Dec. 4, 2023 D9/10 Basketball: Defending State Champion Kennedy Catholic Girls Open With Win; Kane Boys Edge Port A.

CANFIELD, OHIO – Kennedy Catholic’s 2023-24 season began just like the previous one ended – with a win.

The defending PIAA Class 2A state champions got 22 points from Layke Fields in a 51-48 win over Canfield (Ohio).

Cameron Dill had a shot at the buzzer that would have sent the game to overtime for Canfield, but it was off the mark.

Bella Magestro was also in double figures for Kennedy with 15 points, while Monique Vincent added eight and freshman Tori Harvey six.

Kennedy Catholic led 27-18 at halftime.

                                      

Jenna Triveri had 14 points to lead Canfield.

COUDERSPORT 62, SMETHPORT 34

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Led by 15 points from Olivia Fink three Coudersport players reached double digits in a 62-34 win over visiting Smethport in NTL action.

Sierra Myers added 12 points for the Lady Falcons with Savannah Myers chipping in 11 points.

Elizabeth Hungiville had 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal for Smethport with Jaidyn Goodman adding 10 points and five rebounds.

                          

JOHNSONBURG 39, CAMERON COUNTY 33

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Behind 13 points, eight steals, and five rebounds from Gianna Zimmerman, Johnsonburg knocked off visiting Cameron County, 39-33.

Natalie Dunworth added 10 points and five steals for the Ramettes with Maria Casilio also scoring 10 points.

Elsie Bresslin led Cameron County with nine points.

CONNEAUT 51, GIRARD 15

GIRARD, Pa. – Lainie Harrington scored 16 points as Conneaut picked up a win in its season opener, 51-15 over Girard.

Hannah Brady scored 15 points for CASH, which led 30-9 at halftime.

Courtney Perrye added nine points in the win to go along with six rebounds and six steals, while Morgan Poff had 10 rebounds and seven assists and Kaitlyn Crabbe six assists and six steals.

Leah Pratt had nine points for Girard.

FRANKLIN 71, TITUSVILLE 20

                                   

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Katie Boal had a double-double of 26 points and 16 rebounds as Franklin earned a 71-20 win over Titusville.

Boal also had six blocks in the win.

Jamie Blum had 12 points and five steals for Franklin, while Estella Adams had nine points and four assists and Jenn Blum six steals.

Addy Burleigh had six points to lead Titusville.

COCHRANTON 50, FORT LEBOEUF 47

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Cochranton built an 11-point lead after the third quarter and held on for a 50-47 win over Fort LeBoeuf.

Eve Pfieffer poured in a game-high 20 points for Cochranton, while Shelby McBryar had 14 and Macie Williams 10.

Jillian Soder had a big game in the loss for LeBoeuf with a game-high 25 points.

SHARON 50, FARRELL 38

SHARON, Pa. – Lacey Root scored 15 points as Sharon picked up a win in its season opener, 50-38 over Farrell.

Tay Chester added 11 points in the win for Sharon, which led 21-18 at halftime.

Janiya Daniels had 11 points to lead Farrell.

OSWAYO VALLEY 60, SMETHPORT 30

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Nik Bonney tickled the twine for 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help Oswayo Valley to a 60-30 home NTL win over Smethport.

                                  

Gabe Mundt added 12 points and eight boards for the Green Wave, who saw eight different players etch their names in the scorebook. Conner Resig also chipped in eight points and nine rebounds.

Carson Dunn paced Oswayo Valley with 14 points.

KANE 52, PORT ALLEGANY 48

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Dane Anderson scored 14 of his game-high 28 points in the second quarter to help Kane knock off homestanding Port Allegany, 52-48.

Anderson scored 14 of the Wolves’ 16 second-quarter points helping the visitors take a 30-21 halftime lead.

Kane still led by double digits, 48-35 going to the fourth quarter before holding off a furious Port Allegany rally in the final eight minutes.

That rally was led by Jarrod Funk, who scored 11 of his team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Sam Lundeen added 16 points for Kane, while Braylon Button and Jacob Causer each chipped in 11 for Port Allegany.

COWANESQUE VALLEY 54, AUSTIN 36

AUSTIN, Pa. – Using a balanced effort, visiting Cowanesque Valley topped Austin, 54-36.

Led by 11 points from Kaden Cole, nine different Indians scored in the victory.

Carter Ackley added 10 points in the victory.

Dawson Hooftallen had a big game for Austin with 24 points eight rebounds, and seven steals.

CONNEAUT 53, CRAWFORD CHRISTIAN 48

LINESVILLE, Pa. – Conneaut outscored Crawford Christian 18-9 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 53-48 win.

Alex Brady scored eight of his 18 points in the fourth quarter for CASH, while Shakiir Jordan had 17 points and Tristan Shelatz added eight points.

Allen Miller led Crawford Christian with 18 points, while Cole Keyser added 10 points.

MEADVILLE 94, WEST MIDDLESEX 26

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Lucas Luteran led a balanced scoring effort as Meadville lit up the scoreboard in a 94-26 win over West Middlesex.

Luteran was one of three Meadville players in double figures, as Jack Burchard scored 15 points and Jamerie Boitnott had 14.

The Bulldogs led 56-17 at halftime en route to the win, with 11 different players scoring in the win .

John Partridge had 12 points for the Big Reds.
