Dec. 2, 2023 Girls’ Basketball Recaps: Kelly Hits 1,000-Point Milestone as Moniteau Tops Greenville

Moniteau's Catherine Kelly reached the 1,000-point milestone in Saturday's win over Greenville.

GROVE CITY, Pa. – On her final basket of a 15-point first quarter during a 55-43 win over Greenville at the Grove City Tip-off Tournament, Catherine Kelly became the ninth girls’ basketball player in Moniteau school history to reach 1,000 career points.

Kelly, who needed 14 points entering the night to hit 1,000, made four baskets while going 7 of 7 from the free-throw line during the opening right minutes helping the Lady Warriors take a 19-3 lead.

Kelly finished the night with a career-high 29 points and 1,015 career points while becoming the first Moniteau player to reach 1,000 point since Aslyn Pry in 2021, who ended her career with 1,046.

Kelly has a real shot at the school record of 1,447 points held by Alyssa Deal, who graduated in 2006. She is only 142 points behind her coach, Dee (Slater) Arblaster, who is second in school history with 1,157 points having graduated in 1984.

Sophia Fleeger added 12 points for Moniteau with Kendall Sankey adding seven points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.

                                      

Preslie Kirila had a strong game for Greenville with 24 points with Peyton Davis chipping in seven tallies.

OTTO-ELDRED 43, NORTHERN POTTER 38

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Otto-Eldred began defense of its NTL title with a 43-38 win over visiting Northern Potter in the league opener for both teams.

The victory was the 33 consecutive league win for the Lady Terrors.

                          

Ayla VanScoter led a balanced offensive effort for Otto-Eldred with 11 points with Carrie Drummond and Rayel Hakes each scoring nine points. Addie Bell chipped in six tallies.

Molly Cady scored nine points for Northern Potter with Reagan Slawson, Hailey Chapman, and Emma Haynes each chipping in eight points.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 43, BROCKWAY 12

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Punxsutawney cruised to the tournament title in Brockway with a 43-12 win over the homestanding Lady Rovers.

Emily Dobbins had 14 points and three steals for the Lady Chucks with Danielle Griebel adding 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Natalie Burkett also added five steals in the contest, as Punxsutawney had 18 steals in the game.

Rheanna Spinda had six points for Brockway, which trailed 28-2 at halftime.

KARNS CITY 26, DUBOIS 18

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Nicole Huff and Hanna Dailey combined to score 17 points, as Karns City beat DuBois, 26-18, in the consolation game of the Brockway Tip-off Tournament.

Huff had a team-high 10 points with Dailey contributing seven tallies.

                                   

Lynx Lander had a game-high 11 points for DuBois.

CLEARFIELD 50, BROOKVILLE 23

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Tournament MVP Sonny Diehl, only a freshman, had her second consecutive monster game on the boards to help Clearfield to a 50-23 win over Brookville in the championship game of the Brookville Tip-off Tournament.

Diehl finished with eight points and 14 rebounds a day after scoring 16 points and hauling down 19 rebounds.

Mia Helsel had a game-high 18 points for the Lady Bison while Cayleigh Walker added 12 points. Hannah Glunt also chipped in eight tallies.

Eden Wonderling paced Brookville with nine tallies.

NORTH CLARION 52, CLARION-LIMESTONE 36

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Lily Homan’s 17-points, 12-steal double-double helped give her dad, Skip Homan, his first win as North Clarion’s head coach, 52-36, over Clarion-Limestone in the consolation game of the Brookville Tip-off Tournament.

The She-Wolves started fast and led 15-3 at the end of the first quarter thanks in part to nine points from Homan.

Akeela Greenawalt added 10 points for North Clarion with Brooke Steinman chipped in eight tallies. Ainsley Hartle and Kyler Freeman each grabbed six rebounds and both players scored four points.

Jenna Dunn had 17 points for C-L.

FOREST AREA 28, UNION/A-C VALLEY 18

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Amber Guzzi and Jayden Colvin combined to score 18 points, as Forest Area won the Forest Area Tip-off Tournament with a 28-18 win over Union/A-C Valley at East Forest.

                                  

Guzzi led the Fires with 10 points with Colvin scoring eight.

Ava Strauser had a game-high 11 points for Union/A-C Valley.

FOREST HILLS 67, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 52

SIDMAN, Pa. – Alexis Henderson exploded for 26 points to help Forest Hills to a 67-52 win over DuBois Central Catholic in the championship game of the Forest Hills Tip-off Tournament.

Emma Elensky led DCC with 16 points while Kayley Risser and Marina Hanes each chipped in 12 points for the Lady Cardinals.

REDBANK VALLEY 57, ERIE 43

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Ady Bond and Mylee Harmon combined for 38 points to pace a 57-43 win by Redbank Valley over Erie in the Franklin Tip-off Tournament.

Bond had a game-high 20 points with Harmon adding 18. Kira Bonnano also added 12 for the Lady Bulldogs with Izzy Bond rounding out the scoring with seven points.

Dreya Neavins had 14 points and Aubrey Neavins 10 points for Erie.

RIDGWAY 44, CLARION 22

RIDGWAY, Pa. – A big game from Jenna Kasmierski helped Ridgway double up visiting Clarion, 44-22, in the championship game of the Inaugural Ridgway Tip-off Tournament.

Kasmierski had 21 points, six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.

Gabby Amacher added nine points and three assists for the Lady Elkers.

Sophie Babington and Marley Kline each scored six points for Clarion.

