Port Allegany Ends Oswayo Valley’s 42-Game Regular Season Win Streak; Conneaut Rallies to Beat Clarion in Five Sets; Corry Takes Down Warren in Five Sets (Sept. 14 VB Recaps)

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Port Allegany ended Oswayo Valley’s 42-game regular-season win streak with a 3-1 (14-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-23) road win.

It has been 1,052 days since the Green Wave, the 2022 District 9 champion and PIAA semifinalist, and 2021 District 9 runner-up, had been beaten in the regular season. That happened on Oct. 27, 2020, when Otto-Eldred beat Oswayo Valley 3-2.

After going 15-0 in 2021’s regular season, 19-0 last year, and 8-0 to start this season, the Green Wave’s run ended when Lily Lehmier had 14 kills and two blocks to lead the way for Port Allegany.

Kayleigha Dowell added 15 digs, eight kills, and three aces in the win, while Isla Lehmier ran the offense with 28 set assists while adding two blocks.

Olivia Cook had 11 kills, 10 digs, five blocks, and an ace for Oswayo Valley while Eva West chipped in nine digs and two blocks.

            

Aubrey Resig ran the offense for the Green Wave with 22 set assists and also served an ace.

CONNEAUT 3, CLARION 2

CLARION, Pa. – Trailing two sets to one, Conneaut turned up the intensity to rally past Clarion (25-19, 21-25, 13-25, 25-10, 15-11) at Clarion.

After dropping the third set handily, the Eagles started the fourth set up 15-1 before cruising to the victory and then quickly jumped ahead in the fifth set on their way to the victory.

Payten Karastury helped lead the comeback and finished with 30 set assists while also recording two aces and three kills. All the aces and kills came in the final two sets, and she was named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Match.

Karastury talked about the win on the Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview.

Laine Harrington led the Conneaut offense with 12 kills while Carly Perrye added nine kills.

Paris Karastury paced a strong Eagle defense with 27 digs, while Emily Vennare had three blocks.

Hadlee Campbell had 18 kills and eight digs for Clarion with Taylor Alston adding five kills and eight digs.

Rhiannon Copenhaver ran the offense with 19 set assists with Addi Campbell adding 11 set assists, Copenhaver also had three aces, while Alston and Marley Kline each had two blocks. Kline added three kills.

CORRY 3, WARREN 2

CORRY, Pa. – Halle Albers had a double-double as Corry stayed unbeaten with a 3-2 (25-21, 21-25. 25-21. 23-25, 15-11) win over previously unbeaten Warren.

                        

Albers had 11 kills and 12 digs as the Beavers won their third high-stake match in a row after victories over Conneaut and Clarion.

Freshman Grace Allen added 10 kills for Corry while Makenna Moore chipped in 18 digs and six aces.

Payton McCray ran the Corry offense with 32 set assists and also contributed eight aces.

Alexia Bowers had 16 kills and 18 digs for Warren with Kylie Fehlman adding 15 kills and six blocks for Warren with Maddy Jones chipping in 14 kills and Madelyn Nosel contributing 10 kills.

Lindsay Madigan ran the offense for the Dragons with 48 set assists while adding 10 digs, four blocks, and two aces, Summer Lucks controlled the defense with 39 digs while adding seven set assists, and Lily Walker chipped in 15 digs.

         

KARNS CITY 3, A-C VALLEY 2</strong >

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Sixteen kills, 13 digs, and three aces from Ava Fox helped Karns City to a 3-2 win over visiting A-C Valley.

Naomi Veneksy added five kills, two digs, and a block for the Lady Gremlins, while Cayley Craig served six aces while also chipping in three kills and three digs.

Nicole Taylor was a stalwart on defense for Karns City with 17 digs and also added three aces, while Kendall Ritzert ran the offense with 16 set assists with a helping hand from Ashley Mauer’s seven set assists. Ritzert also had four aces and three digs, and Mauer added seven digs and two aces.

Bella Ielase had seven kills and seven digs for A-C Valley with Maddy Dehart adding five kills, 13 digs, and two blocks and Colleen Verostek eight digs.

Lexi Altman ran the offense for A-C Valley with 15 set assists while serving five aces.

