Dec. 5 Girls’ Hoops: Union City Outlasts Sharpsville in Triple Overtime; Bradford Rallies Past Oil City; RG Wins in OT; Port Snaps O-E’s NTL Streak

UNION CITY, Pa. – Cathryn Reynolds and Brooke VanTassel scored 18 points apiece as Union City outlasted Sharpsville in a three-overtime thriller, 58-52.

VanTassel scored six points in the extra periods and Reynolds five, as the game was tied 42-42 after regulation, 44-44 after the first overtime, and 48-48 after the second overtime.

Cheyenne Cummings had a three-point play in triple overtime to help Union City pull away, outscoring Sharpsville 10-4 in the third extra period.

Union City went to the free throw line 31 times, connecting on 17 of them, with Reynolds going 7-for-10.

Brooke Wienczkowski also had nine points in the win (seven in the first half) for Union City.

                                      

The Bears trailed by three, 36-33 going in the fourth quarter before outscoring Sharpsville 9-6 in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime.

Sharpsville’s Lily Palko scored 13 of her team-high 16 points in the first half.

The Blue Devils were 11-of-20 from the charity stripe.

Macie Steiner was also in double figures for Sharpsville with 12 points, while Brooklyn Ramsey added 10.

Dava Masters scored all five of her points in the overtime periods for the Blue Devils.

                          

BRADFORD 46, OIL CITY 45

BRADFORD, Pa. – Freshman Haley Keane made two free throws with 28 seconds left to lift Bradford to a 46-45 win over visiting Oil City.

The Oilers led 45-44 when Keane got fouled heading to the basket.

Keane, who was 2-for-4 from the line up to that point, calmly sank both charity shots to give the Lady Owls the lead.

That capped a strong night for Keane, who scored a career-high 15 points, including six in the fourth quarter.

Keane’s six fourth-quarter points helped Bradford rally from a 39-36 deficit going to the quarter after a barrage of 3-pointers, four in all and two from Alyssa Johnson, kept the Lady Owls in the game in the third quarter.

Johnson, who hit three triples, finished with 12 points with Mallory Craig scoring eight.

Payton Liederbach netted a game-high 19 points for Oil City but was held to two points in the fourth quarter.

Riley Guiste added 13 tallies for the Oilers while Sophia Garmong scored eight points.

Bradford trailed 39-36 going to the fourth quarter.

                                   

ROCKY GROVE 47, JAMESTOWN 45, overtime

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Rae Montgomery had a monster game with 26 points as Rocky Grove topped Jamestown in overtime, 47-45.

Montgomery scored nine of her 26 points in overtime, which included 5-of-8 from the charity stripe for the Orioles.

Paige Creswell and Zoe Creswell also came up with a bucket each in overtime for Rocky Grove, which outscored Jamestown 17-15 in the extra time.

Jamestown trailed 16-9 at halftime and 24-19 after the third quarter before rallying to force overtime with an 11-6 run.

Alayna Cadman had four of her team-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to help get the game to overtime, while Alexis Riley knocked down a triple in the fourth.

Riley finished with six points for the Muskies, while Cadman also had four rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Audra Thomas also pulled down nine rebounds.

PORT ALLEGANY 41, OTTO-ELDRED 34

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Ella Moses scored six of her game-high 18 points in the third quarter to help Port Allegany rally past visiting Otto-Eldred, 41-34, snapping the Lady Terrors’ 33-game NTL win streak.

The Lady Gators trailed 17-14 a halftime but outscored Otto-Eldred 14-8 in the third quarter behind the play of Moses, who finished a double-double with 10 rebounds while also adding two steals and two blocked shots.

It was the first conference loss for Otto-Eldred since dropping a 50-35 decision at home to Coudersport on Feb. 11, 2019. The Lady Terrors were 16-0 in 2022 and 16-0 in 2023 in league play before starting 1-0 this season. Even though there was basketball in 2021, there was no NTL league action that season because of COVID-19.

The loss is also the first road NTL defeat for Otto-Eldred since Jan. 13, 2019, when it lost at Coudersport, 43-24. The Lady Terrors had won 19 straight NTL road games before Tuesday night.

