Kane, Ridgway Boys Both Survive Last-Second Fouls on 3-Point shots to Secure Close Wins; Brookville Wins D9 League Crown Outright

KANE, Pa. – Ricky Zampogna rebounded a missed free throw by Jake Lobaugh with 0.9 of a second left, and Kane held off Johnsonburg, 60-59, in AML North action at Kane.

Down 60-57, Lobaugh had drawn a James Harden-style foul on Landon Darr off an inbound pass that occurred with 3.3 seconds left. That came right after Lobaugh had missed a 3-pointer but the ball went out of bounds off Kane.

Lobaugh hit the first two charity shots to make it 60-59 but his third shot was just a little short, and Zampogna went up between two Ram players for the game-clinching rebound.

Kane led 58-50 with a minute to play following a pair of Dane Anderson free throws.

But Johnsonburg roared back behind Aaron Myers

Myers scored four points in a span of seven seconds to make it 58-54 first getting a driving layup with 56.4 seconds to play and then combining with Luke Zimmerman to get a steal that led to another Myers basket with 49.5 left.

After Anderson made two more free throws to push the lead back to six, 60-54, Myers nailed a 3-pointer with 31.4 to play to make it 60-57.

                          

Scott Szymanski then missed two free throws for Kane with 24.7 seconds left, but Zampogna got the offensive rebounds.

Zampogna tried to put the ball back up, but Lobaugh blocked the shot.

The Rams then called a timeout with 19 seconds left.

That led to Lobaugh’s missed 3-pointer that went out of bounds off Kane.

Zampogna scored a team-high 20 points for Kane with all his points coming in the first three frames. He also had seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Anderson added 11 points and Darr 10 points, six rebounds, and three steals for Kane.

Myers had a career-high 24 points to lead Johnsonburg with Isaiah Jackson adding 16 points and Zimmerman 10.

RIDGWAY 33, BROCKWAY 31

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Alex Carlson was only able to hit one of three free throws with 1.8 seconds left, and Ridgway held on for a 33-31 road win at Brockway.

Down three, Carlson took a desperation 3-pointer and was fouled by Ridgway’s Eric Gustafson.

                                   

Carlson, though, missed the first free throw before hitting the second. He then tried to miss the third one on purpose but missed the entire rim giving the ball back to Ridgway, who was able to inbound the ball and allow time to run out.

Ridgway got the win despite scoring just three first-quarter points.

The Elkers trailed 6-3 after one, 19-14 at the half, and 28-25 heading to the fourth. They flipped the script in the fourth quarter, as they held the Rovers to just three points to grab the win.

Jack Benninger and Aaron Sorg each had 10 points in the win.

Aiden Wilcox had 10 points for Brockway, while Reese Yahner added nine points.

BROOKVILLE 51, BRADFORD 32

BRADFORD, Pa. – Clayton Cook scored 18 points, and Brookville clinched its second consecutive outright D9 League title with a 51-32 win at Bradford.

Up 16-9 at the end of one quarter, the Raiders outscored the Owls 16-7 in the second quarter to take a 32-16 halftime lead with Cook scoring six of the points in the quarter.

Conner Marshall added 13 points and Jack Pete 11 for Brookville.

Talan Reese scored eight points for Bradford.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 46, ST. MARYS 40, OVERTIME

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Held scoreless through regulation, Wil Wortman scored five of the Crusaders’ 11 points in overtime to help Elk County Catholic to a 46-40 win over St. Marys.

St. Marys had a 1-point edge, 29-28, entering the fourth quarter, but ECC held the Dutch without a field goal in the fourth to tie it up and send the game to overtime at 35-35.

                                  

Adam Straub led ECC with 12 points. Colby Nussbaum and Michael Jacobs each added 10 points.

Quinn Gouvazzi had a game-high 20 points, 12 in the first half, for St. Marys.

DUBOIS 51, PUNXSUTAWNEY 38

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Tyson Kennis scored 16 points to help DuBois to a 51-38 road win over Punxsutawney in D9 League action.