FRANKLIN 3, SHARON 2

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Homestanding Franklin fell behind two sets before rallying to beat Sharon, 3-2 (17-25, 15-24, 25-18, 25-20, 15-9).

Katie Boal led the way for the Knights with 14 kills and three blocks with Jenn Blium adding nine kills and Abby Boland six blocks.

Estella Adams ran the offense for Franklin with 32 set assists.

Ondrea Young had six kills, five digs, and 11 blocks for Sharon with Kylee Hasan adding six kills, six digs, and five blocks, Tay Chester chipping in five kills and 10 digs, and Victorya Byler adding five kills.

Kylie Weirick also had 11 digs and six aces for the Tigers with Claire Bodien adding five aces.

Jamoria Crumby ran the Sharon offense with 23 set assists while contributing eight digs.

COCHRANTON 3, YOUNGSVILLE 0

YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. – Cochranton served its way to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-13) Region 2 sweep at Youngsville.

The Cardinals got 21 combined aces from Maggie Jackson, Dani Hoffman, and Macie Williams (each had seven). They also got a big game at the net from Brooklyn Needler who had 12 kills on her way to earning Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Match honors.

“I know it (the loss to North East on Wednesday) left a bad taste in all our mouths to lose in three,” Needler said in her Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview. “It’s nice to catch a win tonight.”

Claire McCartney had eight kills. Hoffman had 10 digs, Williams had six digs, and Jackson ran the offense with 26 assists.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 3, BROCKWAY 1

DUBOIS, Pa. – DuBois Central Catholic used a balanced offensive attack to knock off visiting Brockway, 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23).

Kayley Risser led DCC with six kills with Lydia Morgan and Jessy Frank each adding five kills, and Emma Emma Ellensky and Marina Hanes chipping in four kills apiece.

Frank also had two aces, Elensky blocked six balls, and Hanes ran the offense with 16 set assists.

Lauren Rendos had 14 kills and 10 digs for Brockway with Sophia Schmader adding five kills, three aces, and 18 digs.

Kali Powell had 26 digs for the Lady Rovers while serving three aces and putting up two set assists, and Meeca Smith ran the offense with 22 set assists and also added five aces and eight digs.

ERIE, Pa. – Elizabeth Hunter had 16 kills as Maplewood earned a 3-0 win over Forest Area, 25-8, 25-6, 25-14.

Savannah O’Hara added nine kills in the win for the Tigers (5-1), while Madison O’Hara had eight kills and six digs and Maggie Means 35 set assists and five kills.

CRANBERRY 3, VENANGO CATHOLIC 0

OIL CITY, Pa. – Jadyn Shumaker had nine kills and Sara Schoch nine aces as Cranberry beat Venango Catholic, 3-0 (25-6, 25-8, 25-14).

Shumaker added a block, while Allie Rembold had three aces and 15 set assists and Avery Coe five aces and five set assists.

KEYSTONE 3, FOREST AREA 0

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Audrey Burrows had a team-high eight aces as well as seven kills to help Keystone to a 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-4) win over Forest Area.

Also for the Panthers, Bryanna Mong had 11 set assists, and Ava Patrick had eight kills and two blocks.

BROOKVILLE 3, BRADFORD 1

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Eden Wonderling and Averi Pangallo each had eight kills to lead Brookville to a 3-1 (25-27, 25-14, 25-14, 25-9) win over visiting Bradford.

Jamison Colgan added six kills for the Lady Raiders, while Wonderling and Jordan Daisley each had six aces.

GREENVILLE 3, SHARPSVILLE 0

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. – Thanks in part to nine kills and fou digs from Josie Hart, Greenville went on the road and swept Sharpsville, 3-0 (26-24, 25-12, 25-15).

Tayler Whitesell added four kills, four blocks, and two aces in the win, while Kristina Varion had four aces and three kills, and Lily Chpamn added 10 digs and two set assists.

Bella Gehly (13 set assists) and Rulee Jordan (8 set assists) ran the offense for Greenville with Jordan also adding four kills and two aces and Gehly contributing two aces.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 3, REDBANK VALLEY 0

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Samatha Griebel had 10 kills and seven digs, as Punxsutawney put in a complete effort in a 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-8) road win over Redbank Valley.