Kayleigha Dowell added 10 points in the victory for Port Allegany with Brynn Evens chipping in seven points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Jenna Renner also had five rebounds and four steals to go with two points.

Carrie Drummond scored nine points to lead Otto-Eldred with Kate Rhinehart and Rayel Hakes each adding seven points.

SMETHPORT 43, FOREST AREA 23

                                  

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Elizabeth Hungiville had a triple-double with 20 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 steals while also adding a pair of blocks in Smethport’s 43-23 win over Forest Area at East Forest.

Jaidyn Goodman added five points and nine rebounds for the Lady Hubbers while Payton Neff hit three 3-pointers on her way to 11 points in the win.

Kaylie Rooke had seven points, eight blocked shots, and four rebounds for Forest Area with Amber Guzzi adding six points.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 54, MONITEAU 46

DUBOIS, Pa. – Marina Hanes scored nine of her 10 points in the second quarter to help DuBois Central Catholic use a 15-9 run in the quarter to open up a 10-point halftime lead.

Kayley Risser led the Lady Cardinals with 14 points with Jessy Frank adding 11 points.

Catherine Kelly continued her early-season scoring barrage with a game-high 24 points for Moniteau while adding eight rebounds. Kendall Sankey chipped in nine points and nine boards for the Lady Warriors.

CATHEDRAL PREP 69, WARREN 26

WARREN, Pa. – Jayden McBride scored 23 points as Cathedral Prep powered past Warren in its season opener, 69-26.

“It feels good,” McBride said during the Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview: “Warren is a good team so it was a good challenge for us. It was a great game and the atmosphere was great.”

Addie Biel was also in double figures for Prep with 16 points, while McKenna Valone and Natalie Spano added eight points each.

Alana Stuart led Warren with eight points.

NORTH EAST 53, COCHRANTON 36

COCHRANTON, Pa. – North East outscored Cochranton 19-1 in the second quarter en route to a 53-36 win.

Alaina Rodemoyer led a balanced effort for North East with 15 points, while Alex Cozzens added 11 and Maisy Post nine.

Shelby McBrayar led Cochranton with 11 points.

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 60, MEADVILLE 31

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Cambridge Springs outscored Meadville 17-0 in the first quarter on its way to a 60-31 win.

Payton Leandro scored 18 points in the win for Cambridge Springs, with 13 of them coming in the second half.

Moira York had 14 points for the Blue Devils and Sydney Zilhaver 10.

Meg Puleis had 11 points to pace Meadville.

NORTHERN POTTER 36, AUSTIN 25

ULYESSES, Pa. – Haylee Chapman and Emma Haynes combined to score 22 points to lead Northern Potter to a 36-25 NTL win over visiting Austin.

Chapman led NoPo with 12 points with Haynes adding 10.

Ella Brewer and Lilly Clinger each scored eight points for Austin.

GROVE CITY 52, GENERAL MCLANE 36

EDINBORO, Pa. – Maddie Osborne scored 19 points as Grove City earned a 52-36 road win over General McLane.

Osborne was 8-of-9 from the free throw line, including 6-of-6 in the fourth quarter, with the Eagles going on a 12-4 run to close the game after leading 40-32 going into the fourth.

Piper Como added 15 points for Grove City, while Izzie Gamble added 10.

Libby Opp had 11 points to lead GM, while Bella Dibble added seven.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 56, TYRONE 40

TYRONE, Pa. – Emily Dobbins went 5 of 7 from the floor on her way to a game-high 19 points to lead visiting Punxsutawney to a 56-40 win over Tyrone.

Danielle Griebel added 13 points, six assists, four steals, and two rebounds in the win with Avary Powell chipping in 10 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and two assists.

Bree Paul hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points for Tyrone while Alayna Greene chipped in 10 points.

GREENVILLE 37, SAEGERTOWN 22

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Greenville went on a 15-1 run in the second quarter on its way to a 37-22 win over Saegertown.

Greenville trailed 8-5 after the first quarter before rallying to take a 20-9 halftime lead.

