D10 4A Boys Quarterfinals: Hickory, Sharon, Warren, Grove City Advance

FARRELL, Pa. – With the game tied at 30 after three quarters, No. 5 Hickory outscored No. 4 Slippery Rock 12-5 in the fourth quarter to earn a 42-35 District 10 Class 4A quarterfinal win.

The Hornets (16-7) got contributions up and down the lineup in the final eight minutes, as Rylan Dye, Ryan Robich, Trevor Borowicz and Landon Bean all hit shots in the fourth quarter.

The win helped Hickory avenge two regular season losses to Slippery Rock, and also sent them to a semifinal date with top seed Sharon on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.

Dye led the Hornets with 13 points, while Borowicz had 11 and Bean eight. Borowicz had 12 rebounds to net a double-double, while also tallying two steals and three assists.

Bean added four rebounds, while Marco Miller had five rebounds and five assists and Ryan Robich for steals and three rebounds.

                                      

Josh Book paced Slippery Rock (14-9) with 17 points, while Max Kovacik added six and Levi Prementine five. Book scored nine of his points in the third quarter.

(1) SHARON 58, (8) GENERAL MCLANE 53

FARRELL, Pa. – No. 8 seed General McLane gave top seed Sharon all they could handle, but a 10-4 run to start the fourth quarter helped lift the Tigers to a 58-53 in the D10 Class 4A quarterfinals.

GM (11-12) raced out to an early 17-8 lead after the first quarter, but Sharon (20-3) rallied to get back within one, 25-24 at halftime.

The two teams traded the lead several times in the third quarter, with GM ultimately holding a 38-37 advantage going to the fourth.

                          

Tino Piccirilli scored seven of his team-high 15 points in the second half to help lead Sharon to the win, while Derek Douglas and Levi Hailstock tallied 11 points each.

Jacob Zietz led the Lancers with a game-high 17 points, while Logan Anderson added 10 and Greysen Rhodes eight.

(3) WARREN 72, (6) CORRY 52

MEADVILLE, Pa. – There was no drama in the D10 Class 4A quarterfinals this time around for the Warren Dragons.

The No. 3 Dragons needed triple overtime to beat Slippery Rock in the quarterfinal round a year ago, but on Thursday put three players in double figures in a 72-52 win over No. 6 Corry, their third win over the Beavers this season.

The Dragons (18-5) overcame a somewhat slow start offensively, leading 14-8 after the first quarter behind nine points from Konnor Hoffman.

The second quarter was a different story, as the Dragons went on a 21-10 run to take a 35-18 halftime lead.

Hoffman was the offensive catalyst for the Dragons, pouring in a team-high 22 points, while Brady Berdine scored 10 of his 18 points during the second quarter run.

Braylon Barnes, meanwhile, scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half, while Logan Crissey finished with eight points and Tommy Nyquist six.

Markus Lambert scored a game-high 23 points for Corry (13-10), while Landon Dean added seven.

                                   

With the win, Warren will meet No. 2 Grove City, a 58-48 winner over No. 7 Harbor Creek, on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.

(2) GROVE CITY 58, (7) HARBOR CREEK 48

MEADVILLE, Pa. – A 13-2 run to close the first half helped lift No. 2 Grove City to a seed over No. 7 seed Harbor Creek in the District 10 Class 4A quarterfinals.

Brett Loughry knocked down five 3-pointers for Grove City (14-9) and finished with 27 points, while Nathan Greer tallied 17 points (10 in the first half) for the defending D10 Class 4A champions.

Loughry was also a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter to help put the game away for the Eagles.

The 13-2 run allowed Harbor Creek to take a 35-27 lead after the game was tied at 17 after the first quarter.

JT DelSandro had a big game in the loss for Harbor Creek (10-13) pouring in a game-high 31 points.
