Dec. 1, 2023 D9/10 Girls’ Hoops Recaps: Kelly, Moniteau Battle Past Grove City; Brookville, Mercer, Union/ACV Nab Close Wins

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Catherine Kelly had 20 points to lead Moniteau to a 43-39 win over Grove City at the Grove City Tip-off Tournament.

Kendall Sankey added 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the win.

Piper Como had 11 points for Grove City.

BROOKVILLE 48, CLARION-LIMESTONE 47

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Eden Wonderling scored 14 points and nine different Brookville players found the scoring column in a 48-47 win over Clarion-Limestone in the first round of the Brookville Tip-Off Tournament.

                                      

Kaida Yoder, who scored nine points, hit one of two free throws to clinch the game in the closing seconds and give the Lady Raiders a four-point lead with 4.6 seconds left before C-L’s Jenna Dunn hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to set the final.

Dunn led C-L with 15 points.

MERCER 30, GREENVILLE 28

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Pressly Washil scored eight points as Mercer beat Greenville, 28-20 in the Grove City Tip-off Tournament.

Ashlynn Heckathorn added six points for Mercer in the win.

                          

Lily Chapman had nine points and Preslie Kirila eight for Greenville.

UNION/A-C VALLEY 40, YOUNGSVILLE 38, overtime

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Maddie Dehart scored 14 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead Union/A-C Valley to a 40-38 overtime win over Youngsville in the Forest Area Tip-off Tournament.

Dehart scored eight points in the fourth quarter, including 4-of-4 from the free throw line, and scored six of Union/A-C Valley’s eight points in overtime.

Kya Wetzel also scored 14 points for Union/A-C Valley in the win.

Riley Robinault led Youngsville with 15 points, while Molly Helman had 10 and Zaylee Cressley eight.

CLEARFIELD 49, NORTH CLARION 37

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Freshman Sonny Diehl scored a game-high 16 points in her varsity debut, as Clearfield took down North Clarion, 49-37, in the opening round of the Brookville Tip-off Tournament.

Diehl came out of the gate strong scoring 10 first-half points to help the Lady Bison to a 30-17 halftime lead.

Mia Helsel added 12 points for Clearfield with Hannah Glunt adding 10.

                                   

Lily Homan had 13 points for North Clarion with Akeela Greenawalt adding nine and Brooke Steinman eight.

CRANBERRY 38, TITUSVILLE 28

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Elena Garland scored 10 points to lift Cranberry to a 38-28 win over Titusville in the opening round of the Roy Sanner Memorial To. at Rocky Grove.

Rylie McGarvie had nine points for Titusville.

CLARION 39, SMETHPORT 21

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Taylor Alston’s double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds lifted Clarion to a 39-21 win over Smethport in the Ridgway Tip-off Tournament.

Gia Babington added nine points for the Lady Cats, while Sophie Babington had eight rebounds and four points.

Elizabeth Hungiville had 15 points for Smethport.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 44, KARNS CITY 19

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Avary Powell had 19 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots to help Punxsutawney to a 44-19 win over Karns City in the Brockway Tip-off Tournament.

Danielle Griebel added 11 points, six steals, and four assists for the Lady Chucks.

Phoebe Brandon had 11 points for Karns City.

FOREST AREA 44, TIDIOUTE CHARTER 22

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Kaylie Rooke had a triple double as Forest Area topped Tidioute Charter, 44-22 in the Forest Area Tip-off Tournament at East Forest.

Rooke finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 blocks. Amber Guzzi had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

                                  

Marlee Nuttall led the Bulldogs with seven points.

REDBANK VALLEY 50, FRANKLIN 29

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Mylee Harmon and Addison Bond each scored 14 points as Redbank Valley rolled to a 50-29 win over Franklin in the Franklin Tip-off Tournament.

Izzy Bond added 11 points in the win.

Katie Boal led the Knights with eight points.

KANE 46, PORT ALLEGANY 40

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Hailey Hillman and Maya Smith combined to score 25 points to help visiting Kane to a 46-40 win over Port Allegany.

Hillman scored 13 points with Smith adding 12.

Ella Mosses had 11 points for Port Allegany with Brynn Evens adding nine points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots and Jenna Renner chipped in nine points, six rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Kayleigha Dowell also had nine boards for the Lady Gators.

OSWAYO VALLEY 51, BOLIVAR-RICHBURG (N.Y.) 13

RICHBURG, N.Y. – Charlotte Austin-Keech had 15 points, seven rebounds, and seven steals to lead visiting Oswayo Valley to a 51-13 win over Bolivar-Richburg (N.Y.).

Eva West added 14 points for the Green Wave who also got nine points, seven rebounds, five assists,m and four steals from Makenna Manning and eight points from Layken Enty.

RIDGWAY 56, KEYSTONE 27

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Behind 21 points from Jenna Kasmierski Ridgway rolled to a 56-27 win over Keystone in the Ridgway Tip-off Tournament.

Kristen Ellenberger added 11 points for the Lady Elkers who also got eight tallies from Gabby Amacher.

