Base: Clearfield Hands Defening 4A State Champion Bellefonte Second Loss; Coudy, Brockway, Cameron Co. Get One-Run Wins powered by N. Washington Rodeo

HYDE, Pa. – In a game that saw all the runs scored by the fourth inning, Clearfield edged visiting Bellefonte, the defending PIAA Class 4A champion, 5-4.

It was just the second loss of the season for the Red Raiders, who saw their seven-game win streak end. The only other loss for Bellefonte was to defending PIAA 2A champion Bald Eagle Area.

The game was tied at four after two innings after Bellefonte scored one in the first and three in the second and Clearfield scored two in the first and two in the second.

The Bison broke the tie in the fourth inning on a Cole Bloom sacrifice fly that scored Elijah Quick, who had walked leading off the inning.

                  

Bellefonte’s best chance to tie the game or take the lead came in the sixth when the Red Raiders had the bases loaded with two outs following an intentional walk to Trevor Johnson, which came with runners on first and second. Johnson had homered twice previously in the game while going 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, and three RBIs.

But Christian Welker got Peyton Vancas to ground into a fielder’s choice with third baseman O’Brian Owens going to second base for the forceout on Johnson.

Bellefonte then put the first two batters on in the seventh thanks to a single and a hit batter, but Welker struck out the next three batters to preserve the win.

Welker got the save in relief of Hunter Rumsky going two scoreless innings allowing a hit, two walks, and two hit batters while striking out four.

Rumsky got the win going five innings allowing four runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out nine.

                          

Kamden Kushner hit a home run for Clearfield, a two-run, game-tying shot with no one out in the second.

Vancas took the loss in relief of Braedyn Kormanic going three innings allowing one earned run on a hit and a walk while striking out three.

Kormanic pitched three innings giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out two.

COUDERSPORT 2, OTTO-ELDRED 1

ELDRED, Pa. – Quinn Kratzer scored from third in the top of the seventh on a ball hit by Viggo Brown that was mishandled by Otto-Eldred pitcher Jared Obernrader, and Coudersport edged the Terrors, 2-1.

               

Kratzer reached on an error on shortstop Manning Splain to start the inning and went to second on a single by Dylan Howard before moving up 90 feet on a sac bunt by Warren Nelson.

Brown then laid down a bunt that Obernrader couldn’t handle leading to the go-ahead run.

Gavyn Ayers then shut down the Terrors in the bottom of the inning by striking out the side to earn the save.

Mason Roessner got the win going six innings allowing one earned run on six hits, two walks, and a hit batter while striking out nine.

Roessner was locked in a pitcher’s dual with Obenrader who went seven innings in the loss allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out seven. Obenrader needed just 85 pitches thanks to 65 strikes.

Shane Macgree was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Otrto-Eldred, while Kratzer was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for Coudersport.

BROCKWAY 5, KANE 4

MT. JEWETT, Pa. – Brockway scored three times in the top of the seventh to stun Kane, 5-4.

The Rovers trailed 4-2 going to the seventh before an error, a walk, and an error got them within a run.

            

After Brock Wensel struck out GXX Park looking for the second out, Matt Brubaker walked to load the bases, and Andrew Brubaker delivered a go-ahead two-run single to center.

Chad Young, who came on for Andrew Brubaker in the second, then closed the door to pick up the win.

Young went 5 ⅓ innings in relief allowing one unearned run on two hits and three walks.

Andrew Brubaker led the Rover offense going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Dane Anders was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for Kane.

Wensel took the loss in relief of Phinn Chamberlain going three innings allowing three unearned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two.

Chamberlain went four innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and a walk while striking out two.

CAMERON COUNTY 9, PORT ALLEGANY 8

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – A wild pitch and a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh helped Cameron County break a 7-all tie, and the Red Raiders held off a Port Allegany rally in the bottom of the seventh for a 9-8 victory.

The win helps solidify a potential playoff spot for the Red Raiders, who need one win in their final three games to finish over .500.

With the game tied at seven, Ryan Shaffer scampered home on a wild pitch and Treyton Tucker hit a sacrifice fly that scored Maddox Baughman to put Cameron County ahead, 9-7.

