Dec. 5 Boys’ Hoops: Shaffer’s Late Layup Caps Cameron Co. Rally Against Bradford; Clarion Powers Past RG; Corry Edges North East

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Ryan Shaffer’s layup with three seconds lifted Cameron County to a 56-54 comeback win over visiting Bradford.

The Red Raiders trailed by 16, 44-28, with about 10 minutes to play a game-ending 28-10 run.

With the score tied at 54, Cameron County held the basketball from the 1:07 mark until 14 seconds were left before Shaffer was able to get to the rim and finish.

The Red Raiders got back into the game before the end of the third quarter by finishing the frame on a 12-3 run thanks in part to a 3-pointer by Shaffer.

Shaffer then scored 11 of Cameron County’s 16 fourth-quarter points to complete the comeback.

                                      

He finished the game with a game-high 25 points with Landon Farren adding 12 and Josh Smith 11.

Chase Wineberg scored 20 points for Bradford while Jake Franz added 19 points.

CLARION 68, ROCKY GROVE 44

CLARION, Pa. – A 25-10 second-quarter blitz helped Clarion run away from visiting Rocky Grove, 68-44.

Seven different Bobcats scored in the second quarter led by seven points from Devon Lauer and six from Gabe Simko. That helped Clarion expand a 9-8 lead going to the quarter to 34-18 at halftime.

For the game, nine Clarion players scored paced by 18 points from Lauer, who was named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game.

Bryce Brinkley and Simko each added 11 points for Clarion with Owen Kriebel adding 10.

Noah Baughman and Schiffer Anderson each scored 15 points to lead Rocky Grove.

CORRY 56, NORTH EAST 53

CORRY, Pa. – Markus Lambert poured in 25 points as Corry held off North East, 56-53.

                                   

Kamdyn Moon scored 10 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter to help Corry to the win, while Rylan Smith added nine points.

Lambert drilled a pair of second quarter triples to help stake Corry to a nine-point halftime advantage, 32-23

Noah Crozier led North East with 19 points, while Carter Crozier and Cam Lican had 13 points each. Carter Crozier scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half.

RIDGWAY 38, UNION 33

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Four players scored between seven and nine points to lift Ridgway to a 38-33 home win over Union.

Jackson Kilpeck led the Elkers with nine points with Hunter Beeler and Alex Merritt each scoring eight points and Evan Gustafson chipping in seven points.

Trey Fleming scored 11 points to pace Union with Dawson Camper adding eight points, 10 rebounds, and three assists.

FORT LEBOEUF 72, ERIE FIRST CHRISTIAN 59

WATERFORD, Pa. – Fort LeBoeuf outscored Erie First Christian 16-2 in the second quarter to take control in a 72-59 win.

Dom Russo scored seven of his 11 points in the second quarter, while Hunter Villa had five of his 17 during the spurt.

Russo and Villa were two of four Fort LeBoeuf players in double figures, as Carson Papay poured in a team-high 20 points, while Ronan Dorler also had 17 points.

Aaron Collins had a big game in the loss for EFC, scoring a game-high 33 points, while Sam Gonzalez was also in double figures with 13 points.

SHEFFIELD 48, YOUNGSVILLE 41

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Sheffield outscored Youngsville 15-9 in the fourth quarter on its way to a 48-41 win.

The Wolverines held a slim one-point lead, 33-32, going to the final eight minutes but Dylan Harwick scored six of his 12 points in the quarter to help Sheffield pull away.

                                  

Allen Eaton led the Wolverines with 16 points with Leihden Wotorson added 10 points.

Sheffield led by seven, 29-22, at halftime thanks to a 20-point first quarter before Youngsville rallied to back it a game in the third quarter behind five points from Rylan Benton.

Benton led the Eagles with 17 points, while Nathan Lucks had 13.

NORTH CLARION 55, UNION CITY 43

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Logan Bish led three North Clarion players in double figures with 18 points in a 55-43 win over Union City.

Drake Irwin added 14 points in the win for the Wolves, while Colbin Watterson chipped in 10.

Austin Sherwood led Union City with 11 points while Trent Parkhurst added eight.

LAKEVIEW 58, CONNEAUT 36

STONEBORO, Pa. – Owen Dye scored 17 points as Lakeview beat Conneaut, 58-36.

The Sailors led 30-15 at halftime en route to the win.

