Prep Edges Meadville to Capture Second Straight D10 Class 5A Boys’ Championship

The 2024 D10 Class 5A champion Cathedral Prep Ramblers.

ERIE, Pa. – Amaree Pickens scored 21 points as Cathedral Prep knocked off Meadville in a back-and-forth affair, 53-51 for the District 10 Class 5A title.

The title is the second in a row for the Ramblers (13-10), who overcame an 0-5 start to the season

It was the rubber game between the two teams after they split their meetings in the regular season.

Michael Thompson put Prep up 52-49 with just over a minute to play, but Lucas Luteran followed for Meadville with a bucket to cut the lead to one, 52-51 with 37 seconds to go.

The Bulldogs had an opportunity for a potential game-winner, but Prep came up with a steal and Thompson was fouled with three seconds to go and knocked down 1-of-2 from the line.

A last ditch effort by the Bulldogs (12-11) was no good.

Thompson was also in double figures for Prep with 11 points, while Nando Mirarchi

Jack Burchard tallied 17 points to lead the Bulldogs, while Luteran and Tykee Butler had 15 each.

With the win, Prep advances to play DuBois in a subregional, with the winner to take on the District 8 champion.
