DES MOINES, Iowa – A pair of area track stars won AAU Junior Olympic titles in the high jump this week at the national championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

On Monday, Grove City resident Milena Scuillo won the 15- and 16-year-old girls’ national title by leaping 5 feet, 5 inches, and on Wednesday Union/A-C Valley’s won the 17- and 178-year-old boys’ national championship by leaping 6 feet, 10 3/4 inches.

Scuillo’s title was a shared one with Claire Hellbusch. Scuillo was at Spire Academy.

It was the second straight AAU title for Smith, who also finished tied for second at the Nike Outdoor Championships in June at the University of Oregon with a leap of 6-9. Smith, who will be a senior at Union High School competing for the A-C Valley/Union co-op program, is the two-time defending PIAA Class 1A champion in the event.
