Top Seeds Take Care of Business in District 10 Girls’ Quarterfinals; No. 6 Cochranton Upends No. 3 Lakeview in 2A

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Cochranton outscored Lakeview 13-7 in overtime as the sixth-seeded Cardinals upset the No. 3 Sailors, 58- in the District 10 Class 2A quarterfinals.

Macie Williams hit a pair of 3-pointers in overtime to pace Cochranton. The Cardinals also went 5-6 from the line in the extra frame.

Cochranton had a 45-42 lead with less than two seconds to play in regulation and Lakeview set to inbound. Madison Doyle caught the cross-court inbound pass and buried a three to send the game to overtime.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead to start the game and had a 14-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

                                      

A 13-0 run to end the second quarter pushed Lakeview to a 27-24 halftime lead. Cochranton returned the favor in the third, ending the quarter with an 8-0 run to regain the lead, 39-34, going into the fourth.

Doyle led a trio of Sailors in double figures with 16 points. Marstellar had 14 points and K Seddon added 13.

Shelby McBryar had a game-high 23 points, 10 coming from the charity stripe. Eve Pfeiffer had 11 points, while Williams and Marley Rodax each had nine points.

Cochranton will take on No. 2 Maplewood, a 40-38 winner over Eisenhower, in the semifinals on Wednesday at a site and time to be announced.

KENNEDY CATHOLIC 75, UNION CITY 38

                          

FARRELL, Pa. – Tori Harvey led four players in double figures with 23 points as Kennedy Catholic rolled to a 75-38 win over Union City in their District 10 Class 2A quarterfinal.

Harvey came out on fire with 12 points in the first quarter. The Golden Eagles’ offense exploded for 30 points in the first eight minutes, and the defense limited the Bears to just three points.

Bella Magestro and Layke Fields each added 16 points, and Monique Vincent knocked down four 3-pointers on her way to 14 points.

Ava Greer led Union City with 11 points, while Cathryn Reynolds and Brooke Vantassel each had eight points.

KC will face Mercer/West Middlesex in the semifinals on Wednesday at a site and time to be announced.

MAPLEWOOD 40, EISENHOWER 38

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Savannah O’Hara’s shot at the buzzer broke a 38-all tie and lifted No. 2 Maplewood to a 40-38 win over No. 7 Eisenhower.

The Region 3 champion Tigers trailed 26-21 in the third quarter but went on a 7-0 run to take a 28-26 lead going into the fourth.

Samantha Childs came up big for Eisenhower in the fourth quarter, scoring all six of her points, while Lainey Belcher also hit a shot and Clara Steinberg was 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.

O’Hara scored six of her 10 points in the fourth quarter for Maplewood, including the game-winner.

                                   

Maggie Means also had a pair of buckets in the fourth quarter for Maplewood and finished with a game-high 13 points, while Rhaelynn Koelle had nine points.

Steinberg had a game-high 18 points for Eisenhower, while Belcher and Laney Font added five each.

WEST MIDDLESEX 45, MERCER 32

FARRELL, Pa. – Caitlin Stephens scored 14 points and pulled down 20 rebounds as No. 4 West Middlesex beat No. 5 Mercer, 45-32 in the District 10 Class 2A quarterfinals.

Sloan Mild added 10 points in the win for the Big Reds.

CLASS 4A

WARREN 46, GENERAL MCLANE 16

ERIE, Pa. – Halle Kuzminski scored 17 points as No. 2 Warren turned in a dominant defensive effort to beat No. 7 General McLane, 46-16.

The Dragons limited the Lancers to just eight points in each half and held GM’s Libby Opp, who came in averaging 17 points per game, to just two points.

Warren took control early with a 13-2 run in the first quarter and never looked back.

Alyssa Farr tallied eight points for the Dragons, while Sammie Ruhlman, Alana Stuart, and Meea Irwin had six points each.

Ramey Plouse had five points to lead GM.

With the win, Warren moves on to play No. 3 Harbor Creek, a 55-33 winner over No. 6 Grove City, in the semifinals on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.

HARBOR CREEK 55, GROVE CITY 33

ERIE, Pa. – Brook Przybylski scored 22 points to lead No. 3 Harbor Creek to a 55-33 win over No. 6 Grove City.

                                  

Harbor Creek took control early, leading 15-6 after the first quarter and 28-14 at halftime.

Przybylski knocked down three 3-pointers in the first half.

Elise Benim and Georgia Weber were also in double figures for Harbor Creek with 13 and 10 points respectively. Benim also knocked down three 3-pointers.

Maddie Osborn had 11 points and Piper Como 10 for Grove City.

CONNEAUT 29, FRANKLIN 27

MEADVILLE, Pa. – No. 4 Conneaut trailed 21-20 entering the fourth quarter but rallied for a 29-27 win over No. 5 Franklin in the District 10 Class 4A quarterfinals.

Kaitlyn Crabb had four points, all in the fourth quarter for CASH, while Courtney Perrye and Morgan Poff also hit shots in the fourth quarter to help the Eagles rally for the win.

The win was the third this season for CASH over Franklin.

Poff finished with nine points and Perrye eight for Conneaut. Poff also had nine rebounds, while Crabb had six rebounds, two assists and two steals and Perrye six rebounds, five steals and two assists.

Jenn Blum had 11 points and Katie Boal nine for Franklin.

With the win, Conneaut moves on to play No. 1 Fairview, a 50-23 winner over No. 8 Corry, in the semifinals on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.

FAIRVIEW 50, CORRY 23

ERIE, Pa. – Bre Heidt scored 19 points as top seed and defending D10 Class 4A champion Fairview had no problems with No. 8 Corry, 50-23.

Fairview built a 26-11 halftime lead en route to the win.

Paige Garrity was also in double figures for Fairview with 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

Haley Mumau led Corry with seven points.

Fairview will meet No. 4 CASH in the semifinals on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.

CLASS 3A

WILMINGTON 52, GREENVILLE 37

FARRELL, Pa. – No. 2 Wilmington built a commanding 28-12 halftime lead on its way to a 52-37 win over Greenville in the District 10 Class 3A quarterfinals.

Greenville held Wilmington junior and 1,000-point scorer Lia Krarup in check, with Krarup tallying nine points, or about half of her season average.

Reese Bruckner led a balanced Wilmington scoring attack with 11 points, while Alyssa Flick added 10 and Sarah Dieter nine.

Lexi Busch paced Greenville with 14 points.

With the win, Wilmington advances to play No. 3 Northwestern, a 60-28 winner over No. 6 Sharpsville, in the semifinals on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.

NORTHWESTERN 60, SHARPSVILLE 28

ERIE, Pa. – Makayla Presser-Palmer had a huge game with 35 points and 15 rebounds as No. 3 Northwestern beat No. 6 Sharpsville, 60-28.

The win was a measure of revenge for the Wildcats, who fell to the Blue Devils in the quarterfinal round a year ago.

Chloe Yazembiak also had a big game for Northwestern, pouring in 22 points.

Northwestern limited Sharpsville to just 10 first half points in building a 30-10 advantage.

Lily Palko led Sharpsville with 11 points, while Macie Steiner had 10.
