Dec. 1, 2023 D9/10 Boys’ Hoops Recaps: Hickory Gets Impressive Win; Sharon Rallies Past Meadville; Karns City Too Much for Sharpsville; Forest Area Breaks Long Skid

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Hickory outscored Lincoln (Ellwood City) 24-18 in the second half to rally for a 42-41 win.

Rylan Dye scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half for Hickory.

Ryan Robich was also in double figures for HIckory with 13 points.

Joseph Roth led Lincoln with 23 points, while Aaron Lake had 12.

SHARON 71, MEADVILLE 63

                                      

SHARON, Pa. – Sharon scored 30 points in the fourth quarter to rally for a 71-63 win over Meadville in the Sharon Tip-off Tournament.

Derek Douglas scored 11 of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter for Sharon, while Santino Piccirilli and Levi Hailstock scored 14 points each.

Lucas Luteran and Jack Burchard both had big games in the loss for Meadville, scoring 30 and 25 points, respectively.

FOREST AREA 44, VENANGO CATHOLIC 36

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Daniel Custer had 16 points to lead Forest Area to a 44-36 win over Venango Catholic in the Forest Area Tip-off Tournament at East Forest.

                          

The victory snapped a 64-game losing streak by the Fires who last tasted victory Feb. 3, 2020, 61-25, over Tidioute Charter.

Custer was the only Fire in double figures. Colton Kuntz had nine points, Keyon Custer added eight points, and Mitch Bowden had seven points.

Connor Beichner led VC with 12 points.

WARREN 65, UNION 48

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Braylon Barnes led a balanced Warren effort with 14 points in a 65-48 win over Union in the opening round of the Brookville Tip-off Tournament.

Logan Crissey had 12 points for the Dragons, while Tommy Nyquist added 11 points, while Konner Hoffman had 10 and Chase Sitler eight.

Trey Fleming paced Union with 15 points with Hayden Smith and Dawson Camper each scoring 12 points.

HARBOR CREEK 42, FAIRVIEW 39

FAIRVIEW, Pa. JT DelSandro scored 17 points as Harbor Creek outlasted Fairview, 42-39 in the Fairview Tip-Off Tournament.

Tucker Chwatek had 16 points for the Huskies, while Bryalen Wilson pulled down 12 boards and Hayden Dylewski collected 11 caroms.

KARNS CITY 78, SHARPSVILLE 62

FOXBURG, Pa. – Taite Beighley had 16 points, 14 assists, five steals, four rebounds, and a blocked shot to help lift Karns City to a 78-62 win over Sharpsville in the Hoops for Heroes Classic at A-C Valley.

Jacob Callihan scored a game-high 23 points for the Gremlins while also adding five rebounds, three blocked shots, and three steals, Luke Cramer had 19 points and five rebounds in his first game in two years after missing last season with an injury, and Shane Peters added 10 points and five rebounds.

Luke Distler had 16 points to pace Sharpsville with Carter DeJulia adding 13 points.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 76, GEIBEL CATHOLIC 31

INDIANA, Pa. – Punxsutawney got a balanced scoring effort in a 76-31 win over Geibel Catholic at the Indiana Tip-off Tournament.

Jimmie Neese led the Chucks with 13 points with Cooper Hallman adding 11 points and Noah Kengersky and Evan Presloid each scoring nine points.

NORTH CLARION 53, SHEFFIELD 52

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – A half a foot preserved the lead as North Clarion topped Sheffield, 53-52, at the Sheffield Tip-off Tournament.

Trailing by three with nine seconds left, Sheffield’s Leihden Wotorson got an open look at the basket. He drained the long-range jumper, but Wotorson’s foot was just on the line and the shot went for two points instead of the needed three.

Ethan Carll led a trio of North Clarion players in double figures with 15 points. Drake Irwin had 14 points and Logan Bish had 13 points.

Wotorson paced the Wolverines with 19 points. Dylan Hardwick had 16 points and Austin Fiscus added 11 points.

MERCER 79, LAUREL 40

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Four players scored in double figures as Mercer rolled to a 79-40 win over Laurel at the Laurel Tip-off Tournament.

