O’Neill Scores Career-High 26 Points to Lead ECC Boys Past DuBois; Redbank Valley Rolls Past Previously Unbeaten Punxsy

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Lance O’Neill scored 13 of his career-high 26 points to lead Elk County Catholic to a come-from-behind, 52-46, win over visiting DuBois in a key early-season D9 League matchup.

ECC (5-0 overall, 2-0 D9 League) trailed by one, 34-33, going to the fourth quarter but behind O’Neill, who had never scored 20 before Tuesday night, outscored the Beavers (4-3, 0-1) 19-12 in the final eight minutes.

Wil Wortman added four points in the fourth quarter for the Crusaders and finished with 16 points, while Colby Nussbaum added 10 points.

Tyson Kennis scored eight of his team-high 12 points in the third quarter for DuBois, which outscored ECC 13-10 in the quarter to take the one-point lead going to the fourth quarter.

                                      

Aiden West added 11 points for the Beavers while Cam Thompson and Rudy Williams each had nine points.

REDBANK VALLEY 65, PUNXSUTAWNEY 37

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A 23-8 third-quarter run fueled by eight points from Owen Clouse helped Redbank Valley pick up an early-season statement win, 65-37, over previously unbeaten Punxsutawney.

The Bulldogs (4-0) led by six, 29-23, at halftime before Owen Clouse hit a pair of third-quarter 3-pointers while scoring eight of his 13 points in the quarter.

Braylon Wagner added five of his 14 points in the quarter helping Redbank Valley expand the lead to 21 points.

                          

Ty Carrier hit four 3-pointers in the game and scored a game-high 18 points for the Bulldogs, while Mason Clouse chipped in 10 points.

Zach Presloid led Punxsutawney (5-1) with nine points while Beau Thomas chipped in six points.

KARNS CITY 70, MONITEAU 60

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Karns City used a quick start to down rival Moniteau, 70-60, in a non-conference game at Karns City.

The Gremlins (4-2) led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter and then used a 22-13 second-quarter advantage to take an 18-point, 38-20, halftime lead, and built the lead to 25 in the third quarter.

Jacob Callihan scored 11 points in the first half for Karns City with Taite Beighley adding eight and Hobie Bartoe adding seven points.

Beighley led the Gremlins with 15 points with Callihan adding 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals, and Peters contributing 14 points, six rebounds, and two assists.

Luke Cramer added 13 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists for Karns City, and Bartoe chipped in nine points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

Chason Rugg had a game-high 21 points for Moniteau (3-2) while Aidan Jackson and David Dessicino each added 12 points. Andrew Zepeda chipped in nine points and seven assists.

PORT ALLEGANY 62, NORTHERN POTTER 52

                                   

ULYSSES, Pa. – HItting 9 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter, Port Allegany pulled away from homestanding Northern Potter, 62-52, in NTL action.

Braylon Button hit 4 of 5 free throws in the fourth quarter while scoring 14 points for the Gators (3-4 overall, 3-1 NTL), while Nick Wilfong hit 4 of 6 charity shots in the quarter on his way to seven points, five from the free-throw line.

Port Allegany led 44-40 going to the final eight minutes after being outscored 17-12 in the third quarter by Northern Potter (3-4, 2-3).

Jarrod Funk led the Gators with 15 points, including 10 in the first quarter, while Isac Amell scored all eight of his points in the opening eight minutes to help Port Allegany take a 21-9 lead at the end of the quarter.

Nolen Smith had a game-high 22 points for Northern Potter with Ty Daniels adding 14 points and Malachi Lewis chipped in eight points.

COUDERSPORT 38, OSWAYO VALLEY 28

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Mason Roessner had 20 points, five steals, and four assists to lead Coudersport to a 38-28 win over visiting Oswayo Valley in NTL action.

Micah Batson added seven points for the Falcons (3-2 overall, 3-1 NTL) with Jerry Titus III adding six points, 14 rebounds, and four blocked shots. Kevin Sherry also chipped in five rebounds.

Conner Resig led Oswayo Valley (1-4, 1-4) with 10 points.

KEYSTONE 56, UNION 40

RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Eli Nellis scored 18 points to lead Keystone to a 56-40 win at Union in a non-conference game.

Xavier VanTassel and Drew Keth each added 10 points for the Panthers (2-6), who have won two in a row.

Playing without Dawson Camper, who was hurt last week in a win over Forest Area, Gage Jordan led Union (3-4) with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Owen Bish also scored 12 points and hauled in nine rebounds for the Golden Knights, who were also without another starter, Hayden Smith.

CAMERON COUNTY 69, SMETHPORT 35

                                  

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Scoring all of his career-high 34 points in the first three quarters, Josh Smith led Cameron County to a 69-35 road NTL win over Smethport.

Smith, whose previous career-best came last year against Northern Potter at 23 points, hit 15 shots from the field including four 3-pointers.

Ryan Shaffer added 19 points for the Red Raiders (5-1 overall, 3-1 NTL) with Josh Beer adding eight points.

Carson Dunn led Smethport (1-7, 0-5) with 11 points with Colin Okerlund chipping in 10 points.

JOHNSONBURG 66, KANE 36

KANE, Pa. – Isaiah Jackson and Eric Hoffman combined for 42 points to lead visiting Johnsonburg to a 66-36 win over Kane in AML action.

Jackson led the Rams (3-3 overall, 1-1 AML) with 22 points with Hoffman adding 20 points.

Sam Lundgren led Kane (4-3, 0-3) with 12 points with Dane Anderson chipping in nine.

COWANESQUE VALLEY 48, AUSTIN 20

WESTFIELD, Pa. – Carsyn Kemp led a balanced effort with 10 points, as Cowanesque Valley beat visiting Austin, 48-20.

Coen Kemp and Fletcher Good each added nine points for the Indians.

Dawson Hooftallen led Austin (1-6) with 10 points, seven rebounds, seven steals, four assists, and two blocked shots.

Carson Cooney chipped in 10 rebounds and three blocks for the Panthers, and Brennan Ogden had five rebounds and four blocked shots.

CHRISTIAN LIFE ACADEMY 67, VENANGO CATHOLIC 54

OIL CITY, Pa. – George Baker netted 17 points to lead Christian Life Academy to a 67-54 win at Venango Catholic.

Kyle Beichner led Venango Catholic (0-7) with a game-high 23 points with Konner Beichner and Bob Wheeler each adding 13 points.