Ashlee Albright led Keystone with seven points.

BROCKWAY 38, DUBOIS 37

BROCKWAY, Pa. – An 18-point fourth quarter helped Brockway erase an 8-point deficit and come away with a 38-37 win over DuBois in the Brockway Tip-off Tournament.

The Rovers trailed 20-13 at the half, and 28-20 after the third quarter. Sophia Morrison scored six of her eight points in the final frame to help the Rovers complete the comeback.

Sophia Schmader led Brockway with 10 points, eight steals, eight rebounds, and four assists. Raegan Gelnette added nine points in the win.

Audrey Kennis led the Beavers with 13 points, with Lynx Lander and Avery Fontaine chipping in eight points each.

ERIE 48, WILMINGTON 37

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Aubrey Neavins had 15 points and 11 rebounds to help lead Erie to a 48-37 win over Wilmington in the Franklin Tip-off Tournament.

Erie went on a 15-2 run to help take control of the game.

Dreya Neavins had 12 points as well for the Royals.

Reese Bruckner had 14 points to pace Wilmington.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 54, OTTO-ELDRED 14

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Lucy Klawuhn led a trio of Elk County Catholic players in double digits with 17 points, as the Lady Crusaders beat visiting Otto-Eldred, 54-14.

Sydney Alexander and Emily Mourer each added 11 tallies in the win.

Rayel Hakes had six points for Otto-Eldred.

WARREN 62, UNION CITY 25

WARREN, Pa. – Sammie Ruhlman poured in 21 points to lead Warren to a 62-25 win over Union City in the Warren Tip-off Tournament.

Alyssa Farr added 11 points for the Dragons, while Alana Stuart had eight.

Cheyenne Cummings had six points for Union City.

NESHANNOCK 45, GENERAL MCLANE 39

STONEBORO, Pa. – Jaidon Nagy and Payton Newman scored 13 points each to lead Neshannock to a 45-39 win over General McLane in the Lakeview Tip-off Tournament.

Rian Owens was also in double figures for Neshannock with 11 points.

Libby Opp poured in a game-high 24 points for General McLane, including five 3-pointers.

Sam Dore added seven points for GM.

SAEGERTOWN 40, CORRY 35

ALBION, Pa. – Lindsey Greco and Abby Rockwell scored 12 points each to help Saegertown to a 40-35 win over Corry in the Lakeview Tip-off Tournament.

Lyndzee Amory added 11 points for Saegertown, which outscored Corry 12-9 in the fourth quarter.

Grace Allen and Lauren Thomas had seven points each for Corry.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 60, NORTH STAR 27

SIDMAN, Pa. – Led by 11 points from Emma Elensky, 13 different DuBois Central Catholic players scored in a 60-27 win over North Star in the Forest Hills Tip-off Tournament.

Kayley Risser added 10 points for the Lady Cardinals with Hope Jacob adding eight points and Ella Ellensky seven tallies.

LAKEVIEW 41, HICKORY 35

STONEBORO, Pa. – Emma Marstellar was 11-of-14 rom the free throw line and finished with 19 points as Lakeview beat Hickory, 41-35 in the Lakeview Tip-off Tournament.

Maddie Doyle had eight points for Lakeview, while Cordella Williams pulled down seven rebounds and had three steals.

Kimora Roberts led Hickory with 16 points.

NORTHWESTERN 62, REYNOLDS 8

ALBION, Pa. – Makayla Presser-Palmer scored 17 of her 23 points in the first half as Northwestern beat Reynolds, 62-8 in the Northwestern Tip-off Tournament.

Chloe Yazembiak made four triples and finished with 20 points as well for Northwestern.

OIL CITY 47, ROCKY GROVE 26

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Payton Liederbach scored 15 points as Oil City earned a 47-26 win over Rocky Grove in the Roy Sanner Tip-off Tournament.

Sophia Garmong had 14 points in the win for Oil City.

Rae Montgomery had seven points to lead Rocky Grove.

MERCYHURST PREP 62, SLIPPERY ROCK 23

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock opened the season with a 62-23 win over Slippery Rock in the Slippery Rock Tip-off Tournament.

Olivia Kulyk poured in 26 points for the Lakers in the win.

SACRED HEART (N.Y.) 59, MAPLEWOOD 39

WARREN, Pa. – Brooke Personius and Anna Ratchuk scored 20 points each to lead Sacred Heart (N.Y.) to a 59-39 win over Maplewood in the Warren Tip-off Tournament.

Madison O’Hara led Maplewood with 16 points, while Sheila Despenes added nine.

SENECA 48, MEADVILLE 3

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Amelia Hinds scored 11 points as Seneca beat Meadville, 48-3.

Eleven different Seneca players made their way into the scoring column in the win.

HARBOR CREEK 50, NORTH EAST 34

HARBORCREEK, Pa. – Brooke Przybylski led Harbor Creek with 17 points in a a 50-34 win over North East.

Elise Benim added eight points in the win for Harbor Creek.