Cam Thompson added 11 points for the Beavers with Rudy Williams chipping in seven points.

Noah Weaver led Punxsutawney with 13 points with Jimmie Neese adding 111 points and Ryen Heigley nine.

UNION 68, SHEFFIELD 54

RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Union used a 23-point second quarter to break the game open on its way to a 68-54 win over Sheffield.

Zander Laughlin scored eight of his team-high 18 points in the second. Payton Johnston dropped eight of his 17 points in the fourth quarter. Trey Fleming also finished in double figures with 12 points.

Lucas McNeal had a game-high 21 points for the Wolverines. Leihden Wotorson and Connor Finch each scored 12 points.

CLARION 48, KEYSTONE 28

CLARION, Pa. – A 14-2 first-quarter advantage lifted Clarion to a 48-28 win over Keystone on Hoops for Hope Night at Clarion.

Led by three 3-pointers from Bryce Brinkley, Clarion hit four first-quarter 3-pointers to set the tone early.

Those were Brinkley’s only nine points of the game.

Devon Lauer led Clarion with 17 points and three assists with Gabe Simko adding 11 points.

Cole Henry led Keystone with 11 points with Drew Keth adding nine points.

OSWAYO VALLEY 69, NORTHERN POTTER 63

ULYSSES, Pa. – Behind Brayden Wiley, Cayden Blakc, and Dawson Welch Oswayo Valley rallied from five down entering the fourth quarter to beat homestanding Northern Potter, 69-63, in NTL play.

The Green Wave trailed 48-43 after 24 minutes of action before Wiley scored seven and Black and Welch six each to help Oswayo Valley outscore the Panthers 25-15 in the fourth quarter.

Black had 20 points and Wiley 16 to lead the Green Wave, while the six fourth-quarter points were the total for Welch.

Allen Mertsock, who added four fourth-quarter points, added 15 tallies in the victory.

Ty Daniels scored a game-high 23 points for Northern Potter with Logan Chapman and Ethan Fuhrer each adding 10 points.

CAMERON COUNTY 47, PORT ALLEGANY 36

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Ryan Shaffer scored seven of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter to help visiting Cameron County pull away from Port Allegany, 47-36, in NTL action.

The Red Raiders led by five, 32-27, going to the fourth quarter before outscoring the Gators 14-9 in the quarter behind the play of Shaffer.

Camdyn Allison added 12 points in the win.

Drew Evens paced Port Allegany with 12 points with Braylon Button and Blaine Moses each adding eight points. Button also had nine rebounds and Moses seven boards.

COUDERSPORT 54, GALETON 28

COUDERSPORT, Pa. Coudersport was a rude host, as Mason Roessner netted 22 points in a 54-28 NTL win over Galeton.

Micah Batson added 13 points, five steals, and four assists for the Falcons who also got five points and 12 rebounds from LT Myers.

Corey Anderson had nine points for Galeton and Aiden Whipple scored seven.

SMETHPORT 63, AUSTIN 36

SMETHPORT, Pa. – A career-high 27 points from Hayden Leet lifted Smethport to a 63-36 win over visiting Austin in NTL action.

Ryan Pelchy added 11 points and Carson Dunn seven for the Hubbers.

Jacob Hooftallen paced Austin with 12 points with Dawson Hooftallen adding 10 points.

MOUNT UNION 47, CURWENSVILLE 44

MOUNT UNION, Pa. – Trailing by four going to the fourth quarter, Jayvien Brumbaugh and Andrew Cuff helped Mount Union rally for a 47-44 home ICC North victory over Curwensville.

The Trojans trailed 36-32 going to the fourth quarter but Brumbaugh scored nine points and Cuff five to lead the rally.

Cuff finished with 15 points to pace Mount Union with Brumbaugh adding 13.

Parker Wood had 10 for Curwensvilel, Andrew Wassil added nine, and Chander English seven.
