Late Run Lifts Clarion Boys Past DCC; Bradford Tops Ridgway in OT; Oil City Knocks off C-L

CLARION, Pa. – Using a game-ending 12-5 run, Clarion held off visiting DuBois Central Catholic, 56-50.

The Bobcats (5-1) led by as many as nine, 39-30, midway through the third quarter but trailed by one, 45-44, after Luke Fragle’s 3-pointer gave DCC (3-3) its first lead of the game with 4:38 to play.

                                      

But it was mainly Clarion from that point forward, as Dawson Smail tied the game when he hit one of two free throws 15 seconds later. Gabe Simko then took a feed from Smail and gave the Bobcats the lead back for good, 47-45, with 3:11 to go.

The duo reversed the hool up 1:12 late with Simko feeding Smail with the Daddy’s in Clarion Dish of the Game to put Clarion up four, 49-45.

The Bobcats still led by four, 51-47, after a Bryce Brinkley layup with 1:55 left, but Marek Hoyt gave DCC one last hope when he nailed a triple from the right corner with 1:34 to go to make it 51-50.

But Clarion hit five of six free throws, including the final five in a row, to seal the victory.

Smail had a strong all-around game for the Bobcats with 12 points, eight steals, and four assists and was named the Allegheny Grille in Foxburg Player of the Game.

Simko also had 12 points and six rebounds in the victory, while Brinkley finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Also for Clarion, Owen Kriebel scored nine points and Devon Lauer added a team-high 13 points.

Andrew Green had a game-high 17 points to go with eight rebounds for DCC with Hoyt adding 13 points and five assists. Fragle tallied eight points and eight rebounds, and Johnny Varischetti had seven points and six rebounds.

BRADFORD 58, RIDGWAY 54, OVERTIME

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Outscoring homestanding Ridgway 15-11 in overtime, Bradford picked up a 58-54 victory.

The Owls (2-3) and Elkers (2-3) were tied at 43 at the end of regulation after being tied at 31 going to the fourth quarter.

But in overtime, Jake Franz scored seven of his game-high 20 points, including going 5 of 6 from the line.

Behind Franz and Talan Reese (4 of 4), Bradford shot 9 of 10 from the line in overtime.

                                   

Reese chipped in 11 points in the victory, while Adam Ward had 18.

Jackson Kilpeck netted five of his team-high 18 points in the extra session for Ridgway, while Ethan Steich added 13 points and Alex Merritt picked up 11 tallies.

OIL CITY 51, CLARION-LIMESTONE 45

OIL CITY, Pa. – Oil City slowly pulled away from visiting Clarion-Limestone in the second half to pick up a 51-45 win.

The Oilers (4-2) led by one, 23-22, at halftime and by three, 38-35, going to the fourth quarter.

Five different Oil City players then scored in the fourth quarter led by three points apiece from Ethen Knox and Will McMahon.

That mirrored the team-wide effort for the Oilers who were led by Knox’s 14 points with McMahon adding 11, Sayyid Donald nine, and Jon Hargenrader eight.

C-L (2-3) got 12 points from Jack Craig, 11 from Jack Callen, and eight from Jase Ferguson.

ROCKY GROVE 66, NORTH CLARION 58

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Leading 50-49 going to the fourth quarter, Rocky Grove outscored North Clarion 16-9 over the final eight minutes to earn a 66-58 victory.

Rocky Grove (4-1) was 10-of-13 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, with Schiffer Anderson scoring seven of his 13 points in the fourth.

Noah Baughman and Landon Carter scored 19 points each for Rocky Grove, with 16 of Carter’s 19 points coming in the first half.

Drake Irwin led four North Clarion (3-4) players in double figures with 15 points, while Hudson Irwin and Colbin Watterson each scored 12 points and Logan Bish chipped in with 11.

GENERAL MCLANE 82, TITUSVILLE 57

EDINBORO, Pa. – Jacob Zietz connected for 24 points as General McLane earned an 82-57 win over Titusville.

                                  

GM (6-1) scored 27 points in the second quarter, outscoring Titusville (3-4) 27-12 in the quarter to take a 44-24 halftime lead.

Zietz was one of five Lancers in double figures, as Jackson Daley scored 11 points, and Logan Anderson, Cohen Beachley, and Greyson Rhodes 10 each.

Isaiah Colon had a huge game for Titusville in the loss, pouring in 38 points, 27 of which came in the second half.

CURWENSVILLE 67, CLAYSBURG-KIMMEL 59

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Davis Fleming led a four-some of Curwensville players in double digits with 21 points, as the Golden Tide held off visiting Claysburg-Kimmel, 67-59.

Curwensville (3-2) led by 13, 50-37, going to the fourth quarter.

Grant Swanson added 14 points for the Tide with Parker Wood chipping in 13 and Chandler English 11.

Breyden Haney had a team-high 20 points for Claysburg-Kimmel with Aidan Simpson adding 13 and Cury Walter and Elias Ritchey 10 each.

OTTO-ELDRED 69, GALETON 33

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Behind 21 Landon Francis points, Otto-Eldred rolled past visiting Galeton, 69-33, in NTL action.

Manning Splain added 16 points, Shene Thomas contributed 15 tallies, and Brax Caldwell netted 11 for the Terrors (7-0 overall, 5-0 NTL).

Matthew Zur and Corey Anderson each scored eight points for Galeton (2-2, 1-2).

BROCKWAY 66, FOREST AREA 39

TIONESTA, Pa. – Freshman Caleb Daugherty scored a career-high 21 points to lead Brockway to its first win of the season, 66-39, over Forest Area at West Forest.

Reese Yahner added 10 points for the Rovers (1-5), who also got nine tallies from Bradey Hughes and eight from Aiden Wilcox. Eleven different Brockway players scored in all.

Mitch Bawden netted 15 points for Forest Area (2-5).

CRANBERRY 76, COMMODORE PERRY 55

SENECA, Pa. – Led by 17 points from Cole Findlay, 11 different Cranberry players etched their names in the scorebook in the Berries’ 76-55 win over visiting Commodore Perry.

Ethan Merryman added 13 points for the Berries (4-3) with Landon Baker and Connor Morrow each scoring 10.

Nick Brown led Commodore Perry (1-4) with 17 points, Xavier Williams added 15 points, and Kyle Stengert had 12.

TYRONE 78, CLEARFIELD 49

TYRONE, Pa. – Eli Woomer and Andrew Escala combined to score 33 points to lead Tyrone past visiting Clearfield, 78-49, in LHAC East action.

Woomer led the Eagles (3-1 overall, 3-0 LHAC East) with 17 points with Escala adding 16.

Braison Patrick had a game-high 18 points for Clearfield (0-6, 0-4).
