baylee Fitzsimmons had 10 digs. Madi Faes ran the Lady Hubbers offense with 10 set assists.

BRADFORD 3, PUNXSUTAWNEY 2

BRADFORD< Pa. – Lydia Sarnoski and Emma Tyger each had five kills to help Bradford to a big 3-2 (25-20, 26-24, 16-25, 12-25, 15-13) home win over Punxsutawney.

Kalie Dixon ran the offense for the Lady Owls with 14 set assists with Sarnoski coming up big at the net with three blocks. Maddie Dougherty paced the Bradford defense with six digs, and Taylor Gigliotti added five digs.

Ciara Toven had a match-high 15 kills for Punxsutawney with Samantha Griebel adding seven kills and 19 digs and Zoey Hoover four kills. Sydney Hoffman paced the Lady Chucks on defense with 18 digs while adding three aces, and Lexi Poole had six aces.

                        

Danielle Griebel ran the Punxsutawney offense with 29 set assists.

WEST MIDDLESEX 3, JAMESTOWN 0

JAMESTOWN, Pa. – A strong match from Kennedy Beatty helped visiting West Middlesex top Jamestown, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-12).

Beatty recorded 12 kills, six blocks, five aces, and five digs.

Emma Mild added six kills and 12 digs for the Big Red with Avery Hanahan pacing the defense with 19 digs. Alaina Bowers also had 11 digs and added four aces, and Lexi Babcock had four aces. Izzy D’Onofrio contributed 14 digs.

         

Caitlin Stephens ran the offense for West Middlesex with 20 set assists and chipped in six aces.

Madilyn had four kills and 13 digs for Jamestown with Josie Pfaff contributing three kills, two aces, and seven digs. Madison Bercis added 11 digs and two aces, and Hannah Hart had three kills.

Taylor Keener ran the offense for the Muskies with nine set assists and added a block and a dig.

KANE 3, BROCKWAY 0

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Cora Jekielek had 11 kills and three aces to lift Kane to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-11) road win over Brockway.

Mia Anderson and Mackenzie Blakenship each added six kills with Anderson also coming up with five blocks and Blankenship getting four blocks.

Myka Costanzo contributed nine digs and May Smith eight, while Jayna Johnson ran the offense for the Lady Wolves with 18 set assists and also had a block and a kill.

GENERAL MCLANE 3, FAIRVIEW 1

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Visiting General McLane beat Fairview, 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-22).

Bailey Cannon and Elaine Corwin each had 14 kills for the Lancers with Lilli Mook adding 11. Corwin and Mook completed double-doubles with Corwin recording 10 digs and Mook 18. Mook also had two aces.

Rachel LeSuer also had 13 digs for General McLane, and Abby Ball ran the offense with 46 set assists.

Emma Willow led Fairview with 12 kills and seven blocks, Abby Zablotny had eight kills and 13 digs, and Maddie Weber chipped in five blocks.

Paige Wingerter ran the offense for the Tigers with 25 set assists.

GALETON 3, AUSTIN 1

AUSTIN, Pa. – After missing a game early this week, Alli Macensky returned to record nine kills, three digs, a block, and an assist in Galeton’s 3-1 (25-27, 25-22, 25-23, 25-17) road win over Austin.

Olivia Rohrbaugh also had nine kills, 16 digs, six aces, and two set assists for the Lady Tigers, while Johanna Dickerson had 14 set assists, 11 digs, six aces, seven kills, and three blocks. Eve Cole also added six kills, six digs, and five aces.

Marcy Crowell helped run the Galeton offense with 16 set assists and contributed 10 digs and two kills. Addy Reigle had 13 digs.

Isabella Rees had seven kills and four blocks for Austin with Jade Williams adding six kills, six aces, and seven digs.

Ella Brewer paced the defense for Austin with 25 digs and added four aces, and Marah Fowler ran the offense with 20 set assists.

Sixteen missed served hurt the Lady Panthers.

ROCKY GROVE 3, KENNEDY CATHOLIC 1

HERMITAGE, Pa. – A 10-kill, 10-ace double-double from Katie Beggs helped Rocky Grove pick up a 3-1 (25-9, 22-25, 25-11, 25-20) win over Kennedy Catholic.

Courtney Clark added six kills and four aces for the Orioles who also got six kills from Natalie Sloss, five digs from Delana Pyle, four kills and four digs from Abby Cable, four kills from Paige Cresswell, two blocks and two kills from Josie Seely, and five digs from Kaidlynn Burger.

A-C VALLEY 3, NORTH CLARION 0

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Visiting A-C Valley had little trouble at North Clarion with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-15) win.

Lexi Ruckdeschel led the Lady Falcons with 14 kills, 14 digs, and six blocks. Bella Ielase chipped in eight kills, and Mackenzie Parks and Hanna Ithen each added four kills. Parks also had 12 digs.

Keira McVay contributed 11 digs on defense for A-C Valley, and Jenna Stefanacci ran the offense with 17 set assists.

Makenzie Lupole had 12 kills, six digs, and two blocks for North Clarion with Kyler Freeman adding nine kills and seven digs. Kylie Disney recorded 25 digs, and Ainsley Hartle ran the North Clarion offense with 26 set assists.