                                  

Cole Cunningham led the Mustangs with 18 points. Daemyin Mattocks had 17 points, Bubba Palmer had 12 points, and Braden Balaski had 10 points.

Jayden Torlo led Laurel with 17 points, while Anthony Ziccardi added 10 points.

NORTH EAST 44, A-C VALLEY 29

FOXBURG, Pa. – Willie Shunk and Noah Crozier combined for 25 points to lead North East to a 44-29 win over A-C Valley in the Hoops for Heroes Classic at A-C Valley.

Shunk had 15 points and Crozier 10 to lead the Pickers. Cam Lican knocked down three 3-pointers to add nine points in the win.

Jay Clover had 11 points for A-C Valley while Zahsheen Levins had eight points.

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 60, REYNOLDS 23

STONEBORO, Pa. – Owen Riley led three Cambridge Springs players in double figures with 19 points as the Blue Devils beat Reynolds, 60-23 in the Lakeview Tip-off Tournament.

Tyler Troutman had 11 points for Cambridge Springs and Parker Schmidt 10.

Brayden McCloskey had 10 points for Reynolds.

TITUSVILLE 45, CRANBERRY 36

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Isaiah Colon had 21 points to lead Titusville to a 45-36 win over Cranberry in the Roy Sanner Tip-off Tournament at Rocky Grove.

Colon was the only Rocket in double figures, though Colin Wagner had nine points in the win.

Landon Baker had 15 points for the Berries.

DUBOIS 69, CLARION 66

KNOX, Pa.- Maddox Bennett drained five 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 21 points, as DuBois knocked off Clarion, 69-66, in the Keystone Tip-off Tournament.

Cam Thompson added 14 points for the Beavers who also got 12 points from Rudy Williams and 10 from Noah Farrell.

Devon Lauer led Clarion with 16 points with Bryce Brinkley scoring 14 points and Gabe Simko and Dawson Smail each adding eight points.

DuBois was without preseason All-D9 player Tyson Kennis, who has an ankle injury.

OIL CITY 61, KEYSTONE 25

KNOX, Pa. – Sayyid Donald scored a game-high 19 points to lift Oil City to a 61-25 win over host Keystone in the Keystone Tip-off Tournament.

Will McMahon added 11 points for the Oilers who also got nine tallies from Johnny Hargenrader.

Drew Keth paced Keystone with nine points with freshman Eli Nellis adding seven tallies.

BROOKVILLE 64, BROCKWAY 19

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Nine different players scored as Brookville rolled to a 64-19 win over Brockway in the Brookville Tip-off Tournament.

Jack Pete led the Raiders with 19 points. Jake Semeyn had 10 points and Kellen Haines had nine points.

Kolton Kahle led the Rovers with seven points.

CORRY 72, COCHRANTON 48

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Markus Lambert and Rylan Smith scored 20 points each as Corry beat Cochranton, 72-48.

Kamdyn Moon added 14 points for Corry.

Walker Carroll and Brady Rynd had 12 points each for Cochranton, while Dawson Carroll added 10.

ROCKY GROVE 62, MAPLEWOOD 32

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Noah Baughman score 19 of his 25 points in the first half to help Rocky Grove to a 62-32 win over Maplewood in the Roy Sanner Tip-off Tournament.

Aiden Focht had 16 points for the Orioles, while Landen Carter added 12.

Jacob Woge had 12 points for Maplewood.

KANE 57, SMETHPORT 46

KANE, Pa. – Connor Brown had 16 points and 15 rebounds to help Kan to a 57-46 win over visiting Smethport.

Dane Anderson had a game-high 19 points for the Wolves while Sam Lundeen scored 14 points.

Carson Dunn matched Anderson with 19 points for Smethport with Owen Rounsville adding 13 tallies.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 68, CLEARFIELD 54

DUBOIS, Pa. – Andrew Green had 28 points and 15 rebounds to lead DuBois Central Catholic past visiting Clearfield, 68-54.

Marek Hoyt added 15 points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals for the Cardinals, while Johnny Varischetti added eight points and Brayden Fox and Luke Fragle seven points each.

