Dec. 2, 2023 Boys’ Hoops Recaps: Warren Beats Brookville for Tourney Title; Lakeview, Harbor Creek, Sharon Notch OT Wins

Warren won the 2023 Brookville Tip-off Tournament.

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Braylon Barnes scored 10 of his team-high 18 points during a 19-7 second-quarter run that lifted Warren to its second consecutive Brookville Tip-off Tournament title thanks to a 53-34 win over the host Raiders.

“They pressured Tommy (Nyquist) a lot,” Barnes said. “I knew I had to give him more of an opportunity to get the ball to everybody. Jack Pete is a very good defender, so I knew he was going to be up on me. I was going to use my cuts as a way to score on him. They screened for me offensively to get me open, which was awesome.”

Logan Crissey added 16 points for the Dragons with Brady Berdine chipping in 12.

Kellan Haines had a game-high 23 points for Brookville, who only had three players score. Pete added eight tallies.

LAKEVIEW 51, CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 50, overtime

STONEBORO, Pa. – Cody Fagley had 14 points as Lakeview outlasted Mercer, 51-50 in overtime of the Lakeview Tip-off Tournament.

                          

Cody Fagley had 11 points for the Sailors, while Maddox Bell and Lucas Fagley had eight points each.

Parker Schmidt had a monster game in the loss for Cambridge Springs with 34 points.

HARBOR CREEK 55, SENECA 51, overtime

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – JT DelSandro scored 19 points and Braylen Wilson had 18 as Harbor Creek outlasted Seneca in overtime, 55-51 at the Fairview Tip-off Tournament.

Wilson scored five of his points in overtime to help the Huskies to the win, while Tucker Chwatek added nine points.

Lucas Rupp had a game-high 21 points for Seneca, while Nolan Seabury added 14.

SHARON 63, MARS 61, overtime

SHARON, Pa. – Owen Schenker scored 17 points as Sharon outlasted Mars, 63-61 in overtime in the championship game of the Sharon Tip-off Tournament.

Derek Douglas added 15 points for the Tigers in the win, while Santino Piccirilli had 14.

Ryan Ceh and Austin Campbell had 13 points each for Mars.

                                   

NORTHERN POTTER 50, COWANESQUE VALLEY 47

WESTFIELD, Pa. – Nolan Smith’s 3-point off an inbounds play with under 10 seconds to play lifted Northern Potter to a 50-47 win at Cowanesque Valley.

Malachi Lewis had 12 points to lead a balanced Panther effort with Ty Daniels adding 11 points, Conhar Snyder chipped in nine points on three 3-pointers, and Smith and Ethan Fuhrer each added eight points.

CRANBERRY 66, MAPLEWOOD 44

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Cole Findlay scored 23 points to lead Cranberry to a 66-44 win over Maplewood in the consolation game of the Roy Sanner Tip-off Tournament at Rocky Grove.

Connor Morrow added 10 points for the Berries who also got eight tallies from Ethan Merryman.

Jacob Woge paced Maplewood with 13 points with Case Peterson adding 12 and Chase Koelle adding 10.

YOUNGSVILLE 56, FOREST AREA 17

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Rylan Benton poured in 28 points as Youngsville beat Forest Area, 56-17 in the championship game of the Forest Tip-off Tournament.

Benton knocked down six triples in the win for Youngsville, while Nathan Lucks also had 15 points in the win.

Keyon Custer and Mitch Bawden had six points each for Forest Area.

A-C VALLEY 45, SHARPSVILLE 36

FOXBURG, Pa. – Jay Clover and Zahsheen Levins each had double-doubles to lead A-C Valley past Sharpsville, 45-36, in the Hoops for Heroes Tournament at A-C Valley.

Clover had 10 points and 15 rebounds with Levins adding 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Noah Will chipped in nine points with Brodu Dittman chipping in seven for the Falcons.

                                  

Luke Distler had 10 points for Sharpsville with Aiden Cadman adding eight points and Luke Staunch chipping in seven points.

NORTH EAST 36, KARNS CITY 34

FOXBURG, Pa. – Fred Shunk had 13 points to help North East edge Karns City, 36-34, in the Hoops for Heroes Tournament at A-C Valley.

Zach Pondo added 12 points for the Grape Pickers.

Luke Cramer had 11 points to pace Karns City with Jacob Callihan adding nine points and Shane Peters chipping in eight points.

UNION 81, BROCKWAY 24

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Hayden Smith’s 20 points led a four-some of Union players in double digits, as the Golden Knights took down Brockway, 81-24, in the consolation game of the Brookville Tip-off Tournament.

Owen Bish added 14 points for Union with Dawson Camper adding 12 and Trey Fleming 10.

Kyle Kennedy, Kolton Kahle, and Aiden Patton each scored six points for Brockway.

DUBOIS 44, OIL CITY 27

KNOX, Pa. – In the championship game of the Keystone Tip-off Tournament, DuBois got 13 points from Maddox Bennett on its way to a 44-27 win over Oil City.

Noah Farrell and Aidan West each added eight points for the Beavers with Trey Wingard chipping in seven points.