MEADVILLE 3, FORT LEBOEUF 0

WATERFORD, Pa. – Emma Parks had 17 kills and seven digs to help visiting Meadville to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-21) win over Fort LeBoeuf.

Kendall Mealy had six kills and eight digs, and Ellie Kellick contributed six kills.

Elliott Schleicher ran the offense for the Bulldogs with 25 set assists and added five digs.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 3, RIDGWAY 1

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Kayley Risser had six kills and six aces to help DuBois Central Catholic to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-22) win over Ridgway.

Lydia Morgan added six kills for the Lady Cardinals who also got three kills and three aces from Jessy Frank.

MAPLEWOOD 3, YOUNGSVILLE 0

YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. – Elizabeth Hunter had eight kills to help Maplewood to a 3-0 (25-5, 25-5, 25-7) road win over Youngsville.

Sadie Thomas added six kills for the Tigers, while Bailey Varndell ran the offense with 24 set assists and served seven aces.

COUDERSPORT 3, NORTHERN POTTER 0

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Sierra Myers and Ava Wahlers each had eight kills to lift Coudersport to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-19) home win over Northern Potter.

Myers also added a block, and Wahlers had a block and two aces. Emilee Ruter led the Lady Falcons defense with 25 digs while adding three aces, and Hallie Rigas has 15 digs.

Sarah Risser had 11 digs and four kills for Northern Potter with Haylee Chapman chipping in six digs, four aces, and four kills and Kayden Brown 10 digs, four set assists, and two kills.

SAEGERTOWN 3, TITUSVILLE 0

SAEGERTOWN, Pa. – Lindsey Greco had 19 set assists and three aces to help lead a 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-18) home sweep for Saegertown over Titusville.

Brywn McLaughlin led the Panthers with 10 kills with Alyssa Arblaster adding four kills and eight digs. Rylie Braymer also had six digs and seven aces.

DUBOIS 3, KARNS CITY 0

DUBOIS, Pa. – Emma Delp and Jess Pfaff combined for 19 kills in DuBois’ 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 26-24) win over visiting Karns City.

Delp had 11 kills and Pfaff eight. Pfaff also recorded 10 digs, as did Gabby Gulvas. Morgan Pasternak added six kills and two aces with Gulvas and Delp also recording a pair of aces.

Emily Snyder ran the Lady Beavers offense with 26 set assists.

Ava Fox had five kills and nine digs for Karns City with Nicole Taylor contributing four set assists, three digs, and three aces. Rosalie Carden also had four set assists, five digs, and two aces, and Jessica Dunn had eight digs.

KEYSTONE 3, MONITEAU 1

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Keystone overcame a slow start to knock off Moniteau, 3-1 (20-25, 25-13, 25-15, 25-16).

Leah Exley led the Lady Panthers with 12 kills while finishing a double-double with 11 digs and adding three aces.

Reagan Mays ran the offense for Keystone with 17 set assists to go along with nine digs and five aces. Natalie Bowser contributed 12 set assists, seven kills, and three blocks.

OTTO-ELDRED 3, CAMERON COUNTY 0

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Katie Sheeler and Carrie Drummond combined for 25 kills, nine digs, and seven aces to lift Otto-Eldred to a 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-15) win over visiting Cameron County.

Sheeler had 13 kills, five aces, and three digs, and Drummond added 12 kills, six digs, and two aces.

Also for the Lady Terrors, Brooke Close added five digs and four aces.

Caitlyn Palumbo had eight kills for Cameron County with Navaeh adding six kills and Aubree Lorenzo five kills and three aces.

MOUNT UNION 3, CURWENSVILLE 0

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Visiting Mount Union swept Curwensville, 3-0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-17).

Savannah Carfley had seven set assists for Curwensville with Jorja Fleming adding four kills and two blocks, Alissa Gallaher also had four digs.

FRANKLIN 3, SHARON 1

SHARON, Pa. – Franklin picked up a 3-1 (25-9, 22-25, 25-12, 25-18) road win over Sharon.

Jamie Blum led Franklin with 10 kills while Sophia Rondinelli had 32 digs and Gabby LaJeunesse 21 digs.

Kylee Hasan had five kills and five blocks for Sharon with Ondrea Young adding five kills. Kylie Weirick (7 set assists) and Emmalie Yobe (8 set assists) ran the Tigers offense with Weirick also adding six digs.

Franklin stats weren’t available.

CONNEAUT (OHIO 3, HARBOR CREEK 2

CONNEAUT, Ohio – Conneaut (Ohio) tool home a 3-2 win over visiting Harbor Creek.

Sam Zank had 13 kills and 10 digs for Harbor Creek with Olivia Swinarski adding 12 kills and Kassie Sanders 11 digs.

Talon King (20 set assists) and Addison Lucas (11 set assists) ran the offense for the Huskies.

ST. MARYS 3, BROOKVILLE 0

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Using 21 aces, St. Marys downed Brookville, 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-22) in Brookville.

Lindsey Reiter had 10 aces, Bella Field added six, and Rylee Nicklas had four.

Reiter also had six kills with Nicklas chipping in five and Field four. Olivia Smith also had five kills.

Reiter (12 set assists) and Nicklas (7 set assists) ran the offense for the Lady Dutch, while Kara Hanslovan and Jianna Gerg combined for 44 digs to pace the defense.
