Smethport Picks Up First Victory; O-E Wins Shootout; Ridgway, Cville also Get First Win; Port Allegany Cruises

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Jonah Ganoe rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns and Ryan Mason had over 200 yards of total offense as Smethport picked up its first win of the season, 33-26 over Coudersport.

The win also snapped a 10-game regular-season losing streak for the Hubbers.

The game was scoreless until the 6:23 mark of the second quarter when Ganoe capped an 85-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run.

“This feels great,” Mason, who was named Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Co-Player of the game along with Ganoe (who left the game due to injury in the second half). “That’s the team that Smethport really has right there and I’m glad we got to prove that tonight against Coudersport.”

There were a lot of fireworks after that, too, including freshman quarterback Jack Sherry connected with Mason on an 88-yard touchdown pass on 3rd-and-17 with 2:31 to go in the half.
Coudersport trailed 27-12 in the third quarter after Ganoe’s 26-yard touchdown run but rallied to get within one, 27-26 after a pair of touchdown passes from Gavyn Ayers – a 20-yarder to Owen Chang and a 9-yarder to Danny Vanvladricken.

That was as close as the Falcons (1-2) got, however, as Smethport converted a pair of fourth downs on its ensuing drives, including a 6-yard touchdown pass from Sherry to Boe Kirkman on fourth-and-goal to make it 33-26.

The end of both halves featured plenty of fireworks, as there were three touchdowns in the final 2:31 of the first half, beginning with the Mason to Sherry pass, which was followed by a 67-yard touchdown pass from John Wright to Vanvladricken on the very next play from scrimmage. Finally, after a long kickoff return from Mason, Ganoe scored from eight yards out to make it 20-6 Hubbers at halftime.

                          

There were also two scores in the first 1:30 of the second half.

Smethport fumbled the first play from scrimmage of the second half and Coudersport recovered at the 5-yard line, with John Wright punching it in from two yards out.

Another big return from Mason was followed by Ganoe’s third touchdown, a 26-yarder.
Ganoe finished with 103 yards on the ground before leaving the game due to injury. Mason, meanwhile, had 110 yards rushing and two receptions for 102 yards. Sherry was 6-of-9 for 141 yards and two touchdowns.

For Coudersport, Ayers was 7-of-18 for 108 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 45 yards. Vanvladricken had six receptions for 142 yards and two touchdowns, while had 41 yards rushing and a touchdown and also had three receptions for 27 yards in addition to his touchdown pass.

OTTO-ELDRED 57, BUCKTAIL 48

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – A basketball game broke out on the football field in Duke Center with Otto-Eldred outlasting visiting Bucktail, 57-48.

Shane Magee threw for five touchdowns and ran for a sixth for Otto-Eldred.

Magee was 17 of 21 passing for 307 yards and threw a pair of scoring passes to both Manning Splain and Shene Thomas. He added five carries for 28 yards.

Splain caught four passes for 88 yards while Thomas hauled in five catches for 110 yards.

Dawson Welch also caught a touchdown pass for the Terrors and had three grabs for 34 yards.

                        

Hunter App added a pair of rushing touchdowns and carried the ball 11 times for 82 yards helping Otto-Eldred to 469 yards of total offense.

App also returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown.

Tanner Pettingill ran for three touchdowns for Bucktail with Brody Pentz and Braylon Fantaski each accounting for two rushing scores.

Pentz ran for 218 yards on 18 carries and was also 2 of 5 passing for 44 yards.

Pettingill ran 15 times for 59 yards, and Fantaski added 15 carries for 63 yards.

Bucktail ran for 368 of its 412 yards.

RIDGWAY 26, KANE 14

KANE, Pa. – Ridgway scored three first-quarter touchdowns on its way to a 26-14 win at Kane.

Cameron Larkin accounted for all four of the Elkers’ scores throwing for a pair of touchdowns and running for two more scores.

He was 16 of 19 passing for 159 yards and ran 27 times for 97 yards with scoring runs of 1 yard and 3 yards..

         

Both of Larkin’s touchdown passes went to Brock Kudrick, including a 13-yard toss in the first quarter and a 2-yard pass in the second quarter.

Kudrick caught nine passes for 99 yards.

Eric Hoffman added 74 yards on six carries while catching three passes for 40 yards for the Elkers with Rocco Delhunty running 14 times for 67 yards and catching two passes for 13 yards.

Kyle Zook accounted for both of Kane’s touchdowns tossing a 43-yard scoring pass to Dan Anderson in the first quarter and also scoring on a 5-yard run in the third quarter, the game’s lone second-half touchdown.

Zook was 14 of 27 passing for 149 yards while also throwing an interception. He ran six times for 15 yards.

Anderson caught seven passes for 104 yards and the score, while Reese Bechakas ran 13 times for 59 yards.

PORT ALLEGANY 37, CAMERON COUNTY 0

EMPORIUM, Pa.- Nick Wilfong threw three touchdown passes, including two to Tristan Kiser, to lead Port Allegany to a 37-0 win at Cameron County.

Wilfong was 6 of 8 passing for 212 yards including touchdown passes of 51 and 46 yards to Kiser, who caught three passes for 122 yards.

Peyton Stiles added a 66-yard scoring reception and also scored on a 7-yard run while catching three passes for 96 yards and rushing 10 times for 82 yards.

Aiden Bliss also scored on the ground for the Gators going for 88 yards on nine totes.

Maddox Baughman was 7 of 13 passing for 55 yards for Cameron County with Malakai Zucal catching three passes for 32 yards.

CURWENSVILLE 55, SOUTHERN HUNTINGDON 13

THREE SPRINGS, Pa. – Tyler Dunn ran for three touchdowns and passed for two more to lead Curwensville to its first win of the season, 56-13, at Southern Huntingdon.

Dunn ran for scores of 1, 13, and 9 yards and threw touchdown passes of 45 yards to Hunter Tkacik and 75 yards to Connor Luzier.

Braden Holland also scored twice on the ground for the Golden Tide finding pay dirt on runs of 5 and 10 yards, and Sammy Gustafson got into the act with a late 4-yard scoring run.