Port Allegany got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Jacon Causer singled to center, but Gavin Moses grounded into a fielder’s choice to end the game.

Jake Narby and Jesop Farabaugh each drove in two runs for Cameron County.

Narby was 2-fo-3 with a walk and a run scored with Farabaugh going 1-for-4.

Shaffer also scored three runs while going 2-for-2 with three walks, while Anthony Mastriania was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and a run scored, and Bo Pearsall was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Shaffer got the win in relief of Josh Beer going two innings allowing two runs, one earned, on a hit, a walk, and a hit batter.

Beer pitched five innings allowing six runs, two earned, on nine hits, two walks, and a hit batter while striking out four.

Port Allegany, which saw its four-game win streak halted, got three hits from Kellen Veilleux, who was 3-for-4 with a double an RBI, and two runs scored.

DXX Smith also went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and Moses was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.

Nick Wilfong, the third of three Port Allegany pitchers, took the loss going 4 ⅓ innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits, two walks, and a hit batter while striking out six.

BROOKVILLE 9, DUBOIS 6

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Brookville stayed hot winning for the third time in four games with a 9-6 victory over visiting DuBois at McKinley Field in Brookville.

Owen Fleming drove in three runs for the Raiders, who beat DuBois for the second time in five days, while Carter Kessler had three hits.

Fleming was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk with Kessler going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Sergio Sotillio added a double while going 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs, and three runs scored, while Kai Kaltenbach was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored, and two RBIs.

Ladd Blake also went 2-for-3.

Fleming got the win allowing six runs, five earned, on nine hits and three walks while striking out six.

Sotillo got the save going a ⅓ of an inning striking out one.

Trey Wingard went 1-for3- with a home run, a walk, a run scored, and an RBI for DuBois while Tycen Roy was 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.

Samson Deeb also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Beavers.

Grady Galicznski took the loss for DuBois allowing six earned runs on seven hits and a walk in1 ⅓ innings of work.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC SWEEPS JOHNSONBURG

DUBOIS, Pa. – DuBois Central Catholic rolled to a pair of wins over visiting Johnsonburg at Stern Field in DuBois.

The Cardinals took Game One 16-3 in five innings and Game Two 11-1 in five innings sending the Rames to their eighth consecutive defeat after starting the season 6-1.

In the opener, Aiden Snowberger hit a home run while going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, while Brayden Fox doubled twice going 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and two RBIs.

Trent Miller and Brayden Zatsick each drove in three runs as well with Miller going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored and Zatsick going 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Blake Pisarcik added a double and two RBIs while going 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored, and Carter Himes was 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI.

Johnny Varischetti scored three times in the victory.

Himes got the win going five innings allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits and four walks while striking out eight.

Luke Zimmerman was 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for Johnsonburg with Eric Hoffman going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Derek Beimel took the loss going 3 ⅓ innings allowing nine runs, eight earned, on eight hits, two hit batters, and six walks while striking out three.

In the nightcap, Pisarcik shutdown the Ram bats going five innings of three-hit ball. He allowed one earned run while walking two and striking out seven. He threw 48 of his 64 pitches for strikes.

Pirarcik helped himself with a home run while going 2-for-2 with a walk, three runs scored, and three RBIs.

Andrew Green also drove in three runs going 1-for-3 with a double, while Snowberger was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and three runs scored.

Zimmerman was 1-for-1 with an RBI for Johnsonburg with Isaiah Jackson going 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Jackson took the loss going three innings allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on seven hits, three walks, and three hit batters. He struck out four.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 14, BRADFORD 1, 6 INNINGS

BRADFORD, Pa. – Nevin Day and Coy Martino combined on a six-hitter as Punxsutawney went on the road and beat Bradford, 14-1, in six innings.

Martino got the win going three innings allowing a hit and three walks while striking out five.

Day got the save going three innings allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out five.

Day had a big day at the plate going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and three RBIs.

Brody Stouffer went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and three RBIs for the Chucks.

Anthony Lama was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI for Bradford.

Brody Haviland took the loss going 2 ⅔ innings allowing four runs, one earned, on a hit and three walks while striking out one.

CLARION 18, KEYSTONE 2, 5 INNINGS

KNOX, Pa. – Tanner Miller and Noah Harrison combined for nine RBIs, as Clarion rolled past Keystone, 18-2, in five innings in Knox.