Sayyid Donald had nine tallies for Oil City.

CLARION 63, KEYSTONE 36

KNOX, Pa. – Devon Lauer had 15 points, as Clarion had 11 different players scored in a 63-36 win over Keystone on the consolation game of the Keystone Tip-off Tournament.

Gabe Simko added 12 points for the Bobcats with Kameron Merrell chipping in nine tallies.

Drew Keth scored 12 points to pace Keystone.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 51, INDIANA 21

INDIANA, Pa. – Having five players scored between nine and 13 points, Punxsutawney rolled to the championship of the Indiana Tip-off Tournament with a 51-21 win over the host Little Indians.

Beau Thomas led the Chucks with 13 points with Noah Weaver adding 10. Jimmie Neese and Noah Kengersky each added nine tallies, and Cooper Hallman had eight points.

SAEGERTOWN 49, NORTH CLARION 38

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Cody Huson poured in 23 points as Saegertown beat North Clarion, 49-38 in the championship game of the Sheffield Tip-Off Tournament.

Sam Draa added 10 points in the win for the Panthers.

Ethan Carll led North Clarion with nine points, while Hudson Irwin added eight.

SHEFFIELD 52, PORT ALLEGANY 48

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Leihden Wotorson scored 26 points as Sheffield earned a 52-48 win over Port Allegany in the consolation game of the Sheffield Tip-off Tournament.

Wotorson scored 13 points in each half on his way to Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game honors, as Sheffield rallied from an early 8-0 deficit.

Dylan Hardwick was also in double figures scoring for Sheffield with 16 points, while Allen Eaton added eight.

Hardwick also had three assists, while Colby Barr had nine rebounds.

Braylon Button had 12 points to Port Allegany, while Nick WIlfong and Isac Amell had nine apiece.

FRANKLIN 82, MEADVILLE 66

SHARON, Pa. – Jalen Wood led four Franklin players in double figures with 20 points as the Knights beat Meadville, 82-66 in the consolation game of the Sharon Tip-off Tournament.

Franklin led 49-27 at halftime.

Damon Curry had 15 points for Franklin, while Demarco Payne added 13 and Cole Buckley 12.

Lucas Luteran led three Meadville player in double figures with 18 points, while Jack Burchard had 17.

GENERAL MCLANE 71, SLIPPERY ROCK 45

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Jackson Dailey led five General McLane players in double figures with 16 points in a 71-45 win over Slippery Rock in the championship game of the West Middlesex Tip-off Tournament.

General McLane led 39-15 at halftime en route to the win.

Greyson Rhodes had 13 points for GM, while Jacob Zietz, Isaac Zietz and Logan Anderson had 10 points each.

Josh Book had 20 points in the loss for Slippery Rock, while Levi Prementine added 15.

FORT LEBOEUF 71, ERIE FIRST CHRISTIAN 65

UNION CITY, Pa. – Carson Papay scored 20 points as Fort LeBoeuf topped Erie First Christian, 71-65

Ronan Dorler and Hunter Villa had 17 points each for LeBoeuf, while Dom Russo added 11.

The Bison outscored EFC 38-20 in the second half en route to the win.

Aaron Collins had a big game in the loss for the Eagles with 33 points, while Simon Gonzalez added 13 points.

MERCER 52, RIVERSIDE 35

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Daemyin Mattocks scored 16 points as Mercer knocked off Riverside, 52-35 in the Laurel Tip-off Tournament.

Cole Cunningham added 14 points for Mercer, which went on a 17-7 run in the second quarter.

Barden Balaski also had eight points in the win.

Rob Janis had 16 points to pace Laurel.

ROCKY GROVE 45, TITUSVILLE 41

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Rocky Grove outlasted Titusville, 45-41 to claim the Roy Sanner Tip-off Tournament title.

Noah Baughman scored 19 points for Rocky Grove, including seven in the fourth quarter to help lead the Orioles to the win.

Landon Carter also scored seven of his 14 points in the fourth quarter for Rocky Grove.

Isaiah Colon scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the second quarter for Titusville, while Colin Wagner had eight of his 11 points in the fourth quarter.

IROQUOIS 63, UNION CITY 28

UNION CITY, Pa. – Cajohn Howard scored 14 points to lead a balanced effort as Iroquois topped Union City, 63-28 in the consolation game of the Union City Tip-off tournament.

Devin Brink added nine points for Iroquois, while Kellen Boroughs and Javion Lucas had eight points each.

Trent Parkhurst led Union City with 10 points.

GREENVILLE 57, WEST MIDDLESEX 27

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Noah Philson scored 14 points as Greenville beat West Middlesex, 57-27.

Greenville led 32-3 after the first quarter en route to the win.

Mason Vannoy had 12 points for Greenville, while Noah Cano added nine.

ERIE 64, FAIRVIEW 34

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Layveon Gore scored 20 points as Erie rolled to a 64-34 win over Fairview.

Jaheim Mims was also in double figures for the Royals with 10 points.

LAUREL 51, WILMINGTON 25

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Luca Santini scored 16 points as Laurel powered past Wilmington, 51-25 in the Laurel Tip-Off Tournament.
