Balanced Attack Lifts Clarion to Key KSAC Girls Win Over Moniteau; NTL Playoff Race Heats Up with O-E, OV Victories

CLARION, Pa. – In a contest between two teams battling for the fourth and final KSAC playoff spot, Clarion used a strong first half to beat visiting Moniteau, 52-47.

The teams came into the game tied in the loss column for the final KSAC playoff spot midway through conference play, and the Lady Cats (7-6 overall, 3-2 KSAC) got the upper hand by outscoring Moniteau (11-4, 3-3) 29-19 in the first half.

Marley Kline scored eight first-half points for Clarion while Taylor Alston added seven.

Kline led a balanced Lady Cat attack with 12 points with Alston adding 11, Gia Babington nine, and Natalie Durish eight.

                                      

That offset a game-high 21 points from Catherine Kelly for Moniteau. Kelly added seven rebounds and four assists.

Abbey Jewart chipped in 11 points for the Lady Warriors, and Cheyenne Curl contributed 10 points.

OSWAYO VALLEY 39, AUSTIN 21 AND OTTO-ELDRED 41, NORTHERN POTTER 27

In a topsy-turvey midsection of the NTL, Oswayo Valley and Otto-Eldred tightened up the race for the third and fourth spots in the new conference playoffs with wins over Austin (Oswayo Valley 39, Austin 21) and Northern Potter (Otto-Eldred 41, Northern Potter 27).

Oswayo Valley 39, Austin 21

                          

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – At home, Oswayo Valley got off to a quick start thanks to balanced scoring to knock off visiting Austin.

The Green Wave (10-5 overall, 6-4 NTL) led 8-2 at the end of the first quarter and then rode a seven-point second quarter from Charlotte Austin-Keech to a 17-9 halftime lead.

Austin-Keech led Oswayo Valley with 12 points and six steals while Makenna Manning added 11 points and eight rebounds. Brooke George climbed the latter for 12 rebounds in the win while also chipping in two points.

Kendyl Welsh led Austin (9-6, 6-4) with eight points while Isabella Rees had 10 rebounds, two steals, two assists, and two points.

Otto-Eldred 41, Northern Potter 27

ULYSSES, Pa. – On the road, Otto-Eldred used a balanced team effort to beat Northern Potter, 41-27.

Kate Rhinehart and Carrie Drummond each knocked down three 3-pointers to lead the Lady Terrors (8-6 overall, 6-4 NTL). Rhinehart added five rebounds and two steals with Drummond chipping in four rebounds and three steals.

Rayel Hakes and Ayla Van Scoter each added eight points in the victory with Van Scoter contributing nine rebounds and four steals and Hakes seven rebounds.

Kayden Brown had nine points for Northern Potter (8-6, 5-4) while Emma Haynes grabbed 11 rebounds to go with four points and Molly Caddy had eight rebounds and two points.

WILMINGTON 56, RIVERSIDE 42

                                   

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. – Lia Krarup scored 19 points as Wilmington picked up a 56-42 win over Riverside.

Wilmington (10-4) went on an 18-9 run in the second quarter to take a 29-20 halftime lead.

Reese Bruckner tallied eight points for the Greyhounds, while Alyssa Flick and Maya Jeckavitch netted seven each.

Gigi Finch had 17 points to pace Riverside, while DeLana Fox added 14.

BROCKWAY 36, JOHNSONBURG 20

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Raegan Gelnette had a nine points, nine blocks, and eight rebounds to lead Brockway to a 36-20 home AML win over Johnsonburg.

Sophia Morrison added 16 points for the Lady Rovers (5-9 overall, 1-4 AML) with Sophia Schmader chipping in five points.

Cadence Brechtel led Johnsonburg (3-9, 0-3) with Natalie Dunworth adding six points.

SHARON 64, JAMESTOWN 29

SHARON, Pa. – Tay Chester scored 20 points to lead four Sharon players in double figures in a 64-29 win over Jamestown.

Sharon (7-4), jumped out to a 24-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Lacey Root netted 16 points for the Tigers and Taylor Holden and Jamoria Crumby had 10 each.

Makayla Williams and Stacie Weimert had seven points each for Jamestown (4-6).

KEYSTONE 56, UNION/A-C VALLEY 46

FOXBURG, Pa. – Ashlee Albright had a team-high 21 points to lead visiting Keystone to a 56-46 KSAC victory over Union/A-C Valley at A-C Valley.

                                  

Emma Gruber added nine points for the Lady Panthers (6-9 overall, 3-4 KSAC).

Maddy Dehart had a game-high 22 points for Union/A-C Valley (2-11, 0-5) with Ava Strauser adding 11.

NORTH CLARION 59, CLARION-LIMESTONE 30

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Behind 31 points and six steals from Lily Homan North Clarion won its eighth straight game with a 59-30 KSAC home victory over Clarion-Limestone.

Akeela Freeman added 12 points for the She-Wolves (11-2 overall, 5-0 KSAC) with Ainsley Hartle chipping in eight points.

Also for North Clarion, Brooke Steinman had eight rebounds and four points and Kylar Freeman had seven rebounds and two points.

Erica Meals had 13 points and Hannah Beggs chipped in 10 for C-L (3-10, 1-5).

REDBANK VALLEY 56, FOREST AREA 26

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Addy Bond had 21 points to pace Redbank Valley to a 56-26 win over Forest Area at East Forest.

Mylee Harmon chipped in 18 points for the Lady Bulldogs (11-2 overall, 6-0 KSAC) with Kira Bonanno adding eight points.

Amber Guzzi matched Bond for game-high honors with 21 points for Forest Area (7-7, 1-4).

CAMERON COUNTY 58, GALETON 12

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Trinity Earle had a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double to help Cameron County beat visiting Galeton, 58-12, in NTL action.

Chloe Farren just missed a double-double for the Lady Raiders (3-10 overall, 3-6 NTL) with 10 points and nine rebounds while Navaeh Spaeth and Ellsie Bresslin each added nine points.

Like Farren, Bresslin also just missed a double-double finishing with 10 rebounds and five steals, and Ava Hilfiger had six points and six rebounds in the victory.

Lynlee Basile had 10 points for Galeton (0-14, 0-10).
