Oswayo Valley Upsets Port Allegany Girls; Northwestern Rolls Past Eisenhower

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – A quick start helped Oswayo Valley upset first-place Port Allegany, 34-28, in NTL action.

The homestanding Green Wave (11-7 overall, 7-6 NTL) raced out to a 10-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

Charlotte Austin-Keech hit a 3-pointer in the opening quarter and Layken Enty added four points to help Oswayo Valley to the early lead.

Eva West led the Green Wave with 10 points with Makenna Manning adding nine points, four rebounds, and three steals. Austin-Keech chipped in four points, five rebounds, and three steals.

                                      

Brynn Evens led Port Allegany (14-5, 11-2) with 11 points with Ella Moses adding nine points, nine rebounds, four steals, three blocks.

The Lady Gators’ loss tightened up the race for first place in the regular season in the NTL. Port is now tied with Coudersport (11-4, 9-2) in the loss column for first place, although the Lady Gators hold the tiebreaker having swept the Lady Falcons.

Port Allegany finishes league play with Cameron County Friday, at winless Galeton Feb. 7, and home to Austin Feb. 12. The Lady Gators lost to Austin Jan. 10 but beat the other two teams.

Coudersport, which beat Cameron County Tuesday (see story below), hosts Galeton Friday, hosts Northern Potter Monday, is at Austin Feb. 7, hosts Northern Potter Feb. 8, and travels to Otto-Eldred Feb. 12. The Lady Falcons have beaten all those teams expect Northern Potter, which they haven’t played yet.

NORTHWESTERN 64, EISENHOWER 40

                          

RUSSELL, Pa. – Makayla Presser-Palmer led three Northwestern players in double figures with 24 points in a 64-40 Region 3 win over Eisenhower.

With the win, Northwestern (14-3 overall, 8-1 Region 3) kept pace one game behind Mercyhurst Prep in the Region 3 standings.

Taylor Stagl netted 17 points for the Wildcats in the win, while Chloe Yazembiak tallied 14.

Clara Steinberg had 20 points for Eisenhower (7-8, 3-6).

OTTO-ELDRED 49, AUSTIN 37

AUSTIN, Pa. – Using early 3-pointers from Carrie Drummond and Kate Rhinehart, Otto-Eldred took home a 49-37 road NTL win over Austin.

Behind those early triples, the Lady Terrors (12-6 overall, 10-4 NTL) took a 10-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 22-15 halftime advantage.

Addie Bell played a key role in expanding the lead hitting a pair of 3-pointers of her own in the second quarter.

That helped Bell, who also scored seven fourth-quarter points, finish with 15 points while adding five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Bell was one of three Lady Terrors in double-digits with Rayel Hakes leading the way with 16 points.

                                   

Drummond added 12 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the victory, while Rhinehart grabbed nine rebounds to go with five points, two steals, and two helpers.

Lily Clinger paced Austin (11-7, 8-5) with 14 points with Isabella Rees adding seven points and 10 steals and Ella Brewer chipping in four points and nine steals.

COUDERSPORT 41, CAMERON COUNTY 36

EMPORIUM, Pa. – A strong third quarter helped visiting Coudersport overcome a slow start on its way to a 41-36 NTL win over Cameron County.

The Lady Falcons (11-4 overall, 9-2 NTL) trailed 13-7 at the end of the first quarter and 17-15 at halftime.

But in the third Coudersport, Sierra Myers and Savannah Myers each hit 3-pointers with Savannah and Hallie Rigas each scoring four points to spurn a 15-8 advantage that gave the Lady Falcons a 30-25 lead going to the fourth quarter.

Savannah Myers led the way for the Lady Falcons with 13 points with Rigas adding 11 tallies and Macie Popchak contributing eight points, four steals, and four rebounds. Olivia Fink grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.

Navaeh Spaeth led Cameron County (4-14, 3-10) with 15 points with Elsie Bresslin adding 12 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Trinity Earle contributed four points and eight rebounds.

SMETHPORT 44, GALETON 14

GALETON, Pa. – After missing a game Monday, Elizabeth Hungiville returned to the court with a vengeance scoring 12 points, grabbing 17 rebounds, blocking two shots, coming a away with one steal, and handing out an assist to lead visiting Smethport to a 44-14 win over Galeton in NTL action.

Jaidyn Goodman also reached double digits for the Lady Hubbers (4-13 overall, 3-9 NTL) with 10 points while adding six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Payton Neff also chipped in nine points, six rebounds, four steals, and three assists in the victory.

MONITEAU 43, KEYSTONE 23

KNOX, Pa. – Catherine Kelly had 16 points and four steals to help visiting Moniteau to a 43-23 win over Keystone in a non-conference game.

Sophia Fleeger hit three 3-pointers and added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Warriors (14-5) with Allie Pry chipping in seven points and five steals.

                                  

Abbey Jewart dished out five assists in the win, while Cheyenne Curl contributed five points and eight rebounds.

Emma Gruber had six points for Keystone (7-11).

KARNS CITY 46, CLARION-LIMESTONE 16

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Naomi Venesky had 16 points to lead Karns City to a 46-16 home win over Clarion-Limestone in a non-conference game.

Savanna Prescott added 11 points with Brooklynn Taylor hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points.

C-L (5-14), still playing without second-leading scorer Jenna Dunn, got seven points from Julianna Schwabenbauer.
