Clearfield, Fort LeBoeuf Earn Wins in First Round of PIAA 2A Team Championships Powered by Luton’s Plumbing, Heating & A/C

HERSHEY, Pa. – District 9 champion Clearfield got six wins via pin in a 42-27 win over WPIAL runner-up Burgettstown in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A wrestling  championships.

Dakota Shugarts (114), Cash Diehl (121), Ty Aveni (145), Brady Collins (152), Carter Freeland (172) and Hunter Ressler (189) all won by fall for the Bison.

Freeland , Ressler and Carter Chamberlain (win by forfeit at 189) closed the match for the Bison after trailing 27-24.

Burgettstown got pins from Joey Baronick (285) and Darius Simmons (107), a tech fall from Gaven Suica (139) and a major decision from Parker Sentipal (133), as well as a win by decision from Rudy Brown at 160.

                              

With the win, Clearfield advances to face District 3 champion Bishop McDevitt, a 41-25 first-round winner over Montoursville, in the quarterfinals on Friday at 12 p.m.

FORT LEBOEUF 25, WARRIOR RUN 23

HERSHEY, Pa. – A 9-1 major decision from Connor McChesney at 189 pounds helped Fort LeBoeuf earn a 25-23 win over Warrior Run in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A wrestling championships.

LeBoeuf led 21-20 after a 5-3 decision from Kyle Welka at 172, and McChesney’s win gave them a 25-20 advantage.

Warrior Run’s Connor Parker got a 7-2 decision at 215, but that wasn’t enough to put them over the top in the final bout of the match.

                          

LeBoeuf got decision victories from John Duran (2-0 at 285), Gage Bell (8-4 at 107), Brady Bowers (5-2 at 121), JoJo Przybycien (3-2 at 152) and Welka.

Nikolay Bardwell (114) won via pin for the Bison.

With the win, the Bison, the 2023 PIAA runner-up, move on to face District 5 champion Chestnut Ridge, a 39-22 winner in the first round over Berks Catholic, in the quarterfinals on Friday.

FAITH CHRISTIAN 54, REYNOLDS 9

HERSHEY, Pa. – Defending PIAA champion Faith Christian got five falls in a 54-9 win over Reynolds, the second time in as many years they knocked off the Raiders in the first round.

Louie Gill earned a 5-3 decision at 121 for Reynolds, while Logan Stewart received a forfeit victory at 127.

Reynolds will face Bald Eagle Area in a first round consolation match on Friday.

CLASS 3A

PENNRIDGE 48, CATHEDRAL PREP 13

HERSHEY, Pa. – District 1 runner-up Pennridge got five pins in a 48-13 win over D10 champ Cathedral Prep in the Class 3A first round.

                           

Anthony Granite (139), Talan Hogan (172), Riley Cullen (215), Chase Washington (285) and Colby Coffin (121) all won by fall for Pennridge.

Prep got a pin from Andrew Gammon at 133 in just 36 seconds.

Also for the Ramblers, Gabe Dorman won via a 9-1 major decision at 145 and Bo Martucci earned a 3-2 decision at 160.

Pennridge will face Wilson in the quarterfinals, while Prep will face Connellsville in the first round of consolations.