Ciara Toven added five kills and five aces for the Lady Chucks, while Zoey Hoover had three kills and two blocks and Brynn Hergert chipped in seven digs.

Danielle Griebel ran the Punxsutawney offense with 19 set assists and also served four aces.

Mylee Harmon and Izzy Bond each had three kills for Redbank Valley with Harmon also adding nine digs. Taylor Ripple chipped in seven kills and three aces for the Lady Bulldogs.

GROVE CITY 3, MONITEAU 0

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Abby Berry had 13 kills, 11 set assists, and seven digs to lead Grove City to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-19) road win over Moniteau.

Kylie Mahaffey and Makayla Northcut each chipped in six kills in the win with Northcutt also adding nine digs, and Addi Daniels had five kills and five digs.

Also for the Eagles, Brynna Miller had nine digs, and Jaya Persinger had 14 set assists

Davina Pry had five kills for Moniteau with Lily Staab adding four kills and three aces and Allie Pry six digs.

FORT LEBOEUF 3, CATHEDRAL PREP 0

WATERFORD, Pa. – Katelynn Olmstead and Ella McGowan each had nine kills in Fort LeBoeuf’s 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-21) home win over Cathedral Prep.

Kylie Peters added seven kills for the Bison who got 19 set assists from Mackenzie Galdon and 12 set assists from Kiernan Skelton.

Olivia Hutchinson led Cathedral Prep with eight kills while Kaylin Laird had five kills, four digs, and three aces.

Kamryn Resurreccion ran the offense for the Ramblers with 21 set assists while adding six digs.

UNION CITY 3, JAMESTOWN 1

JAMESTOWN, Pa. – Angie Hopson and Brooke VanTassell each had 11 kills and three blocks in Union City’s 3-1 (25-12, 20-25, 25-11, 25-17) win at Jamestown.

Cheyenne Cummings also added 11 kills and four aces for the Bears, while Cathryn Reynolds had seven kills and four digs.

Alyssa Tingley ran the Union City offense with 34 set assists and also served seven aces.

Hannah Hart, Sophia Hart, and Alayna Cadman each had four kills for Jamestown while Hannah Hart amd Cadman both contributed six digs and Sophia Hart five digs.

Madilyn Enterline led the Muskies with 18 digs, and Emily Enterline had nine digs and 11 set assists.

IROQUOIS 3, TIDIOUTE CHARTER 1

TIDIOUTE, Pa. – Grace Abele had 12 kills to help visiting Iroquois to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-20) win over Tidioute Charter,

Jasmine Cody added nine kills and Karina Reichard and Neela Lamp seven kills each for the Braves,

Anna McCshane served five aces in the win and also recovered nine digs, and Mila Gerhrien-Carpenter ran the offense with 29 set assists.

SENECA 3, ERIE 1

ERIE, Pa. – Seneca rallied from a first-set loss to beat visiting Erie, 3-1 (23-25, 25-9, 25-13, 25-21).

Ava Guzowski had a double-double for the Bobcats with 17 set assists and 11 kills while Emily Stafford also had a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.

Izzy Wisniewski chipped in 13 digs and Rylee Christie had 12 digs in the win.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 3, UNION 0

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Kaylee Smith had 22 set assists and six aces to help Clarion-Limestone to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-16) home win over Union.

Ansley Burke and Jenna Dunn led the Lady Lions on offense with eight kills apiece, and Alyssa Wiant contributed four aces.

Kya Wetzel had three kills for Union.

KANE 3, RIDGWAY 0

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Mia Anderson had nine kills and four aces to help Kane to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-4) win at Ridgway.

Maya Smith, who had 17 straight serves at one point in the second set with a pair of aces, added four kills and 10 digs, and Hailey Hillman contributed four kills.

COUDERSPORT 3, CAMERON COUNTY 0

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Sierra Myers had 15 kills, seven aces, and three blocks to help Coudersport to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-13) road sweep of Cameron County.

Savannah Myers added six kills, 11 digs, and three aces in the win, while Emily Eckert ran the offense for Coudersport with 23 set assists while also serving five aces.

Ava Hilfiger had four kills for Cameron County.

