CLARION, Pa. – Taking control early, Karns City captured its second consecutive District 9 Class 3A girls’ basketball title with a 36-20 win over Brookville Thursday night at PennWest Clarion’s Tippin Gym.

The top-seeded Lady Gremlins (17-8) outscored second-seeded Brookville 12-2 in the first quarter to set the tone for the game.
Naomi Venesky led the way early with seven of her game-high 15 points in the opening quarter.
Venesky continued to show a hot hand in the second quarter knocking down a pair of 3-pointers to help Karns City push the lead to 12, 22-10, by halftime.
It was then Brooklynn Taylor’s turn in the third quarter, as she hit a 3-pointer and scored five points as the Lady Gremlins extended the lead to 32-16.
Taylor finished with seven points, as seven Karns City players scored in all.
Brookville got six points from Eden Wonderling and five from Kaida Yoder.
Karns City advances to the District 5-8-9 subregional championship game against the winner of the game between District 5’s Chestnut Ridge and District 8’s Westinghouse, which is being played at 6 p.m. Feb. 27 at Allederdice High School in Pittsburgh.