Preslie Kirilla led a balanced Greenville effort with 11 points, while Peyton Davis added seven points.

Lyndzee Amory led Saegertown with nine points.

ST. MAYS 63, BROCKWAY 31

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Jayssa Snelick poured in a career-high 31 points, as St. Marys opened the Zane Adiyeh area with a 63-31 AML win over visiting Brockway.

Snelick’s previous career high came in the 2022 District 9 title game on March 1 of that year when she netted 29 points in a 68-48 win. She also scored 21 points in a win over Kane last year for her only two 20-plus points career contests until Tuesday night.

Molly Hanslovan also scored a career-high 17 points for the Lady Dutch, while Maura Caskey chipped in 10 points.

Only three players scored for Brockway led by 14 points and nine rebounds from Rheanna Spinda. Kalina Powell added nine points with Raegan Gelnette chipped in six tallies.

KARNS CITY 54, CRANBERRY 24

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Brooklynn Taylor scored 12 of her game-high 15 points in the third quarter helping Karns City to a 54-24 Mercy Rule win over visiting Cranberry in the KSAC opener for both teams.

Up 27-12 at the break, the Lady Gremlins outscored Cranberry 19-8 in the third quarter to blow the game completely open.

Naomi Venesky added 10 points for Karns City, who had nine players etch their names in the scorebook.

Elena Garland scored 10 points for Cranberry.

OSWAYO VALLEY 43, GALETON 2

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Shutting out visiting Galeton over the final three quarters, Oswayo Valley picked up a 43-2 NTL win over the visiting Tigers.

Makenna Manning had 17 points, seven rebounds, and five steals for the Green Wave, who led 22-2 at the end of the first quarter and 34-2 at halftime.

Charlotte Austin-Keech added 12 points, eight rebounds, and six steals in the win, while Brooke George had seven rebounds, seven steals, and six points.

Tanner Sunderlin hit a first-quarter basket for Galeton but the Tigers couldn’t find the bottom of the net the rest of the night.

HARBOR CREEK 56, LAKEVIEW 26

HARBORCREEK, Pa. – Brook Przybylski scored 24 points as Harbor Creek earned a 56-26 win over Lakeview.

Hannah Smith also scored seven points for Harbor Creek, which raced out to a 23-2 lead after the first quarter on its way to the win.

Emma Marstellar, Kyndra Seddon and Denna Sommers scored six points each for Lakeview, with Seddon also pulling down six rebounds.

CENTRAL MOUNTAIN 67, DUBOIS 32

DUBOIS, Pa. – Taylor Doyle scored a game-high 23 points to lead visiting Central Mountain past DuBois, 67-32.

Lynk Lander paced DuBois with 14 points.

WESTERN RESERVE ACADEMY (OHIO) 54, MCDOWELL 46

ERIE, Pa. – Trailing 41-37 going into the fourth quarter, Western Reserve Academy (Ohio) outscored McDowell 17-5 in the fourth quarter for a 54-46 win over the host Trojans.

Brooklyn Hall and Joradyn Steindl scored five points each in the fourth to aid in the rally for Western Reserve.

Maya Nahar had a team-high 15 points for Western Reserve, while Hall added 10 and Jadyn Brenneman nine.

Kaylee Bithell scored a game-high 18 points for McDowell, while Francesca Russo had 12 points on four three-pointers.

YOUNGSVILLE 50, COMMODORE PERRY 36

YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. – Riley Robinault connected for 25 points as Youngsville beat Commodore Perry, 50-36.

Robinault scored eight points in the fourth quarter, as Youngsville went on a 15-3 run after leading 35-33 going into the fourth to put the game away.

Molly Helman was also in double figures for the Eagles with 11 points. .

Jazlyn Boyles had 12 points for Commodore Perry and Lilly Waleff added seven.

SENECA 51, CORRY 22

WATTSBURG, Pa. – Mallory Hammill scored 14 points as Seneca topped Corry, 51-22.

Averil Puschak added 12 points in the win for Seneca.

Grace Allen led Corry with six points.