KEYSTONE 44, SMETHPORT 39

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Ashlee Albright nailed five 3-pointers and tickled the twine for a game-high 23 points to lead Keystone to a 44-39 win over Smethport in the consolation game of the Ridgway Tip-off Tournament.

Emma Gruber added 10 points for the Lady Panthers.

Elizabeth Hungiville had a monster game for Smethport with 15 points, 22 rebounds, six steals, five assists, and three blocked shots.

Jaidyn Goodman added nine points and 13 rebounds for the Lady Hubbers.

OIL CITY 38, CRANBERRY 21

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Payton Liederbach netted 12 points to help Oil City to a 38-21 win over Cranberry in the championship game of the Roy Sanner Tip-off Tournament at Rocky Grove.

Riley Guiste added eight points for the Oilers with Sophia Garmong chipping in seven.

Avery Coe paced Cranberry with six points.

PORT ALLEGANY 41, BRADFORD 33

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Ella Moses had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while adding four assists to help Port Allegany to a 41-33 home win over Bradford.

Brynn evens added eight points and 10 boards for the Lady Gators who also got 13 points, four steals, and three assists from Kayleigha Dowell.

Kalie Dixon scored 13 points for Bradford with Haley Keane adding nine tallies.

FAIRVIEW 47, NORTH EAST 29

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Freshman Paige Garrity scored 22 points as Fairview earned a 47-29 win over North East.

Garrity had four triples in the win, while Ella Garrity had nine points and Bre Heidt seven for the Tigers.

Alaina Rodemoyer led North East with eight points, while Samantha Probst added seven.

NORTHWESTERN 49, SAEGERTOWN 17

ALBION, Pa. – Makayla Presser-Palmer poured in 35 points as Northwestern beat Saegertown, 49-17 in the championship game of the Northwestern Tip-off Tournament.

Presser-Palmer scored 28 of her 35 points in the first half.

Lindsey Greco led Saegertown with seven points.

WARREN 55, SACRED HEART (N.Y.) 31

WARREN, Pa. – Alyssa Farr led a balanced effort with 13 points as Warren rolled past Sacred Heart (N.Y.), 55-31 in the championship game of the Warren Tip-off Tournament.

Halle Kuzminski had 12 points for the Dragons and Alana Stuart 10.

Warren led 36-22 at halftime en route to the win.

Grace Caterina led Sacred Heart with nine points.

GENERAL MCLANE 52, HICKORY 28

STONEBORO, Pa. – Libby Opp scored 17 points as General McLane earned a 52-28 win over Hickory in the Lakeview Tip-off Tournament.

Bella Dibble and Kelsey Berger were also in double figures with 10 points apiece for the Lancers.

Gianna Fleming and Kimora Roberts had nine points each for Hickory.

WILMINGTON 43, FRANKLIN 40

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Alyssa Flick scored 18 points as Wilmington edged Franklin, 43-40.

Reese Bruckner added nine points for Wilmington, while Maya Jeckavitch had seven.

Katie Boal had 11 points and 12 rebounds for Franklin, while Jen Blum added 10 points.

GROVE CITY 33, MERCER 32

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Izzie Gamble knocked down a pair of free throws with 19 seconds remaining to help Grove City to a 33-32 win over Mercer.

Mercer led 27-23 going into the fourth quarter before GC rallied for the win.

Gamble led Grove City with 15 points.

Pressley Washil had 19 points for Mercer.

BETHEL PARK 54, MCDOWELL 41

PITTSBURGH – Amaiya Nelson scored 22 points for McDowell but it was Bethel Park that earned a 54-41 win.

Sadie Orie had 21 points for Bethel Park, while Julie Benock had 17 points.

NESHANNOCK 34, LAKEVIEW 32

STONEBORO, Pa. – Jaidon Nogay had 12 points as Neshannock edged Lakerview, 34-32 in the Lakeview Tip-off Tournament on Saturday.

Emma Marstellar had a strong game in the loss for Lakeview with 19 points, including 11-of-14 from the free throw line

Kyndra Seddon and Maddie Doyle had five points each for Lakeview.

MAPLEWOOD 38, UNION CITY 36

WARREN, Pa. – Maggie Means scored 10 points as Maplewood outlasted Union City, 38-36 in the consolation game of the Warren Tip-off Tournament.

Madison O’Hara added nine points and Savannah O’Hara eight for Maplewood, which went on a 19-6 run in the third quarter.

Brooke VanTassel led Union City with nine points, while Cathryn Reynolds and Brooke Wienczkowski had nine points each for the Bears.

YOUNGSVILLE 26, TIDIOUTE CHARTER 16

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Zaylee Cressley scored nine points as Youngsville beat Tidioute Charter, 26-16 in the consolation game of the Forest Area Tip-off Tournament.

Riley Robinault had eight points for the Eagles, while Kahlynne May added seven.

CORRY 51, REYNOLDS 30

ALBION, Pa. – Lauren Thomas scored 12 points and Lindsey Hasbrouck 10 as Corry beat Reynolds, 51-30 in the consolation game of the Northwestern Tip-off Tournament.

Grace Allen added eight points for Corry.

Julie Wade led Reynolds with 12 points.

COWANESQUE VALLEY 38, OSWAYO VALLEY 34

WESTFIELD, Pa. – Ella Churchill scored 15 points to lead Cowanesque Valley past visiting Oswayo Valley, 38-34.

Makenna Manning led Oswayo Valley with 15 points, five steals, and four rebounds.