Lucas Fagley was also in double figures for Lakeview with 13 points, while Aiden Voorhees added nine.

Shakiir Jordan led Conneaut with 12 points, while Tristan Shealtz added 10.

CRANBERRY 64, KEYSTONE 51

KNOX, Pa. – Building a six-point halftime lead, Cranberry closed strong to beat homestanding Keystone, 64-51.

Four Berries scored in double digits led by 16 points from Cole Findlay.

Landon Baker chipped in 14 points for Cranberry with Ethan Merryman adding 12 and Blake Marchinke 10.

Drew Keth dropped four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 18 points for Keystone with Eli Nellis adding 11 and Dom Corcetti eight. The latter two are freshmen.

GROVE CITY 74, REYNOLDS 19

TRANSFER, Pa. – Brett Loughry and Nathan Greer combined for 46 points as Grove City powered past Reynolds, 74-19.

Paul Grubba was also in double figures for Grove City with 10 points.

Loughry and Greer combined for all but two of Grove City’s points in the first quarter, scoring 11 points each as the Eagles raced out to a 24-1 lead.

Andrew McCloskey led Reynolds with 10 points.

ST. MARYS 57, BROCKWAY 28

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Leading 36-11 at halftime, visiting St. Marys cruised to a 57-28 AML win over Brockway.

Ben Paul led the Dutch with 15 points with Anthony Nedzinski adding 13, Quin Gavazzi 12, and Matt Davis eight.

Freshman Caleb Daughtery had 10 points to pace Brockway.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 51, GLENDALE 32

FLINTON, Pa. – Marek Hoyt scored 23 points to lead DuBois Central Catholic to a 51-32 road win over Glendale.

Andrew Green added 17 points in the win for the Cardinals.

Jacob Lukehart paced Glendale with 11 points.

CENTRAL-MARTINSBURG 50, CLEARFIELD 34

HYDE, Pa. – Eli Muthler scored 10 of his team-high 13 points in the first half to help visiting Central-Martinsburg top Clearfield, 50-34, in LHAC East play.

The Dragons used a 22-point second quarter to open up a 31-17 halftime lead after taking a 9-7 lead at the end of eight minutes.

Hunter Smith added nine points for Central with Brady Albright scoring eight points.

Even Maines led Clearfield with 13 tallies.

GIRARD 72, GENERAL MCLANE 65

GIRARD, Pa. – Girard rallied from a 45-29 halftime deficit, outscoring General McLane 43-20 in the second half on its way to a 72-65 win.

Geremia Dell’omo scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half for Girard, which rallied to get within five, 58-53 to start the fourth quarter before outscoring GM 19-7 over the final eight minutes.

Dell’omo was one of three Girard players in double figures, as Nate Edwards scored 13 points and Brandon Fiolek 10. Kenny Godoy also score six of his eight points in the fourth quarter.

Jacob Zietz led General McLane with 20 points, while Logan Anderson had 17.

SLIPPERY ROCK 58, LINCOLN (ELLWOOD CITY) 51

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Clinging to a 35-34 lead going to the fourth quarter, Slippery Rock outscored Lincoln 23-17 over the final eight minutes en route to a 58-51 win.

Anderson Franco scored 10 of his team-high 18 points for Slippery Rock in the fourth quarter, while Levi Prementine scored eight of his 16 points over the final eight minutes.

Josh Book also had 17 points for Slippery Rock.

Franco was 4-of-5 from three-point range, while Book added six rebounds and Prementine six rebounds and five steals.

Joseph Roth had a big game in defeat for Lincoln with a game-high 34 points.

SHARON 64, SHARPSVILLE 48

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. – Sharon outscored Sharpsville 27-5 in the second quarter on its way to a 64-48 win over Sharpsville.

Sharon led 39-17 at halftime after the game was tied at 12 after the first quarter.

Santino Piccirilli led four Sharon players in double figures with 16 points, while Derek Douglas had 13 points and Levi Hailstock and Angelo Fromm each added 10.

Luke Staunch led Sharpsville with a game-high 20 points, while Aiden Cadman added 11.

MERCER 73, WILMINGTON 18

MERCER, Pa. Daeymin Mattocks scored 20 points as Mercer raced to a 73-18 win over Wilmington.

Cole Cunningham added 16 points for Mercer, while Braden Balaski added 12.
