Dec. 10, 2021 D10 Boys’ Hoops: Fulmer, Franklin Power Past Oil City; Defending State Champ Ramblers Open With Win

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Easton Fulmer scored 24 points as defending D10 Class 3A champion Franklin opened its season with a 68-36 win over Oil City in the opening round of the Franklin Elks Tip-Off Tournament.

Fulmer scored 19 of his points in the first half as the Knights built a 35-15 advantage.

Damon Curry, Luke Guth and Cole Buckley were also in double figures for the Knights. Curry, the 2020-21 D9and10Sports.com District 10 Rookie of the Year, netted 13 points, while Guth and Buckley tallied 10 each.

Cam VanWormer had 16 points to lead Oil City.

CATHEDRAL PREP 48, KNOCH 31

                                      

BUTLER, Pa. – Defending Class 5A state champion Cathedral Prep got its season off to a strong start with a 48-31 win over Knoch in the Butler Invitational.

The Ramblers led by four, 22-18 at halftime, but used a 15-2 third-quarter run to take control.

Jake Sambuchino led a balanced effort with 16 points, while Taivon Spencer added 11 and Amaree Pickens seven.

Ryan Lang had 15 points to pace Knoch.

WARREN 67, BROCKWAY 21,

                          

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Parks Ordiway scored a game-high 22 points to lead Warren to a 67-21 win over Brockway in the opening round of the Brookville Tip-Off Tournament.

Ordiway made five threes in the game, including three in the first quarter as the Dragons built a 44-16 halftime advantage.

Owen Becker scored 18 points for Warren, 16 of which came in the first half, while Brady Berdine chipped in with nine.

Alex Carlson and Aiden Grieneisen scored six points apiece for Brockway.

SAEGERTOWN 52, NORTH CLARION 40

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Saegertown outscored North Clarion 27-10 in the second half to rally for a 52-40 victory in the opening round of the Sheffield Sports Booster Tip-Off Tournament.

Jaden Wilkins and Brady Greco combined to score 43 of the Panthers’ 52 points, with Wilkins tallying 22 and Greco 21.

Collin Schmader scored 15 points to lead North Clarion, while Aiden Hartle added nine and Josh Daum eight.

                                   

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 65, GIRARD 53

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Nathan Held scored 16 points as Cambridge Springs earned a 65-53 win over Girard in the opening round of the Franklin Elks Tip-Off Tournament.

The Blue Devils got balanced scoring, as Parker Schmidt netted 15 points, Hunter Spaid 14 and Ethan Counasse eight.

Cambridge Springs trailed by four at halftime, but rallied to outscore Girard 39-23 in the second half.

Austin Shady led three Girard players in double figures with 17 points, while Dylan McDonald and Geremia Dell’omo had 10 each.

FAIRVIEW 46, SENECA 23

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Fairview built a 29-point halftime lead on its way to a 46-23 win over Seneca.

Logan Frazao led a balanced Tiger scoring attack with 13 points, while Jeremy Frazao and James Sitter scored seven points each.

Logan Kibbe and Lucas Rupp had six points each for Seneca.

GREENVILLE 61, REYNOLDS 17

STONEBORO, Pa. – Jalen Ritzert scored 22 points as Greenville rolled to a 61-17 win over Reynolds.

Logan Lentz added 12 points for the Trojans who put up 29 points in the third quarter.

Ashton Small led Reynolds with six points.

GENERAL MCLANE 64, LAKEVIEW 43

STONEBORO, Pa. – General McLane outscored Lakeview by 16 points in the fourth quarter on its way to a 64-43 victory.

                                  

Danny Bruce and Jeremiah Schreiber had 16 points each for the Lancers, while Ian Kennedy added nine.

Lane Smith poured in a game-high 26 points for Lakeview.

MERCER 55, RIVERSIDE 38

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Mercer outscored Riverside 40-17 in the middle two quarters en route to a 55-38 win over Riverside.

Woody Nickel had 22 points to pace the Mustangs, including four 3-pointers. Jake Mattocks added 11 points and Nate Haines eight.

Garrett Dwyer had 13 points to pace Riverside.

MCDOWELL 54, BENEDICTINE (OHIO) 47

ERIE, Pa. – Eight different McDowell players found their way into the scoring column, led by Curtis King’s 10 points in a 54-47 win over Benedictine in the Marsha Marsh Roundball Classic.

A 12-5 burst in the third quarter helped lift the Trojans to the win.

Kris Smith and George Henderson added seven points each for McDowell.

WEST MIDDLESEX 51, SHARON 47

SHARON, Pa. – Richie Preston scored 20 points as West Middlesex held off a Sharon rally for a 51-47 win.

Logan Shrawder added 10 points for the Big Reds.

Mister Ham had 13 points to lead Sharon.

QUAKER VALLEY 68, KENNEDY CATHOLIC 49

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Quaker Valley outscored Kennedy Catholic 39-23 in the second half en route to a 68-49 win.

Marcus Frank scored 28 points to lead the Quakers.

Elijah Harden had 12 points for Kennedy Catholic and Malik Lampkins-Rudolph 10.

HARBOR CREEK 56, ERIE 50

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Harbor Creek outscored Erie 18-12 in the fourth quarter en route to a 56-50 win over the defending D10 Class 6A champions.

Nick Krahe led three Huskies in double figures with 16 points, while Jaden Rocco netted 15 and Gavin Ennis 13.

Shaquawn Horton had nine points and Kree Thompson eight for Erie.

SLIPPERY ROCK 63, MOHAWK 34

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Dylan Gordon and John Sabo scored 19 points each as Slippery Rock upended Mohawk, 63-34.

STO-ROX 46, FARRELL 45

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – A pair of late free throws lifted Sto-Rox to a 46-45 win over Farrell.

Lamont Samuels scored 12 points and Omar Stewart Jr. 11 for Farrell.

KEYSTONE 54, COCHRANTON 39

KNOX, Pa. – Bret Wingard scored a game-high 24 points to lead Keystone to a 54-39 win over Cochranton in the opening round of the Keystone Tip-off Tournament.

Zander McHenry added 15 points for the Panthers.

Jaiben Walker led Cochranton with 12 points with Landon Homa added 11.

BRADFORD 49, EISENHOWER 27

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Cam Austin and Jake Franz combined for 34 points to lead Bradford to a 49-27 win over Eisenhower on the opening day of the Randy Stebbins Memorial Tournament at Otto-Eldred.

Austin scored a game-high 20 points with Franz adding 14.

Wyatt Lookenhouse scored 13 points to lead Eisenhower.

REDBANK VALLEY 58, JAMESTOWN 44

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – One day after playing in the PIAA Class 1A Championship football game, Bryson Bain and Chris Marshall were on the basketball court turning in double-double performances in Redbank Valley’s 58-44 win over Jamestown in the first round of its own tip-off tournament.

Bain scored 19 points with 10 rebounds while Marshall finished with 13 points and grabbed 10 boards as the Bulldogs led 26-21 at halftime and outscored the Muskies 32-23 in the second half.

Cameron Keyser and Peyton McElhinny scored 17 and 16 points respectively for the Muskies.

ROCKY GROVE 69, CRANBERRY 29

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Isaac Clayton scored a game-high 25 points as Rocky Grove topped Cranberry, 69-29 in the open the opening round of the Roy Sanner Tip-Off Tournament at Rocky Grove.

The Orioles led by just three after the first quarter but outscored the Berries 37-11 in the second and third stanzas.

Alex Zinz scored 13 points for Rocky Grove, while Reece Henderson netted seven.

Preston Forrest scored seven points to lead Cranberry.