Braison Patrick led Clearfield with 22 points with Evett Maines adding eight and Parker Collins seven.

SLIPPERY ROCK 64, WEST MIDDLESEX 31

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Josh Book led three Slippery Rock players in double figures with 16 points in a 64-31 win over West Middlesex.

Levi Prementine and Anderson Franco score 16 points each for the Rockets.

Shawn Hoffman had 13 points for West Middlesex.

ERIE FIRST CHRISTIAN 62, UNION CITY 45

UNION CITY, Pa. – Aaron Collins poured in 32 points to lead defending D10 Class 2A champion Erie First Christian to a 62-45 win over Union City.

Simon Gonzalez also had 18 points for EFC.

Trent Parkhurst had 13 points for Union City.

GENERAL MCLANE 68, GREENVILLE 37

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Jacob Zietz scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half as Genera McLane beat Greenville, 68-37 in the West Middlesex Tip-off Tournament.

The Lancers led 45-20 at halftime.

Jackson Dailey and Greyson Rhoades had 14 points each for GM.

Noah Philson had 14 points for Greenville.

MARS 74, FRANKLIN 68

SHARON, Pa. – Ryan Ceh scored 24 points as Mars outlasted Franklin, 74-68 in an early-season showdown in the Sharon Tip-off Tournament.

Mars led by one at the end of the third quarter, 58-57.

Austin Campbell had 20 points for Mars, while Drew Navetta had 14 and Remi Black 13.

Jalen Wood scored 24 points for Franklin, while Damon Curry had 17 (13 in the second half) and Damarco Payne 11.

JOHNSONBURG 49, MONITEAU 44

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Isaiah Jackson exploded for 25 points to give Johnsonburg first-year head coach Cole Peterson a win in his debut, 49-44, over visiting Moniteau.

Noah Shaffer added eight points for the Rams.

Andrew Zepeda led a balanced effort for Moniteau with 10 points with David Dessicino adding eight points and Chason Delarosa-Rugg and Landon Kelly each chipping in seven points.

SAEGERTOWN 55, PORT ALLEGANY 36

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Cody Huson scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half as Saegertown earned a 55-36 win over Port Allegany in the Sheffield Tip-off Tournament.

Luke Young had 12 points for Saegertown, which led 31-22 at halftime, while Collin Jones and Sam Draa had eight points each.

Braylon Button led Port Allegany with eight points, while Nick Wilfong added six.

YOUNGSVILLE 52, TIDIOUTE CHARTER 30

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Rylan Benton scored 20 points and Nathan Lucks 16 to lead Youngsville to a 52-30 win over Tidioute Charter in the Forest Area Tip-off Tournament.

Cash Moore added eight points for Youngsville, which went on a 20-2 run in the second quarter to assume control.

Cody Paden led Tidioute Charter with 10 points.

RIVERSIDE 49, WILMINGTON 26

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Drake Fox scored 22 points to lead Riverside to a 49-26 win over Wilmington.

Landon Kline led Wilmington with 12 points.

ERIE 61, SENECA 24

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Layveon Gore led a balanced Erie effort with 14 points in a 61-24 win over Seneca in the Fairview Tip-off Tournament.

Adrien Tate added 10 points for the Royals in the win.

Lucas Rupp had 10 points for Seneca.

FORT LEBOEUF 52, IROQUOIS 45

UNION CITY, Pa. – Ronan Dorler scored 18 points as Fort LeBeouf topped Iroquois 52-45 in the Union City Tip-off Tournament.

Hunter Villa added 10 points in the win for the Bison.

LAKEVIEW 58, NORTHWESTERN 25

STONEBORO, Pa. – Maddox Bell led a balanced effort with 10 points as Lakeview beat Northwestern, 58-25 in the Northwestern Tip-off Tournament.

Owen Dye also had nine points for the Sailors.

Jack Miller had 11 points for Northwestern.

MERCYHURST PREP 63, NESHANNOCK 53

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – JJ Ganska scored 16 points to help Mercyhurst Prep to a 63-53 win over Neshannock in the Neshannock Tip-off Tournament.

Tanner Ashton had 15 points in the win for the Lakers.