Miller was 3-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and five RBIs, and Harrison was 2-of-3 with a double, a walk, three runs scored, and four RBIs.

Bryce Brinkley, Devon Lauer, and Hayden Weber each drove in two runs with Brinkley going 1-for-2 with three walks and three runs scored, Lauer going 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored, and Weber going 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Matt Alston got the win going three innings allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out two.

Aidan Tharan was 3-for-3 with a double for Keystone while Brady Dunlap went 1-for-1 with an RBI, and Gabe Demmer was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.

Chaz Renninger took the loss going 2 ⅔ innings allowing eight earned runs on four hits and 11 walks while striking out four.

MONITEAU 12, CRANBERRY 5

SENECA, Pa. – Scoring six runs in the first inning, visiting Moniteau beat Cranberry, 12-5.

Keagan Book was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, a run scored, and an RBI to lead the Warriors while James Gillen was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Connor Ealy also went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in the win, while Dawson Wallace was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Blaine Jamison got the win in relief of Ian Ross going four innings allowing four runs, one earned, on four hits, four walks, and a hit batter while striking out two.

Ross went three innings allowing an unearned run on a hit and a walk while striking out four.

Blake Marchinke went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Cranberry while Landon Baker was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Connor Morrow took the loss going three innings allowing seven runs, four earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out six.

CURWENSVILLE 7, GLENDALE 3

GLENDALE, Pa. – Curwensville won its third consecutive game with a 7-3 victory at Glendale.

Lawson Neiswender and Hunter Tkacik each drove in a pair of runs for the Golden Tide.

Neiswender was 1-for-3 with Tkacik going 1-for-4.

Andrew Pentz added a 2-for-4 day with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored for Curwensville while Gavin McDermott was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Pentz got the win going 6 ⅓ innings allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits, four walks, and a hit batter. He struck out four.

NORTH CLARION 23, FOREST AREA 2, 4 INNINGS

TIONESTA, Pa. – Leroy Ochs, Drake Irwin, and Kyle Rusiewicz helped North Clarion to its third straight win with a 23-2, four-inning road victory over Forest Area at West Forest.

Ochs doubled twice while going 2-for-4 with a walk, three runs scored, and three RBIs, while Irwin was 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs. Rusiewicz also drove in three runs going 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.

Wade Peters added a 2-for-2 day with a walk, two runs scored, and two RBIs, Logan Bish was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs scored, and two RBIs, Jack Buckley was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs, and Noah Baumcratz was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, two runs scored, and two RBIs.

North Clarion used four pitchers with Ethan Carll, the second of those, getting the win striking out the side in the second while walking one.

Nathan Dietrich was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI for Forest Area with Brendan Dunleavy going 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Leo Gilliland took the loss going one inning allowing eight runs, five earned, on four hits, three walks, and two hit batters. He struck out one.

SMETHPORT 23, NORTHERN POTTER 9

ULYSSES, Pa. – Scoring 10 times in the seventh, Smethport broke open a close game on its way to a 23-9 win at Northern Potter.

Evan Ruffner walked three times and had three RBIs for the Hubbers while Logan Hurlburt, Bennett Harris, and Cole Szuba each drove in two runs.

Hulburt was 1-for-3 with three walks and three runs scored, Harris was 2-for-4 with a double, two walks, and three runs scored, and Szuba was 1-for-5 with a double, a walk, and a run scored.

Smethport drew 22 walks in the game while also being hit by three pitches.

Colin Riekofsky was also 2-for-6 with a walk, an RBI and four runs scored for the Hubber, while Zach Hungiville went 2-for-2 with three walks, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Owen Rounsville got the win going five-plus innings allowing five earned runs on seven hits and three hit batters while striking out five.

Wyatt Bliss was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and four RBIs for Northern Potter with Kaden Hoopes and Ethan Hamilton each adding a pair of RBIs.

Hoopes was 1-of-3 with a walk and a run scored and Hamiltion was 1-for-4.

Ty Daniels also went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Panthers, and Noah Cady was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.

Hoops took the loss not recording an out. He gave up seven earned runs on three hits, a hit batter, and four walks.