AUSTIN 3, OTTO-ELDRED 0

AUSTIN, Pa. – Savannah Horton had 13 kills and 10 digs to help Austin sweep visiting Otto-Eldred, 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 25-23).

Ella Brewer recorded 32 digs for the Lady Panthers, while Marah Fowler had 28 set assists and two kills.

Carrie Drummond paced Otto-Eldred with 15 kills, 14 digs, three aces, and three blocks. Anna Schuessler ran the offense for the Lady Terrors with 19 set assists while also adding seven digs.

MEADVILLE 3, GENERAL MCLANE 0

EDINBORO, Pa. – Another big night from Emma Parks helped Meadville sweep homestanding General McLane, 3-0 (25-6, 25-17, 25-12).

Parks had 23 kills and four aces to lead the Bulldogs while Aubrey Decker added five kills.

Elliott Schleicher ran the offense for Meadville with 28 set assists, an Kendall Mealy paced the defense with 19 digs while adding five aces.

Cassidy Swain had five kills and two blocks for General McLane with Ellah Beachly adding 11 digs, Morgan Frick chipping in five set assists and three digs, and Pacey Moran contributing five set assists, three digs, and two aces.

WEST MIDDLESEX 3, ROCKY GROVE 0

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Maggie Briggs and Avery Hanahan combined for 17 digs in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-18) West Middlesex win over visiting Rocky Grove.

Briggs had nine kills and three blocks for the Big Red while Hanahan added eight kills and seven digs.

Caitlin Stephens also had a strong all-around performance for West Middlesex with five kills, five digs, and 12 set assists, Sloan Mild added five kills and five digs, Emma Mild had five digs and three aces, and Mercedes McNutt contributed 10 diigs.

Abby Cable had four kills and two blocks for Rocky Grove with Kaidluynn Burger adding four digs and Olivia Faust three kills and two aces.

ALBION, Pa. – Northwestern swept visiting Girard 3-0.

Northwestern stats weren’t available but Alivia Montgomery had eight digs and Laurel Counasse five set assists for Girard.

JUNIATA VALLEY 3, CURWENSVILLE 0

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Despite five kills from Ava Olosky, Curwensville fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-12) at home to Juniata Valley.

Savannah Carfley added seven set assists for the Golden Tide.

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 3, EISENHOWER 1

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS, Pa. – Homestanding Cambridge Springs dropped the first set before winning three straight for a 3-1 ((20-25, 25-10, 25-19, 25-10) win over Eisenhower.

Cambridge Springs stats weren’t available.

Lainey Font had five aces for Eisenhower with Caroline Smyth adding five kills and seven blocks and Carley Christianson chipping in five kills and four blocks.

OIL CITY, Pa. – Visiting Wilmington rallied to beat Oil City, 3-2 (24-26, 25-8, 20-25, 25-23, 15-12)

Wilmington stats weren’t available, but Nicki Petro had 16 kills and two blocks for Oil City with Nyssa Hanlon adding nine kills, fou digs, and six aces.

Chayse Skinner ran the Oilers offense with 19 set assists.

BISHOP CARROLL 3, CLEARFIELD 1

HYDE, Pa. – Despite a thrilling extra-point first-set win, Clearfield dropped a 3-1 (25-27, 25-20, 25-18, 25-22) decision to visiting Bishop Carroll.

Gabby Henry had 14 kills for the Lady Bison while Sam Campolong added 11 kills and Addy Ruiz eight kills.

Hannah Glunt ran the offense for Clearfield with 32 set assists.

NORTH EAST 3, MCDOWELL 0

NORTH EAST, Pa. – North East swept visiting McDowell, 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-16).

North East stats weren’t available but McDowell got eight kills from Gabby DeLuca and five kills from Ana Fetzner.

Chase Rech had nine digs and Tayler Rech eight digs for the Trojans while Halle Guentner ran the offense with 18 set assists.

GALETON 3, SMETHPORT 0

GALETON, Pa. – Galeton swept visiting Smethport, 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-12).

Galeton stats weren’t available but Smethport got five kills and eight digs from Elizabeth Hungiville, six digs, three aces, and two kills from Jadyn Goodman, and eight set assists and four digs from Madi Faes.
