The Bulldogs (15-1) trailed 41-40 with 1:38 to play in the third quarter following an Andrew Green basket.

But Redbank Valley ended the quarter on a 4-0 spurt that was finished with a Jaxon Huffman layup with 1.9 seconds left to head into the fourth quarter ahead, 44-41.

Kieran Fricko then scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to push the lead to eight, 49-41, and by the time Ty Carrier scored with 2:40 to play in the game the Bulldog lead was 12, 53-41.

DCC (10-7), which went 7:10 without a point, finally broke the ice with a Brayden Fox bucket with 2:28 to play but it was a little too late for the Cardinals.

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Punxsutawney survived a wild final six seconds to beat visiting Karns City, 49-46.

The Chucks (8-7) looked in firm control of the game when Cooper Hallman hit one of two free throws with 12.0 seconds left to put them up four, 49-45.

But then Hallman committed the cardinal sin of fouling Taite Beighley as he took a 3-pointer for Karns City (11-6) with 5.9 seconds left.

Beighley made the first free throw to cut the deficit to 49-46 but missed the second one. He then missed the third one on purpose, and Karns CIty got exactly what they wanted.

Cole Johnston tipped the rebound to Shane Peters who fed it out to Hobie Bartoe for a wide-open 3-pointer with just over four seconds left. But Bartoe’s shot was way off the mark hitting to the side of the rim, and Beau Thomas was able to tip the rebound out of Peter’s hands to seal the victory.

Punxsutawney led 37-30 going to the fourth quarter only to watch Karns City open the quarter with a 9-3 run to get within one, 40-39 on a basket by Luke Cramer. But Cramer missed the “and one” that would have tied the game.

Five Noah Kengersky points, three from the line, then pushed the Chuck lead back to five, 46-41, with 2:45 to play.

But Johnston hit two free throws and Peters scored to cut the deficit to 46-5 with 1:44 to go.

Two more Kengersky free throws with 17.4 seconds left followed by the charity shot by Hallman then had the lead back to 49-45 before the ending sequence.

Kengersky had a big night for Punxsutawney with 21 points while Thomas added 13.

Peters had 15 for Karns City with Jacob Callihan adding 11 and Beighley eight.
